Double Seal Rescue

Well-known German journalist and WWF ambassador Dirk Steffens joins the OCN rescue team on rescue patrol at Pelican Point. The tv crew is busy with a documentary on the loss of species and biodiversity, including ocean rubbish and plastic pollution. Finding the first victim does not take long: a seal is stuck in a gill net.
The complete segment will only air in a few months, but we are grateful to Dirk and his fantastic team for the opportunity to raise awareness for the growing global plastic crisis. 🦭

Looks like the little gill net pup knew exactly what to do when he stopped and posed for the “paparazzi” before he took his stroll down the sand carpet to the sea. He was doing his part to make people aware of his own personal plastic pollution suffering. Well done little guy, well done team!

Hello again Dirk and team. Thank you for working alongside OCN with these rescues. Hopefully your documentary will make people more aware of how they use and dispose of plastic. Bring more attention to just how fragile the natural world is and how our rubbish affects every living thing on this planet. Then rotate these people into community service maybe even explaining how this happens and what needs to happen to stop it. They are the ones who have control over the issue. Could it be that don't fully understand what pain and suffering it causes. Thank you again!

I know that getting other conservationists involved now and then helps with publicity and brings the attention of a wider audience to the problem, but it must be highly stressful for a pup to be surrounded by so many people, and for the rescue to be slowed down more than necessary.
