Dr. John Kotter | Change | Talks at Google

Dr. John Kotter discusses his book "Change: How Organizations Achieve Hard-to-Imagine Results In Uncertain and Volatile Times". The stakes for organizations, and more broadly humankind, are large and growing. The events of the last year, from the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent economic crisis, to the social justice protests in the United States, to the climate change induced forest fires in Australia and California, are a reminder that the world is increasingly unpredictable. Our ability to effectively adapt our institutions and engage many hearts, minds, and arms to deal with rapid and complex change will have a profound impact on how we collectively address these challenges. The science and the stories of that science in action, shared in this book, will guide the reader in making decisions, mobilizing others, and executing change that will help individuals, teams, and organizations survive and thrive even in highly uncertain times.
John P. Kotter is a New York Times best-selling author, award winning business and management thought leader, business entrepreneur, inspirational speaker and Harvard Professor. His ideas, books, speeches, and company, Kotter International, have helped mobilize people around the world to better lead organizations, and their own lives. Kotter has authored 19 books -twelve of them bestsellers. His books have reached millions, and have been printed in over 150 foreign language editions. Other widely read books include A Sense of Urgency, The Heart of Change and Leading Change, which Time Magazine selected in 2011 as one of the 25 most influential business management books ever written. He continues to work tirelessly to achieve the goal of “millions leading, billions benefiting”.

I've been a learner from Kotter for decades now and he continues to see a future which too many miss out until too late. This dual system thinking is what will create the future of any organization who practices this thinking. In the areas of change Kotter is a lot like Drucker in management, who was too often dismissed as well.

If you are looking at designing a company that achieves stellar results amidst expected changes in the future this is the book for you! Dr. Kotter has introduced interesting approaches/tools like dual structure, human Survive-Thrive channel management, etc to improve upon the concepts enunciated in Leading Change (1996)
