Double Down the Dually gets new steering and suspension!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Double Down has been driving around on borrowed time with the front lift blocks and bent and mangled front leaf springs. I fixed all that this week with steering and suspension upgrades.
I also discuss the need for these builds. The need to get your hands dirty and create something. They may be a lot of hard work and pain but the end result is definitely worth it.

Some men build and some men destroy. Cudos to all those people that are creating something. Hopefully your creations serve as a reminder of who you were once we leave this world. My projects are my legacy for my kids (and hopefully soon grandkids).

Only reason why I clicked on the video is because it’s the ultra super Duper rare four-door square body Chevy truck. This elusive creature is one hard one to find. In 33 years, I’ve only seen one in my physical presence.

I know the feeling of rust. it's not fun! I live in northwest Ohio, and everything is rusty. I mean, everything is rusty, and I'm a mechanic and a farmer, and yeah, the fire wrench is a must-have tool! Love the Double down dually! I have my dad's 85 k30 dually that I want to get going on at some point and it needs backhalfed due to rust which it's going to get a flat bed so that will end up working out really well redoing the frame!!

99 out of 100x I cut ubolts. Right at the bottom, 1 cut with a cut off wheel... shocked to see the blocks in the front.

I have all the desire and cognitive ability to do the projects I yearn to do. My problem is my job and those available to me pay pauper's wages. I just don't have the medical field loot to throw at my projects. Very frustrating. Enjoying living vicariously through your channel.

Just finished lifting a 87 V20..... I got lucky! Every bolt and nut cane off. The steering arm dislodged with 6 blows withe persuader and the studs and conical washers were perfect.

I just replaced my ubolts and plates on my 84 k5 454 and center spring bolts, it was so far off I can barely turn right now. Instead of messing around with trying to adjust, I need to just do crossover

There is no better feeling of accomplishment than driving something that took perseverance and dedication. Keep bringing us awesome content like always! MERRICKS GARAGE 🤟🏻

they make thread chasers for doing what you described with the tap, tap is for cutting new threads, chaser is for cleaning up old threads, does it make a real world difference idk but if you want the right tool they do make one

When I did the cross over steering on my 91 V3500 crew cab one of the hassles was getting the washer preload spring stack on the steering arm side correct. I had to pull that arm off three times until I got the stack of washers correct. I also drilled out the steering box threads, and used studs on it instead. Now I have nuts and washers holding the steering box to the frame on both the outside of the box and inside of the frame. On the frame reinforcement plate even though I had nuts and bolts lining up the plate to weld it they where still a little off. I just took the correct size drill bit, and ran it through the steering box hole, in order to get a good alignment of the steering box mounting holes.

yea, the plate can be a pain no matter how tight the set bolts get. I usually end up hogging them out slightly and have drilled out several boxes. Why are you stacking on the kingpin? You replacing the spring? The only one I have ever had to stack was in the burb and I replaced the bushings with solids and no more issues.

@@MerricksGarage The king pin springs and bushings are new in my Dana-60, but the springs are not strong enough to handle larger than stock tires so I have to increase the spring rate slightly by stacking washers. I am going to install the bushing/spring eliminator kit someday.

What did you do with the sway bar? Did you manage to just hook it all back up or did you go with the one from ORD . I have no swaybar at the moment but thinking of going with the one from ORD that should bolt right up without clearance issues. Love how your truck sits now. Looks awesome.
