i honestly don't mind the idea of sharing a dorm room with someone .yes,there might be little space and conflicts because of it but 1) i wouldn't mind making a new friend that is if my roommate is nice and not a cold person 2)we can decorate it however we want and make the living space work 3)having a roommate can make me motivated to keep my space clean at all times

Linda Sonne I guess you're from Germany too? 😊 Well, I like that we don't have dorms. I couldn't share a room with someone I don't know. Everything has to fit in such a small room and I don't like being around people all the time, so that would be hard for me. So I'm happy that dorms aren't common here, otherwise I would be missing out on something, which would be the case if I lived in the USA, I think. 😊

Joanna Prz There are single dorms in the U.S, but they’re harder to get as freshmen. Upperclassmen (junior+seniors) usually live off campus in apartments.

Joanna Prz people have the same things/feelings you are describing here in the U.S. You don't have to live in a dorm you can live at home and go to your local university. The reason why it is so often recommended is because you get to start having the experience with living on your own independently away from your parents without the fears of living completely on your own i.e. an apartment. In dorms you don't need to make your own food and there are RA (residential assistants) on every floor that support you through the year. U.S. studies have also found living on campus helps support higher grades, fosters connections and higher involvement with the community on campus. All of this aside almost everyone has the same worries as you (living with someone else) but almost everyone also sees the pros.

Marianne Lapierre yes she has an apartment too :) but she mainly uses that for filming and for her parents/guests when they come to stay
