Downtown Detroit Michigan Sunny Afternoon Walking Tour | UHD 5K 60FPS
Today we Are taking a Walking Tour around Downtown Detroit Michigan. We will be sightseeing
from Downtown Detroit, The Riverwalk, and then head to Greek Town.
Downtown Detroit:
Downtown Detroit is the central business district and a residential area of the city of Detroit, Michigan, United States. Detroit is the major city in the larger Metro Detroit region. Downtown Detroit is bordered by M-10 (Lodge Freeway) to the west, Interstate 75 (I-75, Fisher Freeway) to the north, I-375 (Chrysler Freeway) to the east, and the Detroit River to the south. The city's main thoroughfare M-1 (Woodward Avenue) links Downtown to Midtown, New Center, and the North End.
Downtown contains much historic architecture and many of the prominent skyscrapers in Detroit, including the Renaissance Center, the Penobscot Building, One Detroit Center, and the Guardian Building. Historic churches, theatres, and commercial buildings anchor the various downtown districts. Downtown has a number of parks including those linked by a promenade along the International Riverfront. Its central square is Campus Martius Park.
In recent years the downtown area has seen tremendous growth and redevelopment. Since 2000 a number of major construction projects have been completed including the new Compuware Headquarters at Campus Martius Park and two new stadiums: Comerica Park and Ford Field. General Motors moved their headquarters into the Renaissance Center, and the Detroit Lions have relocated from Pontiac to Downtown Detroit. High-profile events like the 2005 MLB All-Star Game, Super Bowl XL, and the 2006 and 2012 World Series have taken place in downtown, generating income for local businesses and spurring more growth.[1] As a result, new residents are moving into Detroit in the assortment of new lofts that are opening. An example of these trends is the Westin Book-Cadillac Hotel. In 2006, the Cleveland-based Ferchill Group began the $180 million redevelopment of the historic Book Cadlliac Hotel at the corner of Washington Blvd. and Michigan Avenue. The project, which has been hailed by preservationists houses a 455-room Westin Hotel, 67 high-end condominiums, and two to three restaurants, and some miscellaneous retail serving hotel and conference center guests. DTE Energy Headquarters features an urban oasis of parks, walkways, and a reflecting pool.[2]

I think Detroit is an underrated city. It's not as dangerous as some people think and its downtown is beautiful.

Detroit has the best pre-war architecture in America today, and these buildings are incredible both inside and out - masterpiece designs by giants such as Albert Kahn. The tragedy is that so much of America got talked into destroying its architecture from this time, only to later slowly realize that what they got in return for it was bland & basic modern cost-saving cookie-cutter designs, and that these older buildings would be impossibly expensive to ever build again.

What a great walk! It would be nice to go to some of the other areas as well, Cass Park and corridor, Wayne State/Library area, and New Center is really beautiful. Also, I think walks in Indian Village, Boston Edison, And even Palmer Park Apartment district would be cool. Some of these areas might be a bit more gritty (and some not) but it would be great at some point to explore beyond the core downtown. Also, way on the far west side is Mexican town which seems interesting. In any case, the downtown area is looking quite amazing.

You can tell that it just hit the afternoon here ha ha the way the sun it isetting. . I wish 12:00pm was still morning . Just actually found out that Detroit has a stargate portal there and is one of the most spirtual cities . I can see why Detroit is the way it is !! I’m sooo happy though that Detroit is coming back as it is a hugeee city ! It honestly should’ve been atlanta Georgia because it is more bigger . Detroit had a lot of rich white men just collecting the money back when Motown was up and running and blacks were making it ...now look at the city getting moree beautiful. Thank god there’s a woman in charge .

For all you "Kumbaya" people....don't let this video give you a false image of Detroit. I grew up in Detroit. It always had it's "high and low" areas. It really was a "melting pot" racially and ethnically. Great American city with a great legacy. But notice the author stays within the Downtown area in daylight. That's where the BS is. That's where the Corporate $$$ is. There's a saying, "You can put lipstick on a pig...but it's still a pig". Years ago the City filed for bankruptcy and you would have to hate your kids if you sent them to Detroit Public Schools. (Which many decades ago was one of the best systems in the country) Go into ANY of the neighborhoods outside Downtown and it will look literally like a war-ravaged city. I don't even recognize my old neighborhood without feeling shock...and I lived in one of the nicer sections of the City. There is NO excuse for what Detroit has become....and I've heard all the excuses. Bottomline....it is a Black city that is inhabited & governed by Blacks. They take ultimate ownership of the disgrace that is known as "Detroit".

I think you're trying to make a point that is obvious. There is always a bigger picture in everything. I'm pointing out that Downtown Detroit is nothing but "bells and whistles". It does NOT prove progress or anything else about Detroit. If you read a lot of the comments....a lot of people are Kool Aid drinkers. Downtown is simply a part of the 'whole"...and the "whole" is a POS.
