Dordrecht, The Netherlands, Grote Kerk - the ring of ten bells

Музыка

A ring of ten bells has been installed at the Grote Kerk. This video was taken at the try-out on 1st October 2021. The Keltek Trust donated the back four bells; they were originally hung at St Mary, Low Harrogate, North Yorkshire and were the back four of a chime of eight.

Really a very nice video. They sound fantastic. The front six blend in very well with the back four. Job well done to everyone involved on this, very much a fantastic effort!

I used to chime the bells at St. Mary, Harrogate on occasions, nice 8 played by a wooden keyboard, large central tower - wondered what would happen to the bells when the church closed down many years ago. I had hoped that the complete 8 would have been installed together.

A lovely ring of bells! Well done to all who worked hard to make the project come to fruition.

@@MauveStingerStings That is not going to happen. Maybe at some Anglican churches in the Netherlands, but definitely not in the normal dutch churches!

@@MauveStingerStings You won't, but keep in mind that swinging the bells will be the main tradition in this country. It's okay to have an exception like Dordrecht, but not in the other Dutch churches ;)

At the end of the day, does it really seriously matter...? Because: bells are bells - they make a noise and they swing, regardless of what tradition it is. Besides, in the majority of videos of Dutch church bells I've seen, the bells are swung with electric motors. Hardly a tradition when a machine does the job.
