No 6 Dr Feelgood - Roxette It is difficult to know where to start with this one; it is just so completely and utterly fantastic. I am genuinely envious of anybody who was lucky enough to go to a Dr Feelgood concert when they were in their prime. This song sums up a dark strain of misogyny which I think is part and parcel of the teenage mind from about the age of 13 to around seventy-five, (although it does ease off in the mid thirties.) Songs like this are so valuable because they give vent to it, often in hopefully exaggerated form rather than the much more dangerous route of suppressing it. To be succinct, this is the kind of song you put on if you’ve just been finished with. Other examples are the Jam’s “The Bitterest Pill”, “Time is on my Side” by the Rolling Stones, “Is She Really Going out with Him” by Joe Jackson and, of course, Jilted John’s classic one with the Gordon is a moron line in it. The pace of the song is frenetic and electrifying as is reflected by the movements of the performers on stage, particularly Wilko, and whilst there is some nice camera work, the live act needs no trickery or modern techniques to enhance the raw emotion of the lyrics and music. The bass guitar is almost hypnotic, the energy of the drums rushes through your brain and Lee is no slouch on the harmonica and bristles menace with every lyric, but it was written by Wilko and his stage persona commands the whole performance with a demonic swagger unequalled in my view. If I was Roxette I’d get the fuck out of the country as soon as possible and live under an assumed identity somewhere in the American mid-west. “I’m gonna get some concrete mix and fill your back door up with bricks ...” Absolute madness. The nearest experience I ever got to this was a blues band called, I think “Wolfie Witcher” when I first visited my London based mates in 1985ish and we saw them in The Caernarfon Castle in Camden Town, happy days indeed. I have heard it said that Dr Feelgood were a precursor to punk, the John the Baptist to Punk’s Jesus if you like, and this is very much borne out by the nihilistic rage of energy in this performance and indeed in the whole Southend Concert which is available on KZread. Indeed it’s remarkable to not how cool the lads look despite the state of their suits and the width of their flares. Bravo, lads, truly an epic job and no mistake! Oh by the way, if you haven’t already done so you should watch Oil City Confidential which charts the glorious history of the band.

The Bollocks!
what the hell did that suit go through before getting on that stage. Its got boba fett class mystery to it.
Son buenísimos. Buenos de cojones. Y hay que tener mucho valor y actitud para salir a cantar con ese traje lleno de mierda y mantener intacta y pura la dignidad y arrogancia. Extraordinaria música de la clase obrera.
Lee B looks as though he,s just been changing the oil on his car!
they should get jim carey to play wilko in a film
THIS KICKS FUCKING ARSE
Live版でも 1:54 早稲田から遠い

I know 2 of them are now dead, what about the other 2 souls of a Great Band?
The music is nearly as dirty as Lee's suit.

Lee Brilleaux had the road crew shorten it, in an attempt to prevent Wilko walking in from of him on stage.
Brilliant!!!
