It’s quite sad to me how Robert didn’t manage to truly appreciate what a treasure he had in Tom until after Sybil was gone. I wish Sybil could’ve seen Tom grow on her family. Sadly it seems that it was her death that made her family more willing to accept him.

Here's something to think about, Matthew helped Tom during his grieving when Lady Sybil died. Fast forward a year or two later when Matthew dies and Tom helped Lady Mary as she continued to grieve for Matthew's tragic death. Tom was also compassionate to Lady Edith with the situation between Michael Gregson and Marigold. He even gained the respect of the Dowager Countess.

Oh if Sybil had lived I have a thought of a way to include humor into it. Imagine this. Sybil gives the Nanny a break, and takes her outside for a walk and watches Matthew teach Tom Cricket. I can see her say something like, “And let Sybbie be deprived of watching her Daddy play a sport he’s never played before?” I see a lot of myself in Sybil, and that is something I would say to my husband in that situation

I see myself in all these characters. When I was younger I was a (pretty well-spoken) contrarian much like Tom. Any time I overstate my abilities I am reminded of Molesley and the importance of humility. My sense of duty and a desire to be perfectly put-together despite not coming from wealth remind me of Carson. And then Lord Grantham represents everything I wish I was, the ideals of a gentleman.

I'm American, and I have given this conundrum a great deal of thought. And as near as I can tell, there are a LOT of invisible little crickets on the ground. You can't hear them in the daytime because they're very quiet. But they are there under the field. Then you play this predecessor to American baseball. And you run around, and inadvertently stomp every one of these helpless crickets into the ground. 😂 I'm still working on the etymology of rugby. I haven't seen any rugs out doors, so I'm stuck, lol.
