    Even though we already own a doona, I was very excited to see your review. You make excellent points and I agree with them all! We used our doona for international travel to the UK when our little one was only 2.5 months old. I was very nervous about traveling from city to city via uber or public transport but the doona was a life saver! Every uber driver watched in amazement as I walked past the open trunk and put the whole shi-bang in the backseat. Never seen anything like it!

    wow! this comment will make me buy it , think!! We will be travelling with our 3month old. I am currently 4 months pregnant and researching the simplest, most minimalistic solution for us :) and of course most comfy for the baby. I was just worried that it doesnt lie flat, but I concluded it is no that dramatic, right?

    We also have a Uppababy Vista but that like an SUV of strollers. The Doona is a Porsche 911 in comparison to the Uppababy. Does everything well in a small package. The engineering of accessories add joy to fatherhood.

    I considered having the Doona and actually added it to my registry but after some deep thought I decided it wasn’t practical enough for me. I ended up choosing the Cruz with the Mesa. Why not the Doona, it will be winter season and it can be snowy at times. The lack of storage for me as a working mom also is a downside. I would like to have the extensions without having to purchase them.

    I love my Doona! And I will have a hard time to say "bye" to it. My boy is 1.5 yo and we only yesterday bought the next stage car seat. We own a small row house close to the city centre with no possibility to park next to the house. Our parking is about 300-400m away. I cannot imagine dragging almost half a kilometer a regular car seat or assembling it every time on a buggy frame. Ufff With Doona it was one click, wheels out, and we could just stroll home (or to the car). Best buy ever!!! I do realise it is not meant to serve as a regular stroller (no suspension and all) but let's face it - a baby's spine is not meant to curl in a car seat for too long, either. For babies the healthiest is to lie in a flat stroller or in a baby wrap. For that reason alone, I do own a regular size stroller for longer walks. Doona was used for daily commuting and for short city walks. Love it! It will await a second baby now ;)

    Im about 6 months pregnant. I am very excited about this and I just got it yesterday. I’m having a hard time getting this to open and fold up from and to car seat mode to on the go mode. The directions are not exactly detailed. The handle HAS to be in certain positions to make moves and changes. My lower back is hurting so I will have to let my husband read directions and figure it out then show me. I have a little doll in it trying it out. This will be my 1st baby

    Great video. Really love the concept of this car seat and almost got one. The bigger dilemma for us ride-sharing parents is the next phase: convertible seat plus stroller. I wish they made something like this for that phase. For now, I'm stuck flipping the car seat upside down in the basket and using a bungee cord to secure it to the handlebar. Workable, but clunky and also eliminates the ability to use a storage basket for anything else. Not sure what I'm gonna do when we add baby #2 to the mix.

    Christi B check out the mountain buggy nano + Cosco Scenera next. We use this combination when travelling with our one year old. The car seat itself is light and can be strapped into the stroller when we are walking around. Once you’re in your ride share, the stroller folds down very small. Good luck!

    If I still lived in NYC I would get this hands down! I’m out of state now in the suburbs so I don’t think I really need this. I considered it for travel, but its a pretty expensive to not use it all the time. I have a suv so trunk space isn’t really a concern. This is baby #2 (12 years apart), and I know that after the baby can sit up I will be bringing a shopping cart seat cover for most shopping, and for anything more involved, my Uppababy stroller will be in use (ie: mall trips). Great review!

    Thanks for the review. I really like the idea of this but worry about baby sleeping in the car seat scrunched. Ive bought a used egg pram and think I'm going to go with the cybex car seat that can lie flat, and put that on the base. Although it won't be as convenient it does mean baby can lie flat sleeping in the car seat while I'm shopping/visiting people rather than sitting up. I think its a cybex z cloud or something like that.

    Had a quick question on a different video but I wanted to ask it here so it had a better chance to be seen... Does the amazon echo 3rd gen (not the dot) work just like the amazon echo 2nd gen in your baby tour 2.0 video? Ideally what we want to do is tell Alexa to play a looping lullaby from our bedroom (using a 3rd gen dot/Alexa app on the iPhone) so we don’t have to enter the baby’s room and disturb him. Hope the new house is almost done :)

  • @thescenesociety

    My sister got this stroller and I know she’ll probably really like it but my son got too wide for his infant car seat at about 8 months. It started to be a tight fit , he was born with broad shoulders. And also didn’t like facing me in his car seat whenever we were out at 9 months. He HAD to be facing out. I upgraded to a double stroller now that my son is 1 and I have another one on the way. So either way I didn’t have my single stroller for too long. But it doesn’t only depend on how big your baby is for him to outgrow this but also your baby’s preference on facing towards you or away from you. Some babies at 6 months like to sit up and look around. Like mine.

Also as a extra note my wife is having a cesarean so this is also perfect for when it comes to leaving the hospital as we don't have to carry the car seat out with the baby we can just push it along with everything else.

    Hi Andrew, thank you for reviewing the Doona. I really want to buy one for our future kids but my friends are telling me that it's not good for babies to be in a car seat for more than 20 min at a time. Do you use this as a normal stroller (longer than 20 min) or just for short walks/drives? I'm just not sure how to use it since I don't have kids and experience with strollers yet.

  • @dadverb

    @dadverb

    4 жыл бұрын

    I've seen this a lot. While that is best practice, a majority of families drive and run errands for way more than 20 minutes. Regardless of the car seat brand, no baby should be in a semi-upright position for a prolonged period of time as it can potentially strain a developing spine or restrict airflow. With that in mind, we personally go by the "2-hour Rule" and it's recommended to supervise vehicle sleep. While I understand the 20-minute thing, it just doesn't seem realistic to achieve. Again, all of this isn't particular to Doona, but all car seats.

    Technically best practice is taking baby out every 3 hours. I feel like this still would be helpful though because even if your errands are over 3 hours you can just take the baby out to feed or whatever for 20mins or so and then put them back in. All of this still falls into best practice guidelines.

I should also mention that I actually didn’t purchase the traverse. It came free with the diono car seat I purchased and I was so excited to use it. I love everything about it except for the fact that my child looks like he is falling out of it :(

    Do you recommend any Doona convertible car seat (for 2 yrs) that fits to its stroller?

  • @dadverb

    @dadverb

    2 жыл бұрын

    Convertible car seats are meant to be locked into the seat of your car and cannot be adapted to strollers. Stroller adaptability is only the case with infant seats. Good convertibles to consider are the Nuna Rava, Britax Advocate and Graco Extend2Fit.

    I just worry about the baby being in a car seat position for so long. Generally babies shouldn't be scrunched up in a car seat for too long because it affects their spinal development and can affect their breathing. Isn't it best for new born babies to be in a lie flat position? This is an amazing and very clever product, but is it appropriate for the babies development and health?

    I've been seeing this sentiment a lot, but that is less of a concern about Doona itself and rather pertinent to all infant car seats in the market. I should touch on this in a dedicated video but you can read how we navigate that here: bit.ly/2KxooHr

    Yeah, it's one thing to have a baby in a vehicle in a car seat, there it's beneficial because of safety, but outside of the car, carseats should not be used for a long time, especially if the baby's asleep. There are now some car seats that when you put them on the stroller you can adjust the angle to a more lie flat position.

    Things I dont like about this car seat/stroller: 1. It’s heavy 2. Unable to adjust position of handle bar if fully extended 3. Unable to latch to its base because the straps are not snug 4. Unable to tighten the straps in #3 because the loop into the bottom of the stroller, and when pressed on the base, you cannot tighten the straps 5. Because of #4, you have to take the stroller back out from the base, tighten the straps and hope the straps are tight enough for the stroller to latch into the base 6. Because of #5, you better hope your baby isn’t suffocating 7. No cargo net or cup holder. Overall, the design is terrible. It’s convenient but i’ve dealt with these issues for too long. I’ve since bought a Graco car seat and an Uppa Baby stroller. Life is so much better now.

    We loved the doona initially. However, the stroller stopped latching into the car seat base after a few months. Contacted customer service and they really try to put up as many barriers as possible to replacing your broken product. After filling out the initial round of forms, they ask you to send in a video with the problem. I was like WTF, I’m not a KZreadr. I’m a mom trying to replace her stroller.
