Double Leg Takedown for BJJ

Спорт

Brandon Willis from Carlson Gracie Columbus shows the double leg takedown. You can see the set up, shot and finish for a double leg. This is a response to a video from our dear friend Jamaal Howard in Nashville, TN. Please look at all content from him and us at carlsongraciecolumbus.com. Thank you!

It would be good if it was no gi,almost impossible to get past gi grips to do leg tackles, its why you never saw it much in judo even before the rule changes.

@@scarred10 thanks for the comment. Calling them “leg tackles” is cool...haha. Ever since I heard John Smith say that I liked it. It makes a lot of sense when you say it like that. Anyway, I have been able to do this consistently in BJJ even with the gi. Maybe we should do a video on how to do that? I’d say post the opponent’s hands before they can grip. Or you could pop the grip off then fire a shot (leg tackle...lol) right after before they can regrip.

I actually prefer the blast double leg where you don't touch the ground with your knees, because it's got more momentum and you can also use it on the street for self defense when you don't necessarily want to go to the ground with the guy. With the blast double leg the person that is taken down actually hits the ground a little harder, which is another plus for real life when somebody wants to attack you.

RennyRe yeah, but the problem is when that doesn’t work, going to the knee will. When you change level, if your opponent changes level with you then that becomes extremely unlikely. On the street, you would probably facilitate it from ducking a punch, but at higher levels (such as against other jitzers or wrestlers) then getting even lower by driving off the knee is absolutely essential. Learn both and let the opponents reactions dictate which one you’ll use.

RennyRe if you know hii jitsu why wouldn’t you want to go the ground with the guy

Tyoma Yu if you’re in shorts and fighting on concrete, then I can understand the desire to not go to the knee - of if your opponent is very large. However, if you’re gonna go for the double and your opponent changes level when you do, then you have no choice but to go to the knee or change your whole attack entirely

Your absolutely right, there’s nothing wrong with going on your knee, the only thing is when you get sprawled on, it can put your lower back out an another thing your exhorting a lot of energy. There are down factors to all shooting, pros an cons, the cons from doing a double blast is the momentum can be used against u, u have to disguise it , an make sure you lock them up then it’s a matter of passing there guard an doing what you can from close guard etc

Absolutely. I often tell new people these are just really high quality tackles. Enjoy the channel!
