Doro 7030 hands-on: I tested a flip phone designed for over-65s
Ғылым және технология
EDIT: Doro has confirmed that the 'Response by Doro service' will soon evolve into a paid subscription service with additional benefits to the normal relative offering. This does not include the emergency services getting in touch with you to check that you are OK.
This week, I tested the Doro 7030 - a flip phone designed for over 65s.
From an emergency assistance button to easy-to-read text, the smartphone has a number of impressive features designed to make it as intuitive to use as possible.

I am a millennial and ICT professional, but I carry a Doro flip phone with me most of the time. It's a marvel of ergonomics: tactile buttons to text and call, separate buttons for texts, torch etc., flipping to close calls, battery time of a week, never crashes, no privacy/security/update issues, super clear sound quality, MP3 player and radio AND extra loud ringtones for when working in the garden or loud environments... I just cannot go back to a smartphone where everything is so fiddly. In practice I make phone calls with the Doro, and the internet I access on a laptop. My smartphone is for when travelling or when I absolutely need an app for something (thinking of using a tablet for that use case instead). I also prefer a mirrorless camera for photos. Mind you, I have tested other 'dumb phones' too, but the Doro just shines. Too bad the back button cannot be remapped to voice notes, for instance.

I need a smartphone to connect with a CCTV camera outside my house; can you advise? I also would like to check emails whilst I'm in town, so is this the smartphone for me?
One little gripe, could do without the background music. A well presented video and easy to understand. I bought mine before I reached 65!

I don’t watch videos with background noise. Know your audience
Well, I'm 68, have good eyesight, and health so I won't think about buying one of those until I'm 80, but they are nice little phones for people who've been left behind with technical advances. I personally use a Galaxy A71, and next year, I'll get a Google Pixel 7.
Seriously, I'm young but I really want this, it's so cute because it takes me back to the times with the flipphones, which I miss so much! 😄
Thanks for a very interesting and informative video Shivali. You have a a very personable presence and come across as very friendly and approachable. Good job !
Thanks lots and hundreds, great review.
I'm thinking of getting my mother a simple phone for her birthday cuz the smartphone touchscreen she has now is giving her struggle. You don't look 65 and my mom's not 65 either, nor will she be on her next birthday, but she will be eventually. I like the look of this phone.
Thanks for your review💖💖...i was searchibg a phone with a big button for my dad and you helped me thanks a lot💖💖💖💖
When she started talking about alarms and adjusting the volume so you don't sleep through them, it reminded me of a built-in feature I have on my phone. In the alarm options, one of the tunes I can pick is "silence" and it's literally that. No sound at all. WTF IS THE POINT OF THAT!?!? I may as well not bother setting an alarm! LOL
Great video, thank you 🙏
Thank you for reviewing this Shivala. I'm in my 30s and just want a basic phone with some enhanced features (Whatsapp, GPS, internet browser for quick fact checking). I have a Nokia 2720 flip and it keeps powering itself off. I have bought a second hand Doro to give it a try. Also, your accent is perfectly fine (please never apologise again for it) and the music is only a tad distracting!

Forget Nokia.. And kaios o.s. This has his own o.s. and whatsapp could make video calls and audio messages that kaios doesn' t.. Also has wi-fi hotspot and theathering.

How are you finding it?
I really appreciate this, thank you, as creating a "how to" for my Dad. My only feedback is that I am experiencing the Video as too fast to take notes - and particularly for those who tend to be more elderly watching this.

Thank You
thank you very clear and helpfull .....tanks terryxxxx
This phone is not very good in some respects for some old people with short term memory problems . too many key presses to get where you want to be. for instance make a call. the first thing you get is call a number, how often do you call a number? mainly you call a contact so that should have been first and its the same with texting ,how often do you text a number ?. also when you go on view you would expect it to be on the most recent message but is not ,instead you have more choices. when a message is on screen it shows the bottom of the message and not the start of it so you have to go up, more key pressing, when you reach the end of the message you get to the text box but the cursor is not very clear and easy to miss if your vision is not great . There are too many key presses to do a simple thing , this makes it not suitable for the intended customer. they have made it more difficult than an ordinary smartphone.
Great Phone. Is there an option for larger fonts..
Very good overview. Do you have any idea how to synch the door 7030 with the Facebook portal device.
Hey shivala! Where did you buy it from? Have you found any issues with whatsapp or facebook on it??
Is the charging doc included in the box?
Can you uninstall the wassap and fb feature?
Hi Shivali! I’d like to buy one of your phones to gift it to my grandpa, but I need to be able to localize him whenever I need it. Is it possible with Doro Response by default or eventually my grandpa would need to press the SOS button? Thank you in advance!
Does its USB cable have MicroUSB or USB-C connector?
I like this phone! I think it will suit my grandad :)
This would be real good for work. Easy to use with gloves and it's probably loud enough so I can hear it through earplugs. Might give it a try.
How u the predictive text off thats what i wanted to know
Does this phone hang up when you push it down?
Does it have radio or mp3 for music? Thanks
What happens if it's in your pocket and the emergency button accidentally gets pressed.
nice video so i subscribed
A good informative well presented video but unfortunately let down by background music that's too loud and distracting otherwise would have given a thumbs up.
Is it possible to download Instagram on this phone?
🙂👍its a great phone the only thing I Will be missing is the game snake and tetris otherwise its a good phone.
Does WhatsApp allow calls? and also can you listen and record voice notes?
It's not just OAPs, I'm visually impaired and I struggle with touch screen too.
What Dora phone can view a message without having to scroll down
It would be helpful to not have music playing in the background. It’s distracting for someone with hearing loss.
Is it possible to install apk files of third party applications? Telegram?
Does it support VoLTE?
How do I put it on silent
why the music in the background
Mums asking me what the button on back of the phone is for?
How to activate my sky sim
pretty cool, i'll be the target demographic in like 41 years but thats not gonna stop me lmao. there's location sharing apps for smartphones but for dumb phones it's kind of impossible to install apps so i read that this has the ability built-in to send sos messages and location sharing so it's literally perfect.
I can't find the words to express how annoying the music is. If you must have a band playing, why does it have to be as loud as the speaker?
Convince me this phone is 149 € which is 154 $ and I will buy two
FFS not all people over 65 need to be spoken to as if they were 95!!!!!
Does Doro phones support Arabic language?
Or it is made for those who don't want to follow fashion, society like nice little sheep. It's good to have a different opinion from the masses when you see how the world is changing. It's called personality and character.

How is this phone designed for people over 65? This phone is far more complex to use than a smart phone. I mean I can operate it easily, but smartphone is meant for 1 year olds in that case seemingly. This is that dumb marketing style I hate.
I own this one. Its interface looks positively absolutely HORRIBLE. I wish 2G would be continued, so that I could use my previous Doro.

You can definitely receive them, but I have been able to talk my mum into how to video Me yet. This video was unhelpful.
Doro phones with this software are awful for old people. very fiddly to use . the original was ok. cons: when select " send " the first thing it asks is send a message or whatsap etc ,selecting message you get first of all " a number " , then " a contact " how often does anyone text a number ? so then you have to scroll down to get to contacts. its too long winded , lots of button pressing. and its the same with call , who calls a number ? you usually call a contact ,so that should have been first. viewing txts is poor it always shows the bottom of he message first the top third of the screen is taken up by the persons name which reduces how much txt is on the screen which is ridiculous its got a decent size screen but its wasted , if you accidently scroll down when you scroll back up you only get one line of the message. The whole phone is badly engineered. Its hopeless for anyone with an kind of memory problem. there are just too many menus and keypresses to remember. I got the 7080 for my wife its the same software except it cost £120 which was a total waste of money.
Lost interest cos of that stupid music in the background!

@@shivalibest5252 Why not eliminate the music? This is an instructional video.
Silly, intrusive background 'music', no explanation of what is shown on the external indicator panel, no mention of charging plug type, absence of showing how to set anything on the phone, ambivalent accent mixing estuary English with a sort of N.American and, overall, an ego trip posing as an empathetic guide for seniors.
I did away with this horribly designed fone. It's ugly ('gold'en rims...), interface/menu not well thought out, cannot single-handedly be opended. Yikes, I liked my old model Doro much better - until after 7 (!) years microphone broke down.
Nothing more than ageist. I am not over 65 but do not want a smart phone
People still buy useless phones? I’ll stick with an iPhone thanks
How to connect this phone to Wi-Fi? I got this phone for my mother. But, struggling to find where is the Wi-Fi option?
