Double Dragon Gaiden - Max Difficulty, Full Game 1CC (The Mayor & Marian / Ending B)

Double Dragon Gaiden is a brand new Double Dragon game from Secret Base. I'm not familiar with this developer, but the good news is they did a great job!
This game has a pretty unique structure for a beat 'em up: you can play the stages in any order, but every time you clear a stage, the difficulty and length of the next one increases. There's also a roguelike reward system in place - each time you clear a section, you can buy a random powerup with the money you earned throughout the stage. You can even tweak the difficulty before you begin playing, by adjusting your HP, the cost of the powerups and continues, and the enemy's stats and aggression level. They had some fresh ideas, and thankfully they executed them very well.
The combat is pretty fun with some tag team mechanics that encourage you to constantly swap between characters. They do this by limiting your use of special attacks and tags - both are tied to your special meter, but you can only start using them when your bar is full. Once you use a special, you can chain a couple more into your combo and tag out at any point, but once your attack ends, you're locked out of specials and tags until you completely refill your bar. So ideally you'll want to use a special or two, then tag in your reserve character. It flows really well and is quite fun to play with.
I wasn't sure if I'd like this game based on the preview videos, but I'm glad I bought it. It's really good, and I haven't played another beat 'em up like it. Give it a shot, I recommend it.
This run was done with all of the settings set to their highest difficulty. Honestly, Marian is so broken that it doesn't make that much difference. Her mine makes almost all of the bosses a non-issue, and most of the regular enemies aren't very threatening to any of the characters I've tried. The last boss fight just being a mess makes Marian (or any character who can safely loop them) practically too valuable to not pick for your team. The other character can be just about anyone you find fun. So this time I picked The Mayor - I only used him briefly before, but I thought he'd be a bit stronger than he ended up feeling in this run. His attacks do a decent amount of damage, but they drain a ton of meter, so getting the power up that reduces the cost of special attacks by 50% feels pretty essential. His psycho crusher seems like his best move as well, but it takes a moment to start up, and if you get hit out of it, it just feels like a big waste. But The Mayor isn't bad, I still like him. I just played Lady Okada a couple times before using him and I felt like she was better though.
I've had this video uploaded for a few days but I've just been too busy to finish the rest of the KZread work. I might just stop here with this game for now; I think the only other thing I'd like to try is this same run without Marian, but that just comes down to figuring out something for the last bosses tbh. Fun game though, I've enjoyed it.

The Mayor looks like a character from Fist if the North Star.
One thing I find interesting about this game is how the defeated enemies just stay there on screen instead of disappearing like in most games

You have the option to keep them or have them disappear, in the options
I like that they included the shadow boss from double dragon 2 nes.
Im so disappointed that it's not online co-op

You can game share with your friends and play online together that way. Start a chat together then let them play as you and you play as 2nd player or vice versa.

@@AlmtyhalfbreedAlso you can turn off crowd control pauses,and continue playing. It took me 20 hrs in to find that,and I’m happy they didn’t remove the reward voices.The pauses at release made it feel slow and you should give it another try. Everything we asked for is here,and now we have 16 characters instead of just 13. I’m not the multiplayer type though,so I’ll stick to solo or couch coop. It maybe crazy that all of this was added eight months in,but it’s all free DLC as well and that’s rare these days. I would like to see them support it further with new levels and color palettes,but even if they don’t do that I’m fine with what they gave us.

The Music in this game is right up there with Streets of Rage 4. If Only New York had this kind of protection in real life happenings right now without the good guys dying.

The game has some good music. I don't know though Sor4 is kind of the gold standard for beat em ups Glad we are getting so many games in this genre with good music.

@@antagonisstic it was 2267 murders in 1990 it is was 280 last year. that's lower than like the 1960s levels of murders. Baltimore a city like 10 times smaller has more murders than that. You must be a coward.

Marion makes the game fun
The loading screen makes me laugh cause it looks like they're walking to the restroom as fast as they can while holding in a payload. 😂
World's not in terrible shape considering there's at least 2 or 3 different nuclear world wars in Double Dragon's canon.
I like the game but it could've been better by having more stages, making the stages longer, and adding Sonny. As for online co-op it's not an issue if you play on PS using share play.

Sonny and online co-op is now a reality. Stages are longer only if you fight bosses later in the game.
Marian is Very Cute ^^
This is crazy every time I use Marian I get thrown out of my rhythm… hence I don’t use her. I’m trying a no upgrade run with the dragons and I’m almost there. Max difficulty is the way to go and I love it.

They going to add a Double Dragon Rise of dragons DLC and survival mode with three new characters in Double Dragon Rise of dragons you should check it out the game for me please
Would like to see if anyone can do this without Marian. Also a run without ever losing a character.

They are. You just have to choose levels in the correct order to face them. In this game the stages you ignore until later gets longer and more difficult, and you face more bosses. So if you choose the first stage last, it will be a lot longer and contain more bosses.
It looks really nice, but it doesn’t speaks Double Dragon to me

The game okay is good,better than I expected honestly. However I agree with you on the character designs. Hope they do a sequel with larger character models based on the first 2 arcade games

Like Neon? Neon’s character design looked horrible to me,and the question comes to what do you want?! DD4 was criticized for being too retro,and this is criticized for being too chibi,when “Shredders Revenge” shares the same artstyle. Maybe a little bigger in pixels,but still chibi. Also I love Shredder’s as well so don’t knock me off as a hater.
The Mayor was a major disappointment after I unlocked him. Awful moves and specials.
