Nice mod! I wish they had an option for the 79-86 dash layout. They do have the drop-down units or the ones that come out and then up but the shifter is so close and the unit has to be installed sticking out some just to clear the dash face. Oh well...lol Keep up the good work and thanks for all your work uploading great content for us Fox fans!

That’s crazy, i had to do a lot more hooking up my pioneer to my 87 lx, had to get the power and speaker connectors and the amp bypass connector. Works great though

Car guys say one of the first things they learned was stereo stuff. I learned brake pads and rotors....and still never learned stereo wiring. Looks really straight forward...but I already paid the pros at the stereo shop to have all of this done in mine. However, the money I've saved on the rest of the work I've done myself on the car, could have easily paid for this. Still makes me a little chapped how easy it looks 🤬😂

Yeah, I haven't seen much there.

Those vehicle specific aftermarket connectors are definitely not as good in quality as they were 20+ years ago. I had to get a new connector kit when I installed the aftermarket radio in my 88 GT Vert. Everything worked fine sitting as soon as i was driving and hitting bumps the speakers would cut out. I found it was those connectors not making good contacts with the factory harness. I ended up taking the speaker plug out and running my own wires to the speakers. Since i also have aftermarket speakers I used a heavier gauge wire than the factory, I think it was 14 awg. I'll eventually be installing a 4 channel amplifier and will just relocate the wires from the radio to the amp.

It seems like all the aftermarket stuff has gotten worse in the last 20 years for sure. I' glad you figured it out though and sounds like you have a nice audio setup going on there.

@@GearHead704 Yeah It's definitely better than factory. I've got an Alpine single din bluetooth cd reciever, with the factory storage bin underneath, no holes in the console from an install kit. Kicker component set in the front, 6.5" woofers in the doors, 1" tweeters in the dash and Kicker 2 way 6.5" in the rear panels that you pointed out in the video. I'll eventually get a powered compact sub for the trunk as well as install my amp for the front and rear.

Hey Matt that double din looks pretty good Im thinking about picking up one of those bezels from 417 Fox and putting one in my car I have an older Pioneer in it as well and now that I've seen your video finding out that the pins were in the incorrect spot is good to know because mine sounds staticky and not so clean and crisp so I will definitely have to check the pins cuz I have the same harness as you do and I have Infinity speakers all the way around in my Dash doors and quarters and they should definitely sound good compared to what they do LOL... looking good man I love Tar Heel such a beautiful and super clean FoX its great that you can drive her all the time or whenever you want... good to hear your back is doing a bit better as well... Happy New Year to you and Tiff and the rest of the family & to the Fox resto crew !!!

Shifty! The bezel's 417FOX makes are great quality from what I can see. Yeah, I was surprised those after market pins were wrong. Sometimes doesn't seem like those After Market companies try all that hard. Hopefully thats your issue.

This was a fun video for me. Were you guys using Scotch Super 33+ electrical tape? I love car audio content. I have never hooked up a car stereo, but I have done speakers. Back in the day I had a competition car stereo, but I never entered any contests. LOL. Now a days being older and a "little" more mature I just want it to sound good inside the car. Like I said on a previous video of yours...JVC and Kenwood are the way to go as far as head units. This was awesome! Also I know it's hard to interpret audio quality from your car by watching youtube, but I have a suggestion for you as for as bass. You may want to look into getting the Cerwin Vega Vpas12st. This is a subwoofer with built in amp that actually fits under the carpet in your trunk inside the spare tire. I'm not sure how the spare tire is mounted in your trunk, but if it's under the carpet just turn the spare tire upside down. The Vpas 12st fits inside. It has it's own built in amp, and I'm sure Matt(FoxResto) can help you. It's a very low profile option, and it includes a bass knob so you can turn it down or up. Also JBL has a ST BassPro subwoofer. The ST stands for "spare tire." I have the Cerwin Vega in my Acura, and it sounds amazing.

417 did a great job with the install plates and a great service to the fox body community 👍. You will have to update us later if you like the unit you installed. They are the same, but they have been reupholstered at one point, so it's possible they weren't put back exactly the same, but I think it was more the camera angle in the video.

Long story short when i bought my foxbody it had a cheap lil radio that sounded like crap, i put a DD kenwood in i thought the previous owner had crossed all the wires now i know its not true it took me a week to figure it out

Yeah it's got a lot of cool features. it's the KW-M750BT

Amplifiers.... I have a 93 LX Hatchback. (Original Owner) Shortly after I bought it I had a Pioneer Radio and 6pack CD changer installed. BUT recently when I took out my Passenger Seat for a thorough seat cleaning and seat cover swap, (interior is still nearly mint even after 30 years) I discovered the Premium Sound Amp under there was disconnected. I never realized my Pioneer was not going through the Amp. (For almost 28 year I never knew it) Any idea WHY they did not use the amp? Extra info: Most people, at the time, had these CD changers mounted in the trunk. But being a hatchback I did not want that, and had it mounted behind the driver seat in the back seat footwell, with a box built over it. It was perfect. Could easily change the 6packs while driving. Eventually after 20-25 years the CD player died, and I could not replace it, so took it out.
