Rebman2005 I’m a freshman in high school currently living in Pennsylvania. My family might move to here next year because the college tuition is much cheaper. I’m both happy and upset because I’ll be moving away from everything I’ve ever know but happy because it would be a cool new adventure.

I went there last year after not being there for over 10 years. Used to vacation there with family a lot, and it was wonderful and relaxing. Only thing I hated about downtown were the 2 mills that produced a horrible smell that would sometimes make its way across downtown and parts of the island and almost make me throw up. Still, between places the shops, the civil war fort, and the overall scenery of the island, it's still an amazing place for me.

I always liked this downtown area, but it is a quiet and even boring place to live as is Stuart and Vero Beach. All very quaint, but boring. Nothing exciting really happening in these places in the evenings other than drinking establishments and some restaurants. Most of the small shops have items I would never buy and one can eliminate eighty percent of these shops as being irrelevant in a very short time.

Me and my mom just visited Amelia Island for the first time today. I don’t even know how to properly describe what I just witnessed. Everything about it was wrong. The drive in from 95 is unattractive, just all cookie cutter businesses. The outerskirts of Amelia Island are very dirty, crappy landscape, unfinished construction, bad roads, just an absolute eyesore. The downtown area is definitely quaint & original, but the streets are waayyy too narrow, as if the infrastructure was built to house midgets. You feel like the buildings are closing in on you trying to squeeze you. Both the breakfast places we tried to go to had 30-60 minute waits. One of those 2 I walked in and got the worst vibe I’ve ever felt, just an uninviting feeling of pressure. We then tried a 3rd breakfast place downtown that had no wait, and they didn’t even offer any selections with traditional eggs/bacon or omelettes. Just 6 obscure choices that you’d never typically order for breakfast. The waitress there at least was very friendly….We finally just went to Dunkin Donuts to eat. When we got out of the car there were dirty rags on both sides of the ground and a car broken down parked right in front. Even inside DD, the floors were all wet can’t even order your food without the fear of slipping. Even the Yulee newspaper in DD is all wrong. There’s an entire page dedicated to posting criminal’s faces who missed court dates. And most of them were just young kids who got in trouble for non-violent crimes like possession of marijuana. I’ve been to most of the states in the US and checked out many many cities. This place is like no other I’ve been. It’s like a bad episode of the Twilight Zone…….We just moved from South Florida to Daytona who the locals call “Dirtona”. Daytona Beach isn’t the prettiest place to look at but at least there are some very respectable parts, and has plenty of stuff to do. Compared to Amelia Island, Daytona Beach feels like Hawaii. And we also did St. Simons, GA on the same trip. St. Simons felt like heaven on earth compared to Amelia Island, we could not get out of their fast enough……I am floored that I didn’t see any other negative reviews anywhere on the internet, so I felt compelled to write one. Anyone who finds Amelia Island appealing I am dying to know where they could be possibly coming from??
