Baby Lasagna is a huge media story in Croatia, one that we haven't had in sooo long now. It's a perfect storm! Now let's hope HRT doesn't sabotage him because a lot of egoists work for Croatian broadcaster who don't like being told they're in the wrong 🤞

They don't like being told they're wrong and are also highly hypocritical, especially now retired Ksenija Urličić. When Let 3 won Dora she was furious and openly spread her dissatisfaction and let's say "hate speech" in media, but when they qualifed in the finale, she was like "yeah, they're the best, I'm so glad" - like hell you were...

We're gonna have a true show after a whie. Two semi and a grand final + interval acts incluing Slimane, Raiven, Let 3... Also the songs are some of the strongest they've ever been. I guess HRT was inspired by Let 3's success and decided to go all out.

Great analysis again. We MUST pick Baby Lasagna this year. It's absolutely true that he's miles and miles above all the others and with good staging it's material for TOP 10 for sure. I'm not expecting that he wins, we shouldn't put pressure on him. TOP 10 would be great, and all above that would be bonus. And I'll tell you why he was backup. Because HRT are place full of corruption and nepotism. Good example for this are Mario and Robert (Vodu piti,trizan biti),who shouldn't even be in the competition. Both of them have big connections with HRT as their presenters. Mario was one of the hosts in Dora 2023, while Robert is host in Radio Rijeka which is one of the HRT's radio stations. So,in some other countries with less corruption people on their positions would probably be rejected to compete. And imagine that slap in the HRT's face when we send "backup" Baby Lasagna in ESC.I can't wait.

Yes....today I saw a video where they explained how they applied...one of them invited the other (don't remember which way around) and the other one accepted simply for the hell of it, they wrote the song in a day or two just for kicks....taking the place of actual artists who put thought into their work, makes me sick

The one thing that got Croatia in the top 10 of the odds was when it was announced there would be international jurors added for Dora (they're doing both national and international) so that might give Baby Lasagna a boost. Rim tim tagi dim definitely has televote appeal if it goes to Eurovision. Its a relatable song for people in the Balkans and diaspora and it's catchy and easy to sing along to even if you aren't from an ex Yugo country.

The first time I heard Baby Lasagna it was from YLE radio channel (I know, I'm not a big ESC fan) I thought this must be some obscure industrial metal band from Heinävesi Finland or something. At the same time I have to admit I was immediately drawn to the song 100%. It's got loads of potential to break the televote in ESC and some Jury appeal ass well. For sure a top 10 finnish.

No matter how corrupted and lame are people that chose initial 24 songs, there is not a single chance that baby lasagna will NOT win, and probably he will win by huge margin, there is simply not a single song that can come close to him. Such a huge and deserved hype he got in the last 30 days here in Croatia, thats insane. So things are pretty clear already. We are all excited for the upcoming week to see what Baby Lasagna would do with the staging. Come on Baby all the way, and bring us top5 in eurovision this year!

I could absolutely get behind Rim Tim Tagi Dim winning, it really has something and it’s got Käärijä vibes in the same sense that it’s like a fun song with a sense of irony, it has bits that I could see there being a ton of audience participation in, but it’s also serious like you can tell this is just his style and it’s not just something “silly” put together just for Eurovision. To be honest I’ve also had the hook of Babaroga stuck in my head for weeks! I adore Let 3 and I would be super happy to see them in ESC again, but having read the comments section here I’m disappointed, I really hope there isn’t a massive rigging effort to stop BL or Let 3 from getting in.

Great Video as always. I just wanted to point/correct some things out. The one thing is, that in Eugens Tišine you can hear those strings and flutes which are part/ found in the croatian traditional music. So the song also has traditional elements besides the modern and epic feel to it. Its just an masterpiece of an song. And the second thing is, that Lanas more has a wrong translation. More is indeed the serbocroatian word for Sea, but in the context of the song it means "nocne more". What is directly translated into Night Sea which basicly means nightmares. She is singing about nightmares which are now yours. And Baby Lasagna is just the one to go with ! Not only because of the great rythm but also because of the meaning. He is singing about how a lot of young croatians are leaving croatia. "Hey I'm a big boy now, I'm ready to leave, ciao mama ciao. ..... Theres no going back ooooh ... Miau cat please miau back (he didnt forget his family,friends, pets etc.)" and so on. So theres a really deep meaning behind of it.

yea youre definitly right about Tisine, the reason i forgot about it in my recap is because i filmed the first part of the video 1-2 weeks before the second part and so i couldnt remember what the song sounded like thats cool about the meaning of Baby's song, just makes it even better.

Hahaha, not night sea 😂 more is pl. of mora. It is based on the legend of mora .. soul of the dead who did not go to heaven and come to sit on your chest at night. It is just written same as sea. Nightmare is nocna mora.

Sadly, Croatia is rife with corruption and nepotism, and this is the biggest reason why so many young people are leaving, just like Baby Lasagna describes in his song. This is also why he was an alternate - he is a no-name with no connections to HRT. It's a true miracle he even ended up in Dora - destiny, we might say. HRT are bragging that Croatia's 7th place in the odds is due to them doing something good and Let 3, which is simply hilarious, as due to their "expert" jury we almost missed out on Baby Lasagna entirely. Sadly, HRT doesn't really care about achieving a good result at Eurovision, more about promoting their cronies. Usually you can hear who will be the winner in advance, and it turns out to be true. This year, the buzz is that they're rigging it for the band Vatra. I'm praying for a miracle, us Lasagna fans are organsing to vote en masse. For me, it's not just that the song is good, it would also be a victory against Croatian corruption and incompetence!

Oh wow that Vatra song is NOT even remotely close to Baby’s league. It’s way way too repetitive. That’s awful about the corruption and also how crazy unaware the delegation is. Croatia are 7th in the odds 100000% cos of baby and Croatia will drop down to 30th if you don’t choose him

I get your exhaustion, unfortunately the audience feels the same, nepotism, corruption, hence dropping in the interest in the national as well as in Eurovision. Been thinking about that country forgot which one, 75% public vote, 25% jury. This actually, if anybody listened, might do good for PZE and DORA! Let jury make semi-final cuts, select the worthy, and let the audience HAVE THE VOTE in the finals.

I agree that Baby Lasagna stands out. Not realling loving it yet, mainly because I can't really see yet what it will look like live. The rest... well I could have done with a Dora of ten songs. Love your dedication to listen to them all!

There is one absolutely obvious clear choice in Baby Lasagna, and two lovely bops that I'm really enjoying listening to in Dijamanti and Gasoline. I'm harsher than you, tom, I genuinely don't think there's anything else in Dora this year. Some okay stuff but nothing I would even vaguely consider coming back to. Not incompetent in the way some stuff from Moldova is, but gun to my head I couldn't name three songs other than the three above that I love.

I feel the public will vote for Baby Lasagna but the jury might give a push to Eugen or Vinko, in Croatia the favourite never wins, Im curious what wil happen. And yes, the people choosing the songs are kind of traditional, older people, I would say it needs to be refreshed since they dont understand something different, unique. They like balkan ballads (traditional and old school stuff). They probably didnt see baby lasagna as good as it is. Im voting baby lasagna next week!

In terms of the lack of ethnic songs: I think post-independence the Croatian music scene has tried to distance itself from the "ethno" and "turbo-folk" sounds that were associated with Serbian artists and a particular "era." Artists like Severina are exceptions and quite disliked by some segments of the Croatian public. It partially explains why the lineup for Dora and PZE are so different.

Watch Marko's (Baby )interview with Wiwibloggs. He explains how he was notified of his entry's inclusion. He was completely unaware and therefore had less time to plan the stage show than everyone else. He gives off a very Damiano demeaner and his thoughtfullness and mannerisms are also very similar.

Thank goodness we have you to plough through 24 songs in a national final Tom. Definitely saves me the trouble 🙈 Surely, there is only 1 winner here. Baby Lasagna stands head and shoulders over everything else here. A joke entry?..a novelty act? I don't know! But i am here for it. I'm not a fan of the above mentioned genre but when there's some musical sophistication present, i can willingly get on board. Kaarija and Subwoolfer prove that everything doesn't have to be "serious and worthy" in order to be quality. This is why Windows95 Man totally repells me. It is cheap and meaningless whereas Baby Lasagna has musical value. Croatia, you know what you have to do! 🇭🇷🇭🇷🇭🇷

40:33 Tom, you forget early on with Nina's Lighthouse 2016 the people were really thinking that Croatia would win that year. I definitely remember winner hype on that song- and then we all remember the dress and the staging and the accusations of self-sabotage. It honestly convinced me Croatia was not a country to be taken seriously on par with the likes of the UK or Latvia or Montenegro back then. It's the song that looms in the back of my mind, because I wonder if the Croatian broadcaster really does want to win. Every indication seems to be that they do not, and for a country so known for its corruption...

Agree with you, why are some NF's so utterly gigantic?!? 😂 (Especially in Eastern Europe, it seems.) Says a Finn with a NF of just 7 songs for a few years now ;) But yeah, Baby Lasagna is by far the best thing here, love it & hope it will be chosen as the entry 😍 Though intrigued to see how it can be staged... As often songs that wow you as video don't quite reach the same effect live on stage. But we'll see!

On the second thought-I know Baby Lasagna is the correct choice, it’s the People choice but “Tišine” is more pleasant to my ear and taste.

The sad truth is that this really isn't the first time HRT dropped a good song in favour of generic ones. They do that every year. Dora is sadly a name competition and not song competition. But I do believe BL has a chance. Only real competition for him is Let 3. It's really gonna depend on who gives a better live performance.

Vinko has a sensational voice, good both at its full power and in the exquisite head voices. It is indeed a glorious instrument but the song, nice in and by itself, is unfortunately very dated. Beside the clear inspiration of Kodaline's ""All I Want"", the song sounds late 90s/early 00s. Eugen, on the other hand, has a far more ordinary instrument, but he knows how to use it (beside being quite handsome). The structure of the lyrics, morever, emphasises the use and sonority of the Croatian language making it impossible to mistake it for an English product. I must say, it's quite an interesting song. Damir Kedžo is really one generation too late. And even setting the clock back, he's not particularly innovative, he's just got this powerhouse of a voice that really should be put to better use.

After loving Let 3 in 2023, I was so disappointed when I first listened to Babaroga. BUT, I checked out the really special lyrics and kept listening and just like Mama SC, I grew to love it 💚💙💜

Last night recap: SF1 Oh DEAR GOD!!! So much nervousness, stage freight, so much yelling, screaming, songs that were great audio versions, LIVE…Tišine, I felt so bad for him! He was yelling, as if struck by cold, so struggling. Also, HRT favorites went through to finals, Battifiaca and really, hearing all, HARD TO SELECT AND VOTE FOR ANY!!! SLIMANE STOLE THE ENTIRE EVENING, Croatians gone wild over him!

SF2 Well, same but slightly smaller sound quality issues. BTW if sound was that bad, how come Slimane blew away everything heard earlier from the national contestants? He was singing on the same mic. He was the talk of entire day, Baby Lasagna presumably would be tomorrow. He gave his all out there, and yes, the audio, the video and live, all different, but great.

59:14 If the rumors are true that HRT is trying to push Vatra, then I think that this boring selection might be intentional. Based on my time living in Croatia, "Slatke suze gorka ljubav" is very much a song you would expect to hear on the radio or at cafes in Croatia, and I'd bet you'd be hard-pressed to find a Croat who actively hates the song for the song. And looking at the original lineup before Baby Lasagna was in the contest, it probably would be the favorite to win because I can't really see the songs that would challenge it (I'm mainly thinking of "Gasoline", "Tišine", and "Dijamanti") doing well enough with both the jury and public vote to pull off a win above it. Again, assuming there is a conspiracy, Zsa Zsa withdrawing threw a wrench in that plan because it allowed Baby Lasagna to compete, and if I had to guess, HRT didn't expect there to be this much of a positive reaction to "Rim tim tagi dim" which is why they felt comfortable having it as the first alternate.

Everybody is saying Baby Lasagna copy-cat Kaarija…he needs to change it if wishing to win. Who says I wish him to win? First, I wish him to win DORA. And afterwards do his best in Malmö. Not necessarily winning. Having the time of his life. Young ladd, he should do just that. Let France WIN! They are rich enough to organise a big show, plus, really having great ballads for the past couple of years.

Hi all! Update: BL may have won the battle…HRT absolutely not admitting mistake made! Last night there was a TV comment society-political show about DORA/Eurovision phenomenon and guests were talking against him, against “turbo-folk” tradition, meaning cheap, kitsch music…they should provide support to nationally selected Croatian representative! Also, international jury: well, they’ve done their best, too! Ukraine, 1st in the odds, no 12 pts, Italy, also competition, no 12pts, Germany, 12pts to Eugen, why, well, it’s a German name! Hope HRT would do what’s expected. He is not played on nation-wide radios either. Yes, one time guest, but trending, NO! 😡

Lesson in Croatian: 'More' can mean few things, depends on context. In this context it means 'Nightmares', not 'Sea'. She sings 'My nightmares are yours now'. - Battifiaca went through, evem though the 'song' is beyond boring trash, becouse he sometimes work for HRT. - all of the generic songs have some connection to Croatian radio or television. - Kedžo needs a decent song, but his manager does not want to find one becouse Croatian radio audience does not like good songs, and that's his only audience. They like cheap, outdated trash with lot of screaming. You should listen to most played 'music' on Croatian radio (it's a part of HRT). Beyond awfull - I'm afraid baby lasagna might not get through becouse he does not have enough money to pay local 'expert' jurors even though he has the only song that's not generic nothing. Corruption on HRT is big, that's known in public for decades now. That's how Željko Houdek went to ESC even though audience said 'No' to him 6 times already in 6 years before when he tried and epicly failed on 'Dora'. No one liked him then, no one likes him now. HRT just 'decided'. We are still ashamed of his moronic egotistical 'let it go' performance.

@@ESCTom I learned that part of score for 'Dora' finals comes from 4 international juries - Iceland, Germany, Italy and Ukraine. 50% public (that's 100% lasagna), and I think 25% croatian juries, 25% international juries. I'm doubtful they will choose lasagna since he is direct competition to their representatives, especially the latter two who are in top 10 already. They might go for boring and to loud Kedžo since he is benigne as usual. But, since all beside Ukraine has sent rock or electro-rock songs at least once, and if majority of those juries are fan-based, maybe I'll be proven wrong. I do hope I'm wrong, very wrong.

The only thing I don't like about Rim Tim Tagi Dim is that the chorus is so repetitive

It's catchy, but I am iffy about this nu-metal influence, the vocals need to be on point live

And LED lyrics are a must, otherwise, People who do not hear the song, would not get the cow, cat and domestic life importance. Or just leave it as in video, that’s great, pictograms + text

@ That's a good idea! It's a challenging song to stage since it has so many Instrumental parts as well
