I think that’s part of the appeal. As much as the comments would suggest they are offended by this, but Doug dresses very casual, not fancy, not outlandish or anything and it allows you to concentrate more on the car. Realistically, what should he wear and would the review really be better if he wore a freshly pressed button down with slacks and Gucci belt as an example? I’m trying to think of any car reviewer who I would consider dressing up or being a fashion guy. Redline reviews, Joe Raiti, The Straight Pipes, Alex on Autos etc, they all are very casual.
I truly like Doug’s unassuming manner, the ill fitting sweat/T shirts, he comes across as the quintessential next door neighbor who is secretly famous.👍🏽

Doug's value is that he's remarkably consistent week after week, year after year. That consistency has become a standard from which we can draw an impression. With his broad driving experience, the depth of knowledge really helps deliver insight into a car from the audiences perspective. Doug's not quite at Savage Geese levels on driving insight but he helps us.

As a ratio of channel size to video production overhead, Doug's has to be one of the highest out there. Other than travel there's got to be very little overhead, so it's nearly all profit.
I drive a lot and I can't read printed media while I drive. I can listen to podcasts and videos while on the move so that's where I get 95% of my info. Keep up to good work guys!!
I like the discussion about shooting with an iPhone. Because Doug is right, and I I think it's something that everyone misses to at least some degree: there is a difference between adequate and best and almost nobody *needs* best. (Best camera, best battery range, best acceleration, best storage space, whatever) Especially in the product video space, that focus on bests kind of happens naturally as part of the review process. But when we focus solely on best, we lose sight of prioritization. Doug doesn't need a better camera and would waste money not to mention the time and effort to learn new tools, plus the additional overhead of running more professional equipment... There just wouldn't be any effective payoff for it. Idk I just get tired of internet arguments about what's best and I really appreciate it when “because this is plenty” is the answer
From watching Doug when he just did hilarious stuffs with cars to watching him interviewed by Marques! I really admire his growth.
29:42 Marques propably talking about Stradman 😂
