I was living in Las Vegas In the early 80's when they first introduced video poker machines. They had them in the bars and, of course, free drinks. It was love at first sight! I gave up the booze but never my video poker. Got seven royal flushes two trips ago in Vegas. Paid for my week-long stay. This really happened: A friend of mine was playing video poker and got dealt three jacks. Of course, we rooted for that fourth one. He didn't get it. So I said with a sad face, "Gee, buddy, you're just one jack off." That look on his face was priceless.

NJ, I’ve been a video poker player for 30+ years, love it! The tips are right, don’t hold Ace with an off suit face card, don’t hold the under pair for aces up. I’ll be there the weekend after Labor Day, for the first Sunday of NFL. It’ll be nice to have some action on the games, now that NJ has sports gambling.

Even though you pulled a full house the right move to make when you are dealt 2 pair with aces is to just hold the aces.

The one thing I will say, when you have 2 pair, and one of those are the A's, you always just keep the 2 A's, he got lucky with the full house, but technically that is the wrong play in double double bonus

TKBuffalo Gaming yes. Even a closer game situation of 10/7 double bonus where full house is 50 and you don’t have kicker bonuses you also cut the 2 pair for a pair of aces.

If you really want to learn, don't watch this guy again.

You were playing fine for regular Jack's or better. Double double is different

I played video poker yesterday $50 a hand and on my second draw was a royal flush in spades that doubles the payout and I won$65000 (there is a double down option and I was going to do I my wife said I'd be crazy) , then my wife went to a slot machine and on her first draw maxim bet $75 , she won $12000. So for $125 We left with $76000 as we messed around at the blackjack tables, great new years gift

@@ShhhSlots I'm not TopDollarMike, but the answer to your question is: Double Double Bonus pays even more for certain quads with certain kickers (i.e. quad aces w/2, 3, or 4 OR quad 2's, 3's, or 4's w/ace, 2, 3, or 4); Double Bonus just doubles the quads payouts vs. regular Bonus Poker.

Video Poker always was a great way to drink for free when I used to go to Las Vegas. So many good times, and good stories were heard while sitting at the bar playing VP. I've heard they've tightened up the free drink policy a bit at some of the major casinos in Vegas. Hopefully Atlantic City has not done the same. Low volatility means more free drinks with less chance of losing it all in the process.

@@NJslotguy Thanks for the reply! That's great to hear! A lot of people think playing slot machines get you the most drinks. While that can be true, you are generally waiting a lot longer on the floor than at the bar playing VP, mainly because the bartender is right there!

Nice change of pace. For your first VP session, you did all right. That said, VP is one of the few casino games that *can* be beaten by the savvy, dedicated, and knowledgeable player. I'll email you some tips to use if you play Double Double Bonus again. If you really want to go old-school AND have a good shot of winning at video poker, look for a regular Jacks or Better machine that pays 9x for a full house, 6x for a flush, 2x for two pair, and has no weird rules/gimmicks (other than a progressive jackpot on the royal). With proper strategic play, the long-term payback is 99.5% by itself, and adding in a progressive jackpot and/or cash/comp points can easily bring that percentage over 100%. Food for thought for the future...

But if I don't pass along what I know, then no one benefits. We all need to look out for each other. At least, that's the way I see it...

I know it worked out once. But When you're playing double bonus or whenever 2 pair pays the same as jacks or better, just take the jacks or better to give yourself better odds at a 3 of a kind or better

Jon: Great video, and to see who actually Top Dollar Mike is. I play Double Double Bonus myself. A suggestion I would like to share is regarding two pairs. If you get two pairs with ipone pair of face cards, and other is 10 or lower. Keep the face card pair, and drop the other. But do keep the two pair if they are not face cards. A Pair and Two Pair are both money back. Watch The Big Jackpot”s videos where he is with his friend Howard playing high stakes video poker. Howard is the high roller when it comes to video poker. Been to AC once, and hope to come again in the future. Hopefully you will make your way to Tampa in the near future.

I play VP too. I learned with the VP for Winners software from Bob Dancer. It teaches the mathematical way to play. I've done pretty well following the rules of his for the past 15 years. Note: I never hold anything with the Ace on DDB unless suited, but my husband will hold another face card with the Ace even if not suited....I win more than he does so I won't change my pattern LOL

You can't hit the royal flush hold mixed suits. Also, back side pairs (4 and 5th positions) usually dont pan out.
