The nose is a very risky injection location. The injection should only be done by an injector who performs this regularly and understands the vascular anatomy around the nose. Rhinoplasty surgery is my area of specialty so I do perform these injections regularly. Even then, I take my time with the injection. It should be injected either superficially or deep on top of the bone but never in between. The injection also has to be done very slowly to avoid injecting into an artery or compressing a vein. I also make sure to observe my patients in the office for at least 15 minutes after the injection. A reversing agent also needs to be readily available.

Each hyaluronic acid filler has its own properties. Some products are stiffer and less flexible while others are rather soft and movable. The filler we prefer to use on the bridge of the nose should be a thicker more firmer filler.

Hi Hadi, any small injection into an artery can lead to necrosis. There can also be venous congestion from the filler compressing the vein that can lead to excessive mottling of the skin, bruising and swelling.

Yes, you can wear a cloth mask after injection. We prefer a soft material. I would not wear glasses over the nose or masks that have a clip over the nose.

A light surgical mask can be worn on a daily basis 2 weeks after the injection. However, an N95 mask or any mask that requires pinching to conform over the nose may cause the filler to migrate especially if the filler was injected to the bridge.

Hi H.Y., I have not seen the bridge appear wider with the use of Restylane fillers. However, Juvederm is one particular HA filler that can make the bridge appear wider over time due to it migrating and attracting water to the area. Having fillers does not affect the complexity of the case. However, the HA filler will have to be dissolved before proceeding with surgery.

Forever. The solution in the sac will reduce after 18 months so the illusion of the nose job will disappear. You can remove the old filler to replace it via ultrasound. There’s a plastic surgery doctor that talks about it on the “Victorian Cosmetic Institute” channel No need to go pharmacy Filler doesn’t need recovery time. I guess chill for the rest of the day? There’s no data at all linking filler to cancer. Don’t listen to random things people say without proof

Hi Maria, yes, the nose is a more risky area. Almost any area of the face can be at risk for skin necrosis or blindness if injected into a blood vessel. A cannula can be used but is not a fail proof way of avoiding all risks. There have been cases of blindness and skin necrosis described with use of cannulas.

Mariano, the procedure is not without risks. Yes, it can be dangerous to the eyes but this is extremely rare. The more common problems are bruising and swelling. To avoid the danger to the eye, I use a very slow injection technique and proper placement either on the bone or right under the skin.

The rare but scary complication that can occur is due to injection into a blood vessel that causing either the skin to die or for the filler to migrate towards the eye and result in blindness. These complications are extremely rare and can be avoided with slow injection and proper placement of the needle or cannula.
