Great interviews with like minded folk there at the market and you just have to love the St. Bernard! We had one when I was in college---225 lbs of love on the paw. She was supposed to be a 'dry mouth', but I don't believe there is such a thing----it was a world of drool, lol, but her 'kisses' came with lots of loyalty and affection as well as a need for lots of paper towels.

Very personable people and a great project! Here in Austria there are small farm shops that are open around the clock. There you can insert the money and take the rest of the money yourself. I know this trust from my childhood, because during the lunch break when the shops were closed, the display shelves were outside and NO ONE stole anything. Even houses and cars were left open carelessly in my childhood, which is no longer imaginable today. Some farm shops have cameras, others don't. You get the products from different farmers in the region, you work together, which I find very gratifying and positive. Greetings from Austria

For me, the dependence on the handful of corporations for food is a serious problem and if something was to completely stop the supply of food we would be in trouble. We need more locally grown produce and livestock farmers, enough to support the community it's serving and to stop our dependence on the big food giants. Thank you for raising this issue and explaining it to us.

@@JC-uq5gi Well the path civilization is on atm is not sustainable. Its not about if we will go back to more traditional farming. But when. And its all about perspective. You think we have to devolve. I think we devolved into what we are today cause of capitalism (Rat race too the bottom) Capitalism is killing this planet, and i think we have seen peak age of capitalism. Goverments will have to come in and regulate much more. We are about to have alot of free labor for the first time in history due to AIs, that can do most of the manual easy labor. We will see a decline in workers neeeded. And why not use them by having more of the population go into farming again now that we are getting "free" population thats not needed in factories in the cities. Smaller farms are way more productive aswell. Farms under 5 hectar have 24% of worlds agricultural land area, but they produce 34% of the worlds food. The bigger you get, the more spoilage and other waste you get. The US could pretty much increase their agricultural output by 50% by having only small farms.

We had that once. Big Ag took over. They used donations of dollars to lobbyist to have laws changed for independent farmers, and put them out of business. Plus society were convinced that the need for independent farmers weren't needed. Just like independent neighborhood markets and butcher shops, fish markets. The Big Corporate Grocery stores had everything you needed in one place. I had a large garden with lots of vegetables and some fruit til 1989. But, society convinced me why bother when you can buy it in the grocery store

@@JC-uq5gi No i mearly mention the US cause they are by far the most industrial in AG there is. About 99% of meat in the US is industrial made. Oh and yes i can easy tell what the US needs. Rather easy with my outside objective eyes. I dont really care about us vs them. Like you do, with your 2 party system that makes hate and bias. I can easy tell that US needs to rethink its healthsector hard. Same with how its financing education (Cause education varies so much dependant on the neighborhoods you live in) can be as good as Norway on average like it is in New England. While education can be as bad as wartorn African countries in the midwest.. Oh and i can easy tell that US needs to get rid of the guns, cause it has about same same crime level as France. But the crime is about 10 times as deadly.. Thats alot of wasted lives.. And i can tell US needs to rethink justice system, cause it has 4.2% of the worlds population in the US. But have 25% of all the worlds prisoners. Those numbers tell me something is very wrong. And you can easy tell whats wrong when you compare the Norwegian justice system with the american one. We treat people like people. You treat them like animals. Our goal is to rehabilitate, so there is no more victims. US goal is to exploit that person for labor. The slavery never really went away, it just took on a new form. While where i live, Norway. About 36% of our meat is industrial farmed. We only have chicken all industrialized, and pigs are about 43% industrialized. Cattle/sheep are really not industrialized at all, think there is 1 farm in the whole nation. And we are currently going back on industrial farming.. Cause people dont want chickens raised in a big hall where they are fed and never see sunlight.. Its illegal for me to import beef from the USA, cause of growth hormones and antibiotics use (aka raw capitalism, these things makes the animal grow quicker. Thus used alot in the US) Im allowed to import beef from Nigera but not USA.. Then you understand how bad the food quality is.. When i look at Mcdonalds french fries, in the US they have 14 ingredients.. While here they have 3 ingredients.. Potatoe, oil and salt.. But if you want to keep living in the bubble, please do. But i would advice you to look outside abit.

@@COIcultist Democracy is kinda under threat yes, i can agree too that. But its not Bill Gates you should worry about. Its the subtle online "wars" going on between superpowers.. With propaganda, false info etc. A single rich guy becomes quite the nobody when you compare them to the might of the centralized goverments of USA, Russia, China etc. I mean China can whip up as much money as Jeff Bezos total fortune quite easy.. Just what the USA has in debt to China is 5x Jeff Bezos fortune. I do hope we get more direct democracies tho, thanks to internet. So we can get rid of all this oligarchy we have in society atm. Noone has never been truely a democracy yet, maybe except for the Swizz who has direct democracy. We are a mix between democracy and oligarchy. The noble family that ruled the lands i live on, kinda still "rules" them. They own the historical mansion/castle still, about 25% of the forests and land in the area. They run one of the biggest chains of lumber/building material we have in the country etc. Its still the same family from the 1500s.. Oh and boy do they wield political and financial power.

And walk into some of his stores and his produce looks like it belongs on a compost heap! Made me so angry and made me go out of my way to shop at my local farmer's markets even more. Walk past his seafood area and you have to hold your breath it stinks so bad! His "fresh" chicken is sometimes slimy! His greed is outrageous.

😜😜😜. I found it crazy that KZread recommended you when I’ve subbed for awhile. Sure enough they deleted you and others when I was ill for a longtime and wasn’t watching all the time. Well this was a perfect video of something we’ve lost in our area out west cus development and more freeways was better so they thought. Every Thursday for years I sold my pottery of dishware and some handmade and blown glass at the street market that had a huge history. Once a month on a Saturday it was only vendors and stores that were local. It was special all the different seasons. Handmade and home grown that brought people from everywhere and a special walk around the historic city and parks. Also a greeter on a corner almost 100 and his stories gave ya a history of all the shops and how it was and even a story about everyone coming to pave the muddy streets with brick that still remains. Also sold at a market almost like the one you’re at that became indoors when weather changed. All those places are gone cus of COVID and new strip malls and taking over small farms along the development road. And boy was resale a no no with a hefty fine and word got around real fast. Treasure your market days and yes we need to go back to our roots even if ya don’t have a lot of land. This video and how you delivered it needs to be an ad on TV or wherever showing what is important to save our forefathers roots and the land that’s left. The drought is killing us for years and they say it will pass but am not too certain anymore. This video was special on so many levels even it ya snuck more food like those great sprouts and ya just took a break always trusting your neighbors just to take us around showing us what’s so special of a great market that should be in all towns just to support your fellow man creating abundance for everyone. And sharing more stories of where and why they do what they do. Sorry so long but this video made me passionate and grateful for what you and others do and always with a friendly smile and an ear for their own stories. Time for me to go back and see what I’ve missed cus I so enjoy your frankness in telling and sharing your own stories and the keen way you share them with such a calming voice. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

I've been watching your channel for some time now. I enjoy every episode you present. I was raised on a small farm in Southern California back in the 60's and early 70's. My parents farm produced vegetables and fruit exclusively. We had no space for livestock. I am 72 years old presently. Prior to this last spring, for about 6 years, I tried my hand at raising goats and sheep, primarily for my own consumption. I live on a small two acre place in South Texas. I've lived, in my teen years with two uncles, both farmers at that time in rural Kentucky. I learned a lot about big farming operations from them. Reflecting back, I honestly have to admit, I miss the life of farming. I am too old now and struggle with ongoing health issues to be able to farm at any level. I do miss it so much. I deeply appreciate every aspect of your work you put to video. I share many of the same convictions and thoughts you often express on life, farm work, personal ideas. Thank you. One of the things that I've noticed about your programs is, I've not once heard you swear or cuss at any situation or frustration. This in itself shows me you and your family are people of integrity. Almost impossible to find in this day and age. Thank you! I look forward to every new video you share. Hang in there, don't get frustrated with the negatives in the KZread crowd. You're doing great! Great video Pete. Nice to see more of Hillary. I love the way you're farmers market works. Being in south Florida, we have the same philosophy with beef. There is a tremendous amount of beef raised here. Now it is sold here in a similar manner as what you have. Veggies, some. I am starting to grow our own veggies now. Can't wait to see how the fence comes out

It was nice to see Hillary in the camera more than the usual field walk moving pasture lines. That's not to say we don't want to see you, Pete!

Utmost respect for what both of you have ventured into together. I'm glad we had the opportunity to visit the market this weekend to purchase from your stand, say hello and pick up many other items from some great vendors. Our 1st trip to Ithaca was time well spent and enjoyed. We will definitely revisit the Market. Keep up the great work, keep the jokes coming and good luck on the Farm.

I love these market videos. So much that a group of us are petitioning our small city to allow us space in town to do something similar. We know we won’t make a living in our small area, but having that community that a market brings us what we all need now.
