    Its interesting that in Europe they are getting charging stations right whereas in the UK they are going with the cheapest - short term profit over long yerm gains - again. Its lovely to see how warmly you are welcomed by your friends over there. So glad that you have all that support!

    We just returned from a four week tour of Europe. France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland and back through France. Diesel Ford Nugget Plus but one thing that struck me is that wherever we went there were plenty of EV charging stations which always had some space! All very organised and civilised. Whenever I see charging stations in this country it’s often a mess with queues! Europe is inspiring, it can be done! Antwerp, the Kennedy tunnel and ring road is a breeze if you do it at 4am 😂 even timed the Elbe tunnel in Hamburg well and whizzed straight through. Not so lucky southbound, took an hour, hey ho! Really must look into visiting Caravan Salon next year. Excellent video as usual Mr. D. I will catch up with the others over the next few weeks!

    As a Belgian I enjoyed the timing of talking about smooth roads just *before* entering Belgium. When planning holidays I always try to exit Belgium as soon as possible to limit the damage on the caravan from the bad roads here... Have fun in Dusseldorf!

    I think that what pleased me the most about this video is that two organisations were considerate and kind enough to support you. I was also very pleased to see one country, Netherlands, getting the layout of charging stations right! Why other countries have opted to employ a pull-in charging configuration when we already have the tried and tested layout of petrol stations is beyond me. Well done Netherlands!

    Well done to DFDS and CAMC, have always travelled P&O from Dover to Calais due to ATOC discount, however, P&Ohave severely limited which crossings it can be used on now, which makes it useless to us, so will definitely tempted to try DFDS next year

    Really glad you’ve made it to Düsseldorf Was worried you mightn’t make it after your move and KZread concerns from earlier in the year. Your annual trip to Caravan Salon is probably my KZread highlight of each year these days. Really looking forward to what’s on show this year. Maybe one time I’ll risk my old T4 camper on a trip there :) Quite the journey from Mull that would be.

    As a camper rafher than a caravanner and an EV owner we are planning our first frip with the EV into Europe. The plan is to take the ferry to Santander and enjoy a relaxing few weeks working our way back towards the English Channel visiting interesting French towns (and friends along the way), wrestling with charging and enjoying the wonderful food and wine, along the way. I keep looking for content from folk who travel using ev's about the charging situation in France, Spain, etc. but it's in very short supply. Perhaps we'll make one of our own ...

    Enjoy. I was planning to be there next week as want to buy 1st ever caravan & have just bought BMW iX1 BEV with 'only' 1,200 kg towing limit. However, have to have an Op in Munich on Monday & not too sure how long hospital stay will be. So any videos on latest Eriba, or perhaps Adria Action/Light or anything suitable for 2 people, touring, in Alpine (heating) area, with decent washroom would be great. Light caravans for EVs seems to be really trending. I was towing 1,000 kg of tandem trailer & straw bales today with iX1 - simply a dream, it's all too easy to forget there's a trailer attached. Without even trying to drive efficiently, averaged just under 24 kWh/100km = €9.60/100km although in my case free as excess electricity from my PV. My ex Jeep Grand Cherokee 2.7 CRD Diesel would have had to return 5.5 litres/100km to match BMW. I seem to remember consumption figures towing of good 12 litres/100km, at current diesel price of €1.73 (in Bavaria), that's €20.76/100km, i.e. double EV BMW. Ionity dropped their - very high €0.79/kwh - price in Germany last week by €0.10/kWh for adhoc charging to €0.69. Their "Passport" monthly sub for €11.99 drops price to €0.49. However, Tesla remains cheapest generally.

    Nice to see you back in your spiritual "Heimat" Andrew! Good to hear you will be covering the new multi-coloured Eribas. We are still very pleased with our Knaus 400LK, which I think you covered in a previous Salon video. It would be great to see a focus on other lightweight vans too. Larger and heavier luxurious vans still seem very popular in the UK, but for us it makes a lot of sense to sacrifice interior space and fittings for fuel economy and ease of towing...

    Great video Andrew. Thank you. I love the driving experience of my EV but public charging has a long way to go. It's absolutely getting better but is still a long way off where it needs to be for the number of EVs on the road today. We towed 300 miles back from our holiday. I'm glad I didn't go full EV and still have our diesel for towing duties. Just today driving solo with the EV has been problematic public charging to reach our destination this evening. I'm not EV bashing, I think they are great. It's the public charging that is anxiety filled which is just too much for me.

    As a fellow Kia EV6 owner I was interested to see how quickly the car charged. Has your car had the Pre Conditioning update on the battery to pre heat it before charging? We have just had ours done and I am curious to see if it makes a noticeable difference.

  • @andrewjditton

    @andrewjditton

    10 ай бұрын

    Hi Andrew, it does have the preconditioning update but that's not necessary in the 20+ degree heat. Right now I'm having problems with the 12v system which was probably the cause of the previous fault on Gridserve. I'm hoping to make it back to the UK OK... I'll probably need a new 12v battery when home as it got down to just 6v and the car shut down completely. Thank goodness I have CAMC Red Pennant...

    How long will it be before there are charging points on ferries? Just imagine crawling into Dover on 30% and driving off in Calais at 100%. I know that you are a great fan of EVs but the technology is not there yet for my kids nd of motor home use. My health problems mean that I have between 4 & 6 hours of usable energy in a day that can only be used in the morning so I want to blast out the miles during those hours alternating the driving with my wife. Unfortunatly, my personal batteries would continue to discharge while the fehicles batteries were recharging and a trip to from the Midlands to Moffat would take two days.
