I had major abdominal surgery at 33 for a bowel resegment, colon cancer was found, and removed. After a month of recovery I started 9mo's of Folfox chemotherapy. That was over 10yrs ago. I'm not saying that is what Kate has but I do sympathize. Important fact chemo is accumulative so each treatment is profoundly harder than the last, it's exhausting physically and mentally convincing yourself to go to another round of chemo after being told the cancer was removed. You do for the people you love. I'm glad Kate has 3 kids who love her and I hope she has a speedy recovery

This is ridiculous. The best thing she’s done so far is come out about it. We don’t have to know the details of her cancer. But just saying that she had it gives her the support she deserves from the public. She is the public face of their monarchy. There’s only so much privacy she can demand. She can keep the laparoscopy to herself but the basic diagnosis was the right thing to reveal.

As a cancer patient myself, for a layman the word preventative means they found some cancer cells and are giving chemo as an adjuvant. I knew what she meant.

I have a friend who had a hysterectomy. Cancer was found, but was localized. She had several rounds of chemo in case any cells had got in her bloodstream. That was around 2008 and she is fine today.

Yes. This. We don’t administer chemo without cancer being diagnosed and present. There is no such thing as preventive chemo. Chemo is usually a second or third line treatment along side surgery, radiation and immunotherapy. Preventive indicates a habit to prevent ever getting it. IE: using sunscreen daily to prevent skin cancer.

What it means is that they surgically removed a mass, cells, etc and upon biopsing whatever was removed, the results came back as having been cancerous. Although it was surgically removed, a round of chemo is given to the patient to make sure there isn't further growth of the same cancerous cells that were already surgically removed; that's why it is called preventive or adjuvent chemo. I hope that helps clarify what it means. Any doctor or person may confirm this information with an oncologist or cancer treatment center who are really the ones who are well versed on this topic. I am shocked that this Dr.Gupta is saying whatever he is saying & that the media continues to dissect this woman's private medical situation. I am shocked that many doctors are even publicly putting their 2 cents on this. In medicine is pretty much the same as any other field, a mechanical engineer is going to know little about what a chemical engineer knows. A cardiologist is going to know very little about what an urologist knows & vice versa. Once doctors go into their individual specialties, they are as clueless about those other fields as the rest of us. I have been in the medical field for 25 years now, so I feel very disappointed because all these medical experts should know better than to be discussing this woman's case. She needs to be given her privacy really.

She's a public figure and you give up your right to privacy quite a bit. The real problem is the more one keeps any condition like this private just like Secretary of the defense Austin it does not help in your healing process. And in her case that is the abdomen it is the power center of your whole being it is the center of Choice versus no choice and there's a lot of anger that goes with that when you feel no choice which could be covered up by a lot of fear. She really needs to get an open mind and I understand William has a bad temper and he's got so much baggage from his mother Emmett three-ring Circus the boys were brought up with their father who was so untoward in his behavior plus I read recently Princess Diana had so much stress in her own family paid her brother went off to a prep school and was like many of the boys sadistically abused, bloody buttocks and nobody stopped it and Diana tried to take care of her brother when he was home to a certain extent and of course always worried about him. So of course she was very young and a virgin and that's what the Prince Charles wanted even though he was a running around selling his Wild Oats and having this ongoing relationship with Camille I mean it's all very sick really and so guess what it's going to make her sick it goes on to the DNA and whatever happened between William and Harry and all that mess. Let's hope she finds someone who will listen to her grief and guilt because she has many grief lost issues just in this lifetime. And all that history with the monarchy, time for the monarchy to go. You don’t need to know anything more than Catherine’s clear explanation of her diagnosis, treatment and that she is having time off while she comforts her young children. If you’re after conspiracy theories try Roswell and Area 51 to keep yourself busy.

Her medical issues are private and not anyone else’s business. She was already basically forced to make a statement and did so graciously, now leave her alone.

She's using a term that is understood more by laypeople. She isn't speaking to doctors. It's none of our business what type of cancer, the staging, nor her treatment. I wish her well. Leave her alone. She has small children. The family deserves peace and time to heal IF that's possible.

Preventative chemo isn’t that hard to figure out. 🙄 she said the surgery was successful meaning they got the cancer. Most times when that happens they still get chemo to PREVENT a reoccurrence. That happened with my mom. She had a rare uterine cancer. They got it all but wanted her to get both chemo and radiation treatments.

No. First, its impossible to know if they got everything or not. Secondly, whether or not they give chemo depends on the staging of the cancer. It's extremely hard on the body and isn't just handed out to everyone who gets cancer.

I don't think she owes us any answers. I feel like it's none of my business. When and if she wants to talk about it she will.

I pray she will be well. I lost my best friend to cancer. She had it removed - They said they got it all - no chemo was needed. It came back about 6 months later. Was terrible losing her.

Actually Dr. Gupta preventative chemotherapy is a thing. In January 2023 I was diagnosed with stage 3a colon cancer after I had surgery to remove a large and suspicious polyp spotted during a colonoscopy. I underwent four months of chemo even though they felt sure that they had caught it all. I'm nearly a year into remission and my last colonoscopy and scan as well as ctDNA blood test show I'm doing just fine. I think she looks a little pale like I did, but I think she's going to be just fine. If you really care about her, you'll leave her alone.

For Stage 3a, since the cancer has spread to 1 to 3 lymph nodes or tissues nearby chemo is always given following surgery. I have a close family member survived cancer and the other one who is battling cancer, accurate information is crucial for the general public as 1 in 3 of Americans will have to fight cancer in their lifetimes.

@@nycsimon2024 in my case and the research study that I joined, one option was to do nothing and monitor through blood work. I opted for the lighter chemo, which still came with neuropathy. I'm just glad to be in remission and that it seems to be holding.

If the expert had any ethics he wouldn’t participate at all. He knows he doesn’t have the medical information to answer the questions he knows will be asked so he speculates instead. In countries other than the US having chemotherapy to stop I cancer returning is a medical protocol. How Catherine explained her treatment is correct. She explained it in plain language in a short video message as it wasn’t a medical lecture. The question is- would this doctor speculate and discuss a patient of his this way? Catherine is legally entitled to medical privacy the same as everyone else in the UK under UK law.

I was offered preventative chemotherapy.. "The use of certain drugs or other substances to help lower a person's risk of developing cancer or keep it from coming back." That was in the Mid- West in a Breast Cancer Women's Center. PLEASE!!!! the British Health care protocols are different, no one has the right to state that "Preventative Chemotherapy" is not a valid medical protocol. It just leaves doors open for speculation and misunderstanding.

I'm from the UK and I have heard several people say that they have had 'preventative chemotherapy'. It might not be a technical medical term in some countries or some circles but it appears that in the UK it means that you have treatment to reduce the risk of it coming back once its been removed from somewhere in your body.

Would he have speculated like this on one of his own patients? He said her medical team haven’t provided any information - of course they haven’t. They aren’t allowed too under UK law. Catherine was clear about the amount of information she released and the timeline. There is no point in a doctor speculating at all. It doesn’t help other people with cancer and it is simply leading to further speculation. Catherine is protected under UK law and entitled to the same level of medical privacy as everyone else in the UK. That doctor needs to stop.

All my prayers to you & yours, Princess Kate. I was diagnosed with appendix cancer, & the appendix removed 3 days before Christmas 2023. The appendix was perforated, that means that lovely little cancer cells got loose into my abdominal cavity. Although the appendix was stage 2 because of it's size, the lymph nodes & liver were clear of any signs of cancer. Therefore the doctor asked me if I wanted Chemo or no; he said the he could support either decision. (Recurrence is about 20%, & I'm 63.) I'm going through chemo now, just to do what I can to prevent recurrence. This way I know I've done all I can for my sake AND my family's. I understand using the term preventative even if that's not the "proper" medical term. My mind interpretated it that way, too. When you're hit with a crisis like cancer your mind simply can't pick up on everything your medical team says! I had my husband & 27 yr old son with me for that reason - but they don't remember it differently either. (On the upside, I've only got 5 more sessions with my portable chemo pump!🎉🎉🎉) Princess Kate made the best decision that she could, for herself, husband & family (including her royal family & England, who is also part of her family). Chemo is not easy. Given her timing & mine, she may be at the same stage that I'm at: increasingly fatigued, gastrointestinal discomforts, & trouble with mental attitude. Support her & her family, please everyone. Cancer & Chemo is no joke!!!

First, leave the woman alone. Cancer is horrendous to fight. People poking into her business adds stress she doesn’t need. Second, FFS, why is this news? Why are we so enthralled with a monarchy?

People would have left her alone if they had simply stayed quite when they said we wouldn’t hear from her until Easter. But out fake pictures is going to make people talk. I feel for Kate, I had the best experience you can hope for with chemo and it still kicked my ass. But she is a public figure living off of her subjects. This is the unfortunate trade off here

Exactly! What I got out of it was that the surgery was successful but afterwards they detected cancerous cells. Chemotherapy has been recommended to prevent the spread and eliminate the cancer at its point of origin.

Catherine was clear in her explanation. She gave a short video statement and explained what the chemo was for so it would be easily understood. That was all people needed. It wasn’t a medical lecture and Catherine didn’t need to reveal that under UK law regarding medical privacy.

People should be more empathetic to Kate & her family... Also, they have their right to privacy... After all, stress produces more Cancer cells!... So, please let this lady recover so that she can try to live her life & be here to raise her children ... My thoughts & prayers are with Kate, William, & their family❤😊

It is unethical for him to speculate without the medical information or consent and dismiss a medical protocol used in the UK and other countries. Would he speculate publicly about a patient without the medical information to answer the questions he can predict he’ll be asked and without the knowledge of the UK medical system? He shouldn’t have done it at all. His patients should be nervous.

Strange but true DR. Gupta it is a term we use in our Country....when cancer is determined after an operation. and the medical team feel they have removed everything, patients are still treated to make sure there will be cleared...hence preventative chemotherapy

Yeah, I thought the same thing. I've certainly heard and understand what preventative chemo means. The WHO uses the term and various well-respected scholarly journals have published medical articles that talk about preventative chemo. The speculation of Dr. Gupta is ridiculous here, and on top of that calling out something like her use of the term "preventative chemotherapy" to increase speculation is so disrespectful. Thanks for speaking up about this!

I also have had chemo and have heard the term preventative chemo. I am also an American, so just because this Doctor doesn't know about it does not mean it does not exist. And you do get tired and just don't want to have a lot of company or go out. I have been this way since the epidemic started and am just now starting to get my strength back. Not everyone is affected the same way.

It's not preventative it's adjuvant. Because you can't be sure you got all of the cancer with a procedure. You guys don't understand medical terminology. Dr. Gupta is right; the term is adjuvant chemotherapy. Chemo is not given in the complete absence of a cancer diagnosis. Adjuvant chemotherapy is done after surgery to remove a tumor to "mop up" any remaining cancer cells. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy is chemo used before surgery in cases where it can shrink a tumor so less aggressive surgery is needed.

I knew what she meant.The surgery was the essential first line of defence; chemo is the second line of defense. I so wish Catherine well! She must be left in peace while she heals. ❤️

I have heard the term preventative chemo before. I have family members after surgery to have found the part removed was cancerous. But all is out with the surgery. Preventative technically is a way to say now we need to be sure its gone and cant start again.

This is not preventive. It’s still treatment to stop any free floating cancer cells from metastasizing. Those are still cancer cells that exist and need to be treated. It’s not preventive.

I would think it would be radiation if they got all the cancer out in the surgery and wanted to prevent it from coming back. Doesn't really make sense she's having chemo.

We don't need the details. She has Cancer and that's enough in and of itself. Its now time for her to get the best care possible and heal. I know she's a public figure but at the end of the day she is Human, let her be.

Having had cancer and 20 months of chemo 15 Radiation it’s not our businesses , believe me I only told my family and a couple of best friends , it’s a tiring personal journey . Leave Princess Cathrine alone to be with her family and those she needs around her . Privacy is the key word here.

Linda, this is a medical correspondent who is being interviewed. He, and others, will have speculated about quite a few public figures - it's the nature of his job. Did you care when others were under scrutiny or is it just because it's Kate Windsor and you believe she should be given special treatment? I sincerely hope you never read articles or listen to or view news stories about Kate - because they are all intrusive and deny her the right to privacy. You don't get to take the moral high ground.

I disagree with most of you. She does owe the people of the UK some answers. She said she was going in for planned abdominal surgery - which is all people needed to know. But then things got strange. William left that service for King Constantine, she was never, ever seen. There was the picture debacle. William hates the press so much and is so intent on protecting the family’s privacy that I think he loses it sometimes. I think he should have made a statement saying something like we are dealing with Catherine’s health problems which were a little more serious than was originally thought. He didn’t need to even mention cancer. That was her decision to tell the public or not. But the public had to be told something. They really care for this woman and they were being stonewalled.

Catherine doesn’t owe anyone anything. She has a medical right to privacy under UK law. William pulled out of the memorial service when Catherine got her diagnosis and it is her news - her decision what is released about it. She was clear that it took some time for her to come to terms and then she wanted to protect the children so from the time she found out to the video message being broadcast it was 4 weeks. It was timed so the children were out of the spotlight. Your suggestion of saying Catherine’s medical issues were more serious but not providing any further detail would have resulted in sending the psychotic conspiracy theorists right off the deep end and creating a media frenzy worse than what was already happening - they were already producing AI generated pics of Catherine with a domestic violence theme. There would have been no peace at all and the children were vulnerable at school. As it was 3 people attempted to access her medical records and the word is on the promise of payment by an American media organisation. Catherine did what she had to do for the sake of her children and she’s revealed enough to be clear, have some time off and then return to work.

When the divorce negotiations are finalized, a lot of you sycophants are going to feel really dumb for believing in this royal soap opera.

May Princess Catherine be well, May Princess Catherine be peaceful, May Princess Catherine be surrounded by the love and support of her family and friends, May Princess Catherine find comfort and solace in her process of recovering. ❤❤❤

It IS given preventively. When some tissue is removed and the pathologist finds nothing or finds that cancer is removed " completely " they know the tiny cancer cells break loose with the disturbance of surgery so giving chemo makes double certain to keep it from spreading invisibly

Dr. Gupta is correct. That’s not preventive. It’s actually treating cancer after it’s diagnosed. The term preventive indicates preventing cancer before it starts. You are stating it already is there and chemo is used to treat free floating cancer cells. That’s not preventive. It’s the second line TREATMENT.

There’s no such thing as “pathologist finds nothing” and the person is still getting chemo. That’s misinformation. Do you think people with benign tumors are given chemo? The answer is NO!

It's like this. I think something was removed which was thought to be non- cancerous and when removed it was tested and cancerous or pre- cancerous cells were found. End of Story. She will tell us what we need to know when we need to know. Let her be and let her heal and leave her and her family in peace.

I so hope she has an easy, successful recovery. William lost one lady in his life at an early age. I hope his and Kate's kids won't have to go through that. God bless for a long life with the family.

I am someone who had cancer and with the help of my faith in Christ and the helo of a great medical team, I am an overcomer. There is no such thing as preventative chemotherapy. I said that to friends and they dismissed it. Thank God Dr. Gupta clarified it.

Exactly. Chemotherapy uses very strong medication with highly toxic side affects and would only be used to kill off cancer cells and further prevent the reoccurrence of same. 🙏🙏🙏💕

There are still alot of questions which need to be answered regarding Meghan's pregnancies. She had a hysterectomy before she met Harry. I'm not making this up....a quick search on goggle and you'll see. How come it's ok for Meghan to keep her medical history private but Princess Catherine can't keep her's private....stop with the double standards.

It’s private and nobody’s business, let them navigate without placing additional burdens! I was diagnosed with cancer, it helped me to not tell anyone. Privacy is also healing. She has better medical care than the rest of us, all the help she needs and then some, so she absolutely will get through this. But Kate and only Kate will be the one to determine how to cope.

The last thing she needs right now is for everyone to be talking about her health. Isn’t it bad enough that she was essentially forced to have to reveal her diagnosis after everyone got hysterical over a picture?!?! Prayers for her and her family.🙏♥️

I tried to warn people, years ago, that chemo is not a life solution to prevent nor to end cancer, but I know why chemo has been recommended.

I don't understand why this continues. It's her damn personal journey, and she deserves ALL of her privacy. I'm 4 years out with cancer and trust me the doctors are informing her of everything she needs to know they will keep nothing from her what she decides to share with the public is between her and her family and I don't blame her she needs to take care of her right now as well as herself! If you're not her primary care physician then you really don't need to get to know all this about her cancer it is her business let her do her and you do you okay! Media and Bloggers and The Public need to learn and respect boundaries. This woman is literally fighting for her life. Leave her and her family alone and stop “speculating.

I think that stress can play a role in cancer treatment. If everyone goes silent, HRH Princess Catherine will have way less stress. I have faith that the outcome for her will be positive, she will have the very best of care, but cancer cannot be predicted. Let’s stop speculating and prying and do some serious praying for her instead. 🙏🏽 She loves her family so much, and is an all people’s Princess.
