This man is a genius. Very softly spoken and extremely kind and down to earth.
Plus, the ladies in the 1930’s protected their skin from the sun. They wore hates, wore long dresses with long sleeves and carried parasols. Ladies thought it common to have burned or skin made darker by the sun. That is what Dr. Zen s was referring to when he said people protected their skin from the sun. Men even wore hats and long sleeves and stayed out of the sun during the hottest time of the day. After all, there was no air conditioning in the 1930’s.
Brands like the Ordinary did well not because of price point but because of transparency about ingredients, what they actually did and cost. Today, we are interested in scientific detail (more than Dr Lens might appreciate). We are over marketing hype and vaguely worded 'miracle ingredients'. We want to know science and ingredients lists and we'll spend if we can critically evaluate that it's worth it. Just look at your popularity and the amount of people deliriously happy to watch an hour long lecture from a dermatologist!
I could just listen to him talk all day, he has such a calm voice, plus it’s an extra bonus that he’s intelligent and educating
I think Caroline could have an amazing podcast!! I don't even really listen to podcasts but I so would Caroline's

I worked for a chemical company who had a very high regard for safety - what I really like about this discussion with Dr Marko Lens is his emphasis on safety - at the end of the day - our skin is precious - I like this mind-set - it makes me believe in his approach.
Maybe rich people in America have dermatologists but over half of the U.S. makes less than $30,000 a year and if your lucky enough to have health insurance, co-pays and out-of-pocket expenses make going to a specialist difficult. I pay one-third of my income to insurance premiums so am too poor to actually use the health insurance. Medical bankruptcy is the #1 cause of bankruptcy in the U.S. and the majority of those bankruptcies are people that had health insurance but the out-of-pocket costs were so high. That is something that doesn't exist in most developed countries. Prevention is key in the U.S. because getting sick for the majority of Americans will financially ruin them. My son was a preemie and with health insurance, our cost for his birth and 2 week stay in the NICU was $30,000. We sold everything including our house to pay for it and still had to declare bankruptcy. That was 18 years ago and costs have only gotten worse.

Shelby Hall sounds terrible. Healthcare shouldn't be a business. What's the point of health insurance if you're still faced with exorbitant expenses and even bankruptcy?

Truth. And in Canada, most people really only go to a derm when something is "wrong" - aka our family doc refers us to a clinic. It's unusual to have access to a dermatologist like this, which is why these videos are so valuable. Thanks Caroline!

The facts you state are true. But if you are working for a business of more than a few employees you can buy insurance. Also I have an FSA and I have that money available at the beginning of the year even though I haven’t contributed the entire amount. So my out of pocket comes out of my FSA. And I can see any kind of Dr. I choose. I make maybe 36,000 a year. And I’ve always had a Dermatologist.

My goodness this is awful I naively didn't realise that this regularly happened to people. We in the U.K. should be so grateful for our NHS
These interviews with Dr Lens are my favorites. I can listen to him for hours. Great questions Caroline.
These long videos make me a happy girl. Glad to see things getting back to normal.
I have been so excited for this video since you mentioned it on Instagram. I love Zelens, their Vitamin D drops turned my skin around after a long illness. Sunday night viewing sorted! Thank you Caroline!!
Little things make me happy. The girl is back. With THE man. 💐🎊❤️💋💜
So grateful for dr. Lens to share his knowledge with your viewers. I have loved his brand for a long time but love knowing his vision on the subjects discussed and his recommendations. I added a few more of his products to my wishlist 😂. He is a true professional! Thank you both so much!!
I've always overlooked Zelens products due to being expensive, and last time I bought an SPF I bought the Vichy one. However this has convinced me to buy the Zelens one... there's no such price for cancer avoidance/health. Thanks Caroline!
This was such a great informative video, I particularly appreciated the information in the second half re: clinicals, formulations and microbiomes/bacteria. There was a mask I was curious about and it's deffinitely made me want to do more research into it, I'm sure you'll know the one. I also love that he shed light on chemical spfs having a bad wrap by so many. God I wish I had this man's wealth of knowledge. Thanks so much for this! xx
Literally glued to the screen. You are both awesome.
Amazing content. Thanks both of you for putting it together. Could watch for 5 hours straight easily!!!
Great discussion ...thank you to Caroline and Dr Marco Lens....
Dr. Lens is absolutely right about the cosmetics market being confusing. This comment resonated with me very much. I sometimes go skin care shopping and end up walking around a department store, playing with some products, listening to some phenomenal claims from people who do not even have good skin and then I just walk away empty handed wanting to scream!!
I found your channel today after watching a few videos from Ian Marber [ I was looking for nutrition advice ]. This is the second video of yours I've watched. Just wanted to say THANK YOU so valuable
To the commenters, when they are talking about dermatologist in US, their comparison point is the UK. In the UK since they have the NHS, most people see a GP for their skin, not a specialist (since GP is free). To have a good derm in the UK (from my understanding) means going private. Since people in the UK are not usually paying for basic health care services, it is out of the ordinary to do so, and therefore less common. Since in the US we always pay for health care (either via insurance or co-pays), it isn't a huge mindset shift to pay to see a derm. I don't make that much money and I regularly see my derm (who is fabulous). When they say everyone, they do not literally mean every person, just that it is far more common for an American to see a derm than someone from the UK. I am from the US not the UK, so my understanding may be incorrect, and equally I certainly don't speak on behalf of Caroline and the doc. This is the understanding I have picked-up over a few years of watching her and others, and so please let me know if my assessment is incorrect!

Also, for those who say a derm in the US is for rich people, I have visits with my derm twice a year, she's not covered by my insurance, and it's about $100/visit. For the amazingly clear skin I have now, I will happily continue to pay that! For reference I am in MN, so where you are it may be even cheaper or more expensive.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! I really appreciated this piece, really eye opening, very educational and important for understanding what we need to to do for our health as well as our skin! I really like Zelens products and this just underlines why Dr. Lens is a very respected medical and skincare professional.
Perfect video for me. I'm a spf warrior and I love to get information I can use when I tell ppl. Come on spf!!!!!!!!!
I like the long format and more in depth discussions. I think different perspectives and debate are good. We are all on a learning journey. Thank you. Cutting through the crap is good too. Was just at a pool with my friend and her kids and she actually chastised me about taking Vit D tablets and avoiding the sun, wearing sunscreen everyday, etc. she did not put sunscreen on her children! Being childless myself, I have long learned not to argue with Mama Bears. Parents do not like parenting advice, especially from childless people. I told her I was fair and already had precancerous lesions removed and we likely have stronger UV because of holes in the ozone and other man made issues. She accepted this but still did not put sunscreen on her kids. This is a smart person. Her son went home with red shoulders.

Yikes. But it is a bit of a minefield out there and unfortunately you do have to do your own research and in the end you can start to feel like you don't know what to think sometimes. But red shoulders....can't be a good sign whatever your philosophy.
Love the interview! Very informative, as always. Thanks for doing it.
This was a fun watch, interesting to hear different perspectives!
This could have been 2 hour interview at the cinema and I would pay to go... now there's an idea 💡😜
What an amazing chat! Could listen for hours!!❤️
Thank you so much for this! What a great video - thoroughly enjoyed it! I just ordered the sunscreen, the video really resonated with me. Thank you!
🤦🏼♀️ OF COURSE, I watch this video mere hours after the 20% offer has ended!😭 Thank you, Caroline for an awesomely informative sit down with the lovely 😍 Dr. Zelens‼️💯
Another fascinating chat that I enjoyed listening to very much. I got the Zelens Power D in Caroline’s Cult Beauty box a while back and love it. I then bought the Zelens concealer on Caroline’s recommendation, and I like it a lot. I would like to buy more from the range but it’s very pricey. I’ll have to go back and look at the brand in review video Caroline did to work out which products are worth investing in. It is interesting that so many doctors have differing opinions. Another doctor brand I love is Osmosis.
So much knowledge, thank you. I found your channel searching for the heavenly May Lindstrom's videos.

Fantastic information. Thank you Caroline.
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing this in one go!
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Very informative!
Really enjoyed this Caroline learnt so much just need to try his brand😍
Thank you Caroline, this was super helpful and informative.
Thank you for talking sanely about chemical sunscreen. My skin can’t tolerate physical sunscreen so I appreciate it.
Knowledge galore, much appreciated, got some good take aways.
Thank you very interesting. I live in Florida so sunshine is our 365 days a year so sun screen is my most important skin care along with Retin A. Thank you both so much.
the interview was amazing! a very smart person answering expert questions in very informative way, which makes me want to buy most of zelens products, but they are so so so expensive! will anything be done ever to make poducts like zelens to be more affordable????
Thank you, this is very helpful, and i definitely need more. I can understand the frustration of Dr.Lens about his best formulas which havent (yet) become popular, e.g. anti-oxidant serum. If Dr Lens ever going to read this I would like to give a consumers perpective: as a consumer I do not understand what this means at all, a foreign language. It is not because consumers want simple messages, we want the language that we can understand. Skin care freaks and "promoted consumers" like you named it are ready to dive in and read/listen and learn more, - thus we are here watching. But even to this point and though I've been working in the cosmetic industry (mktg) I cannot explain what does "anti-oxidant" truly mean, what I should expect from using it, and I do not know where in my routine this product should be. Acids, sun protection, vit A and niacinamid, vit с - everything I can understand I am trying to follow and use. The rest is a complete black hole - I need an education to understand anti-oxidants and the urgency of using this kind of products. The claim anti-age is so vague that it looks like spf+retinol is already fighting the battle, why do I need another anti-age product? Why I need an anti-oxidant skin care when nutricianists swear that if I eat them I hit all the targets in and out?.. I respect science, am not buying mktg messages (professional deffect en plus), I learn to read inki lists, I like hi-tech products, but I still do not understand medical language. Pls educate us, we dont need simple messages, we want science in a common language. Thank you for this interview, Caroline and Marko, I am going to rewatch!
Your skin looks fabulous Caroline!
Please please please more of these long videos!
Not watched in full yet.but yay new video. But will make a brew and cast to tv tomorrow
Caroline....this was so good!
omg I love this man, take my money! take all of it!!! I'm going to buy that antioxidant serum asap.
Just wow, so informative, thank you, honestly I listen to CH, loving the z serum, my skin loves it. What I have learned is that your serum is expensive but you need so little each day so it lasts for ages, price wise it works out big time. Thanks 👍🏼
Love when you can find proper studies on products. It's sad to me people just don't understand how to differentiate between product claims and actual scientific research and facts. I think this is true in a lot of areas not just skin care but medical and healthcare in general.
I am one of the lucky few in the USA that works at a company that pays almost 100% of my insurance premium and my copays are low enough that going to see a dermatologist when I found a mole that grew. That is NOT the case with many in this country. Very few can afford insurance alone, so saying eveyrone in the US has a dermatologist is a serious and incorrect generaliztion. This is something that we see and believe of TV shows from the major cities (and even in LA and NYC not everyone has a dermatologist). This may have been meant as a joke, but it felt a little tone-deaf. As for the content of the conversation, it is very informative and continues to strengthen my belief and fan-girl status of the Queen of Skin. I am glad it was made clear from a dermatologist and one specializing in skin cancer has explained the difference between UVA and UVB rays and the importance of sunscreen. I also used to believe that chemical and mineral sunscreen was the same but after switching from mineral to chemical for the last 2 years, I have developed a sensitivity to chemical sunscreen (as diagnosed by both a dermatologist and contact dermatitis allergist; again I am one of the lucky few able to afford seeing both), so it is about preference but it is also very much dependent on your skin and what can sensitize you. I am thankful that I grew up in Puerto Rico as my mother was someone that made sure I had sunscreen on me at all times and reapply every hour. I learned the hard way when I moved out what happens when you are not diligent in protecting yourself from the harmful rays.
I love all the info and he makes it easy to understand.
the man's skin looks very good, which makes him all the more convincing. Pricey stuff though, Zelens.
Yay! I hope a full spectrum sunscreen without fatty alcohols is in the making! Fatty alcohols clog my pores and results in acne every time they are on sunscreen. To me ages to figure out that it wasn’t the sunscreen as such but the formulation. Love the Z-matrix cream so I hope it stays untouched 😊
Thank you for this, so informative and helpful!
I love Caroline so much! Been following her blog since I was like 15 😅 decided to be a beautician partly because of her.. now doing nursing but I’m still following her and super passionate about skincare because of her ❤️

Great video... so Informative... most enjoyable
Outstanding discussion💜question -are either chemical or physical SPF more effective specifically to prevent inflammatory pigmentation. Dr Lens love your products-would love another eye cream option from your brand!!
Love this video - I use Mineral/Physical SPF because it's better for my rosacea and I find I can take the sunscreens I use around/over my eyes without stinging, possibly because alcohol is further down the inci list of those I use.
What a modest Doctor he is! Personally speaking all I'm interested in is the science behind each beauty product as there is so much crap out there.
Loving the hair, Caroline! 😊
Extremely informative!
Awesomely detailed. Loved it all. Will have to rethink singular formulations but budget is a consideration. Thought indeed labs and GOW. So what multi ingredient formulations would you recommend. Am 51yo, uk based, need pro ageing, radiance, firming ranges. 💯✌
Excellent discussion - thanks very much!

This is everything for me. Skincare. Caroline. Lens and his knowledge. And last, but not least, Dr. Lens and his sexiness.
Hi Caroline, this was a great video! Dr Lens is phenomenal. You talked a lot about the regulations on sunscreen in the US and EU, my understanding is that here in Australia we have the strictest guidelines and most rigorous testing on sunscreen products wondering what Dr Lens thinks about the Aus standards are they much better? Also how rigorous should we be with using sunscreen up? Is trusting the package opening little symbol ok or should we be aiming for a shorter period given the oxidation? Asking as I usually have about 14 bottles on the go at any given time! Thanks so much
You are looking FANTASTIC. White looks so great on you.
Sooo informative, loved it! Thank you
I just came across this today. Living in southern Greece all my life, I can say that growing up, the spf 30 or 50 was a big necessity. Sadly I also have very very sensitive skin and zero tolerance to fragrance on face products, although I am not fair . I am light/ medium complexion BUT, in my experience, chemical filters, have caused discomfort on skin such as stinging, breakouts etc, However, mineral sunscreen is so hard to apply and although it does not annoy me, I avoid reapplying often . Luckily, Avene has some thinner mineral spf released lately, and I also make sure to wear a hat at the beach. Other than that, the conversation was really helpful on several areas so thank you both. What is more, I think it is interesting that I have discovered that I am vitamin D low, so I have to take supplements, partly because I have used high spf all my life. So, I believe that women particularly should consult a derm to make sure they benefit in all areas.

Have you tried any korean or japanese chemical (organic) filters? I’m also super sensitive to US and European chemical/organic sunscreen formulations and korean sunscreens like Purito centella unscented and Klairs watery UV essence have been amazing for me. Super gentle. No stinging, no breakouts or eczema, no redness at all.
This was fantastic Caroline!! Love Dr Lens 💗 This video made my day 😀 As a melanoma survivor, I love how passionate Dr Lens is about sun protection and spreading awareness. Would love to know Dr Lens’ thoughts on the new SPFs to protect against blue light, and if we truly need to be concerned about it

Lindsay K I don't know for sure, but I bet there's a higher number of derms per capita in Texas than, say, North Dakota. It's difficult to access a derm appointment where I live (Maryland), even though I work for a major health system. My insurance also forced us to use certain docs in network, which makes access to an already small, specialized group even more difficult.
CAN we use last years sunscreen? Love the video, have forwarded it to friends and family x
Super informative thanks Caroline
Just because the focus of this video was SPF's I thought I'd mention the Sunsmart app that is available in Australia which tells you what the UV index is and whether you need sunblock or not. For example it states that unless you are at the snow or work outdoors you don't need sunblock until the UV rating reaches 3. It also helps you work out if you are getting enough vit d from sunlight. It's really handy if you're wanting to head outdoors late in the day and you can check to see how high the UV rating is at any given time.
Hi Caroline! Thank you so much for another great video! It has really made me interested in adding a Vitamin D serum to my routine. The only issue is that while I would love to add the Zelens Vitamin D to my routine, it is unfortunately outside my skincare budget. Do you have any suggestions for a product that might have similar barrier repair function but at a more affordable price point?
Loving the subtle shade at 47:00 ...they had it coming.

Finding a dermatologist in Ontario, Canada is very difficult. I would love to be able to get my moles checked properly and thoroughly!
That was long overdue!
Being a researcher chemical engineer I totaly agree with dr. Lens, as far as the complexity of the formula is concerned. Nevetheless, almost no one can afford to buy a product like Zelens has to offer or any other similar company...This is why most of us buy the cheap more simple staff.
No come back and explain phototoxicity!! Caroline, can we get a blog on this please
New Jersey here and YES!! ALways have had a dermatologist..I LOVE ZELENS D!!!!
There's a lot of research ongoing in the pharma industry into microbiomes and how it can be used to treat immunoinflammatory diseases such as RA, OA, SLE, Psoriasis etc. Research is still early but very promising. This could potentially be a game changer. PS: I work in pharma.
Fantastic video, thank you! I’m so glad I can ignore the star rating. I used to get anxious because my favourite (broad spectrum factor 30) SPF didn’t have a high rating. Phew. Re. Thanks for a great video! Can the treatment drops be mixed together/used at the same time? Would assume not A & C but perhaps D with both of the others? x
Hey Caroline! Thanx for the brilliant informative video! As always :-) I've got a question regarding the Zelens Daily Defence - Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30. I have extreme issues with clogged pores and cystic acne and just wanted to make sure this isn't the case with this product. Am I wrong or could it be comedogenic when Ceteareth-20 and Cetearyl alcohol are within the same formulation? (I'm 40 and have dry/ combination skin). Highly appreciate your feedback. Thank you in advance & best wishes from Austria xoxo
I'm kinda proud... since I've been councious enough to know what sun does. (Parents did a bad job protecting me before that, especially considering I am red haired!) I've been avoiding it like the plage! 30 now and people never guess me older than 25! :D My skin has a "MAC 0-5ish" shade and people bug me because of it. But I rather be healthy than "sun-kissed"!

Maranwe come to my country and the girls will ooh and aah over how porcelain and fair your skin is. We absolutely hate that sun-kissed look and Asian skin is highly prone to sun spots and hyper pigmentation so it's good that we fear the sun as much as we do.
Could you, Caroline, explain more of what pro vitamin D does to the skin?
Love this!
As a melanoma survivor, the thought of those drops makes me so angry. I had a mole from birth that changed when I was in my 20’s and luckily I was able to get it taken care of immediately. This was in the mid 90’s and I was diagnosed stage three! If it had metastasized I would be dead now. Back then melanoma was a death sentence. I don’t know what the odds are now. What I do know is that any a-hole that tries to sell you those drops knows better and is not only ripping you off for money they could be robbing you of your life.

Can only agree, it's really shocking.
If people are using more sunscreen but the cancer rates are up, when does the dietary element come into the equation? If we are learning more about the negative influence of sugar and carbs in contributing to cancer in general, could this be part of the issue for skin cancer too? We discuss how what we eat affects our skin in other ways. This gives me reason to wonder about the cancer issue too
I work in genetic clinical trials and LOVE that you mention the importance of this for skincare safety and efficacy! I would really like to get into derm and do these types of trials, so very interesting!
1 hour n 16 mins.... ☺☺☺😍😍😍
I just think his line is so expensive. I don t want to have to pay £100ssss every time I run out of spf and creams etc also his amounts are quite small for the price and how can you use the correct amount of his spf on face and the body one when the amount you get is so small... you d be repurchasing each month. But a very informative video and I enjoyed it. Thank you
Fantastic!! X
Yet to watch... but straight off... you noth are looking Fab.... especially the Doc. .. 😉😉
I'm lucky - I use the Peter Thomas Roth 20% glycolic swabs weekly... I have very thick and oily skin, at 57 , I really have no tingle or dryness. Leave it on overnight, and my skin feels great, and glows ( not red).

Different types of skin genuinely are...um, different. Caroline has rather thick skin, in the literal sense, of course! I have never used any sort of glycolic acid but naturally have very thin skin through which the veins are readily visible. Flushing is a truly trying aspect of it!
I want to know Dr’s opinion on how to deal with combination acne-prone skin; I saw a few suggestions from different dermatologist and facialist, which includes using oil-free and silicone-free products, and possible using filtered water/distill water (I live in Southern California for reference). Thanks!!
