Danny’s joy and energy make him appear like a young outsider awed, honored, and grateful for the opportunity to contribute his talent, into such, the accomplished Kansas Jayhawk pep band!

I could watch this every day for the rest of life and not get sick of it.

Man, this guy shows up for gigs at kid's recitals and everything, gotta love it.

I always love seeing a person in bliss performing their craft. His smile in the end reminded me of my late great drum teacher.

Met him once...on a bike...outside a Tool show. He was just riding around the arena meeting people. Awesome dude.

Watching Carey play this reminds me of how good those 60s British drummers were. Mitchell, Moon, Bonham, Baker all legends and deservidly so. And, sadly, all gone

This just popped on my recommendation and I wish it would've been a lot sooner! This is awesome! Danny is one of my favorite drummers, such talent !

What a happy and likable dude

This isn't the first time Danny Carey has performed a gig for kids. There's a video from way back where the bass players mom or dad was filming a group of, like high school age kids, and Danny Carey was the drummer. The camera was focused on the girl base player with Danny visible in the back ground with such a smile on his face. It's nice to see that joy in his situation ... doesn't need the money but loving the shear joy of it. I true national treasure...

I loved his reaction to being announced as "Rolling Stone's 26th greatest drummer of all time".

For him, it was a relaxing afternoon. For them, it was the play of their lives.

this is awesome. I went to KU from 97 to 2000 and was obsessed with tool at the time.

Drums are going to need a smoke after that lol. Really great to see people like Danny with true passion for what they do, big ass grin ear to ear because he truly loves to play the drums. Mad respect really hope to be able to see him in concert one day!

Yeah it's so easy to overlook Mitch but he is a legend as he was just so amazing at not just complementing Jimi but also propelling him up into and across the stratosphere as well and the Stone Free from RAH is a stellar example of the power Mitch had on the drums. I heard Eric Johnson say that he got to play with Mitch once and he told Mitch that he believed his drumming was as important as the guitar playing.

The drum patterns this guy came up with are legendary. The part in Aenima when Maynard is singing “Learn to swim.” It’s the memorable rolling pattern that makes the song so creepy and it builds up tension magically. Danny is truly one of my favorite drummers.

Totally. I have never really quite put my finger on what rhthym it is. My friend just said it's tripplets, but man i dunno, it sounds otherworldly.

Oh my god, don't even get me started on that song. Ever bit of it is so intense. It perfectly encapsulates the bitterness and disgust of the human race into 1 man. Yes, it's primarily about LA. But the idea behind it can be used as a metaphor for just being tired of the stupid bullshit our species has to offer. And every person in that band expressed the emotion perfectly.

I had a smile the whole way through. He never ceases to amaze

I love DC and all but I'm honestly more impressed that those woodwinds were able to produce sound while playing their instruments through a mask.

So many professional musicians are so fucking jaded and blasé about music and performing. That's why seeing a guy like Danny, one of the most respected drummers in the world, just having fun playing, no matter where or who he's playing with, is such a joy. Rock on!

I'd say you're describing big artists, most professional musicians are not like that, they are very open minded and down to earth.

@@bobparker2675 A lot of the gigging musicians I know are like that. Struggling with the bullshit and very low financial reward for years and years will do that to a lot of people. On the other hand, you also see a lot of pros just going through the motions on stage. If you compare them to when they were young, a lot of that energy is gone. Of course it doesn’t happen to everyone. But it’s also pretty rare to see such a seasoned guy like Danny happy as a kid whenever he’s behind a kit. I think it’s awesome.

Probably the easiest tune he's drummed in 30 years. Tool's stuff is so intricate, Danny is a legit badass!!

Tool isn't THAT intricate, but it's definitely not basic 4/4... But DC's drumming is top tier no matter what time signatures he's playing 👌🏻

The kids are like whats that guys name, Tool? Whats a Jimi Hendrix 🤣

Finally. Seeing Danny Carey playing zildjian cymbals on a drum set... Never thought I'd see the day or get to check that one off the list

I don't know how you can watch Danny and not be happy. He LOVES what he does and it shows. He's always laughing and smiling like a kid.

This guy is a really good drummer. He should be in a band.

Dude the band nerds where stoked !! they were rocking hard at the end brass n drums. It’s the one time Danny went out played his heart and not one single audience member gave a flying F who he was they just wanted the game to start and make good on those bets. He was one with his fellow nerds 😅

Love this guy. Such a legend

He makes it look like a Fisher Price drum kit.

Dudes just out there having a great time - watching hoops and trying his best to not tear someone else's kit to smithereens. Just look at that smile!

I would be honored to have Danny utterly annihilate my kit.

I saw another video of him playing with some other kids. I think that's great, as a teacher. He's giving these kids something powerful, inspiration. They will forever be able to say that they played with the drummer of TOOL! I love how he doesn't think too highly of himself to consider playing with children beneath him. I play guitar and teach elementary in a low-income community, much like where I grew up. I lead an after school guitar club. I basically live like the film School Of Rock with Jack Black. I love making music with these kids. I know that even if they don't become professional musicians, learning an instrument is beneficial to brain development. But boy will I be proud if one makes it in music. I'm proud either way. 👍🏽👍🏽

Best band. Best guy. Just look at him supporting everyone...EVERYWHERE! Those kids must be loving every second of this, especially that BASS player to the left. A marking lifetime achievement for him no doubt!

Much respect to this man for always working around any drum set given to him. Shows that he’s not overly prideful with his skills whatsoever, and he’s respectful to the people that set everything up for him. He knows that everyone knows he’s a good drummer, and he doesn’t always have to go all-out. It’s just about everyone having a fun time. Great guy!
