What a remarkable man. O.k so we know now that it’s the washing of hands but how come this man isn’t famous . I swear his name , and a photo or portrait if available, should be in every obstetric facility , and in every country. Wouldn’t hurt to be in all hospitals and clinics. Knowing how pedantic ( and rightly so) all drs are now about washing his hands. He should be as famous as other names. What a wonderful man. Simple answer, they didn't understand how germs and contamination worked. Hell, they kept their tools in cloth cases, where the cloth wasn't washed
