DOUG WEBB DANNY CAREY Live Jazz Music // Saxophone Jazz Music with Dan Carey Drum Solo
DRUM SOLO 12:20
In this video Danny Carey plays the drums live in jazz group The Doug Webb Group at Squashed Grapes in Ventura, California. I was 10 feet away from him when I recorded this. I was able to shake his hand, talk to him for a bit, and get his autograph! This guy is super nice and one of the best percussionists to ever live. Definitely a GOAT! Thanks for everything Danny!

@@seanturpin01 Tell me about it. My drum set never felt quite right to play until I 1. Figured out how to get the snare tuned and 2. Learned how to hit the snare. Getting it tuned to a workable sound (it was a lot tighter than I had been thinking) was a decent step, but learning to use rim shots was, I believe, the turning point when it started to just feel "right" to play.

Sir Wojenheim the third I’m a big fan of Tool but honestly I need to find new music and I think this is a great way to find new things. It was Danny’s name that made me click on the video but the music that kept me watching. It’s great to see musicians playing different genres and hopefully I find some new appreciation for genres I’ve dismissed or just don’t understand yet.

It's not the Style he has to feel out, it's the drum kit that he's unfamiliar with and completely different than his own kit/set-up

Harish Chivukula I know what you mean, lol. He’s so god-like. But actually very human. Keep in mind he plays different kits and different kit arrangements, often. He’s been playing with a floating hihat in center of his monstrous kit for TOOL for well over a decade. These jazz/funk/fusion sets are done on several kits. This is the first I’ve seen Danny use a Gretsch and first time I’ve seen him play with that rack Tom arrangenent. He never plays his Toms mounted to bass drum, ever.

as somebody who loves Danny Carey as a drummer more than almost anybody on the planet, I completely agree with your analysis of this. LOL they actually really were killing it, even if it's not most people style of music these days. it really is a shame that's all of the concentration was on Danny.
