It's such an over looked thing as well. Jane, having been abused by her Father, and Cliff, having screwed up as a Father, play off each other so well. I think, in the end, Cliff learned to become a better Father/Grandfather by being the Father that Jane never had. Jane learned what a Father figure could/should be thanks to Cliff.

The best, and saddest, thing about this finale is that the series ended where it began: with Cliff. Be was truly the gateway for the audience into this show. Sure, the Titans episode introducing several of the members helped the excitement for this show, but Cliff's story throughout that first episode of the first season is really why we got invested in the show. And ending off the show by giving him back what he missed out on, and letting him pass in peace, a changed... Robotman... It was a truly beautiful end.

As a kid, never in my wildest dreams did I ever think we'd get to see the Doom Patrol in live-action. For them to get a television show that lasted 4 seasons, 46 episodes, which outlasted the original DC Universe streaming service they were on is a huge achievement in this day and age. That very final scene with Cliff reminds me a lot of the opening scene of Up, it's such a great short scene that tells an entire story in just a montage of a few important moments. Doom Patrol has its ups and downs as a series, but I think it's fair to say it ended on probably the strongest scene of the entire series.

Everything in this ending stuck the landing for me, except two things - the showrunners giving Dororthy the absolute shaft by shuffling her away with no closure which also meant no return for the Chief, and second Jane's choice in person. Srsly wanted her to give the Fog another chance, felt like she owed it to her a little at least.

For Dorothy. I thought she left on her own terms and explored the world. She has space case but she was only there to protect her in the mean time. But bc her father told Danny to take care of her and she has the candlemaker to protect her, she thinks it’s time for her to move on. As for the fog, I think she saw something in the musical that she didn’t see before and when she got the chance as a changes person, she knew where to go and who to go with. Lucky Space Case was there and she felt like she didn’t get the chance to say how she felt. That’s how I saw it and how others also said it as well.

  • @Shouten707

    @Shouten707

    7 ай бұрын

100% agree with you on the fog. Like, why? Why put in so much time and effort into that build up just to randomly pair Jane with the useless character that was Space Case? Were talking about multiple episodes of actual chemistry, development, and build up between fog and Jane. Compared to a SINGLE episode (the musical) of Space Case showing interest in Jane. Dumb.

I think the "final battle" was that way cause they werent expecting to get canceled, so they had to make room to give the characters closer. Similar to season 3 where they beat both candlemaker and miranda in the first 10-15 minutes, because covid cut season 2 short so they had to hurry and wrap it up so they could move on with their season 3 plans

Doom Patrol for me never always hit the mark and had it's issues and flaws but when it was on point... fuck did it hit hard. This final episode didn't end the series like I hoped in terms of story but that doesn't matter at all. It showcased the writing, the acting talent and overall the heart of the show and that will stick with me far longer than if there was some kind of Avengers-worthy battle scene to end all battle scenes. Once I'd done with crying I just clapped at my TV. All I could really do at that point.

Cliff death may have been teased throughout the season. I had to see what end stage Parkinson’s symptoms are and seeing that cliffs body isn’t a human body, most of it is just mental. And seeing how he gets very stiff. Can’t move his body and also falls kinda teases it. And it through the season, it became more frequent and his end is on point even if it means he does pass away. But I’m not sure if he’s able to see his friends and family considering that he still has some Demi at of his body just like how Rita appeared to the rest. I like to think he’s just a ghost and he saw the Crystal to see it’s all good and even though bad things happen, it finds a way to be all good and he doesn’t need to worry anymore while he’s alive. But as a ghost, he can always see his family and friends even if he can’t physically touch them.

While I did enjoy the ending, I feel like I might be the only person on Earth who thinks the ending was rushed and there was a lot going on that we were never told as the audience because either they didn't have time or they just expected everyone to be familiar with the comic books (I am not). - The whole thing with Larry x Rama seemed confusing. Why was Rama in a box at the bottom of the ocean (was this mentioned in a previous episode with both of them that I just totally blanked on)? What exactly did they do in space? I keep reading that he became a "star" but how could you tell just from that (again, if this is in the comic book, that's just lazy for people who only watch the tv show)? - The whole relationship between Jane and Casey also felt rushed. There was very little interaction between them except for the brief hint of attraction in the Immortimus episode and then suddenly they're together forever in a spaceship. They really needed more screentime together to establish that. - Not a single appearance of Dorothy? Not to mention the fact I really really hate how they kept teasing that everyone else BUT her got to see Niles not once but TWICE after he died. If they really wanted to turn on the water works, they should have had a final goodbye scene with the two of them. I originally thought based on how that scene between him and Jane ended in the previous episode, that he was going to do "something" before he drank the amnesia drink (or whatever it's called). Like record a final message to everyone, or at least to Dorothy, to be discovered one day in the future. Or just have his ghost appear to her because that's a thing, too. - Rouge was somewhat satisfying but I felt like they spent the last couple of seasons of her just feeling sorry for herself only to suddenly in a few moments in the final episode become an anti-hero of sorts. They really should have had her start to find her inspriation/self-worth earlier in the season I felt like but that one is admittedly a minor nitpick. - Another minor nitpick: No Alan Tudyk / Mr. Nobody :( They couldn't have somehow squeezed out an hour of his time during the filming of the entire season just for a short, 5-minute scene? I was pretty satisfied with the Vic and Cliff endings though, and of course the Cliff one made me bawl.

rama already said what he was going to do so i'm not sure why are you confused about that part (it's in the scene where larry is digging his grave and rama basically told him his own way of containing himself to not harm others). for dorothy, i did wish we get to see her, but i do think she doesn't need to see niles to have a closure, i think we saw her acknowledgement of nile's death and she is starting to move on. they could have at least given her a little moment where she goes on with danny and deciding where to go for their adventure. jane and casey felt very rushed. larry and rama at least had more time, despite the not-so-subtle hints of them becoming a thing after just having their first encounter. at least they get to have this moment of knowing each other's pain and how similar they are to each other. they know and understand the other because they went through something similar. but jane and casey felt really forced. yes, casey got to help jane with the puzzle pieces a bit, but then we immediately got told they have feelings for each other on a duet, rather than showing us a bit more development.

I might be in the minority, the ending was not bad at all, but it was super depressing... Only Vic, Larry and Kay got hopeful endings.. Cliff got to see his grandson's life events, but it was sad to see that Rory turned out as much of a flawed guy as his grandfather was, had an estranged relationship with his daughter as his grandfather did and became a grandfather.. Rita's whole arc this season was incredibly sad.. She is already weary as a leader, she loses her longevity, and she just gives up... Sure, she and Rouge make peace, but She just gives up on life.. She might find peace in the afterlife, but her whole character arc was incredibly sad..She never had a moment with Niles.. Rouge's ending was in her character, sad that she never forgave herself... Cliff's ending was bittersweet, but damn... For him to die peacefully at the end was heartbreaking... The man is incredibly flawed, but it sucks that he never got to cry tears of Joy.. Niles ruined him.. He might have had the same life as Rory lived, but this sucks... I wanted something better for Cliff... To be able to feel more.. It is not a bad ending in any way, just a depressing one... Damn.. I am glad that we at least got this instead of a rushed, abrupt ending... I wish Alan Tyduk had been present in the final episode, he made the series iconic and timeless in season 1... But yeah... God, I need some time to recover from this depressing ending..

It wasn't terrible, but they clearly didn't have time to set up a proper finale and just hastily reshot the last ep trying to fit it in. The Casey/Jane thing came out of nowhere (The Fog?) A season of building Immortus then nothing. No resolution. The Butts, too (multiple seasons of setup for... what?) No Dorothy? No Danny? No Flex? Rouge ending up with Danny would have given her a chance to grow as a character. No Mister Nobody? No APV-man? I'm saying, bubble shows like this should always have an exit plan and a clause in the fine print that guarantees them the time to do it.

They don’t need to have a resolution for every character. There is no need for an ending for flex, Danny, Mr nobody nor avp man. I agree with Dorthy a little bit but we already got her ending.

I agree with the Fog, it was a better constructed relationship. Also, Dorothy not having a goodbye was sad. But I think the rest were not necessary, it's a world with metahumans everywhere. I don´t get mad about Inmortus to me, it makes sense, all the villains from the doom patrol are barely defeated, or are defeated funnily (Mr Nobody with the explosion of larry and then they were tiny, candle-man with a deal (and Niles died), DADA brotherhood did the eternal flagellation etc, brotherhood of evil was divided and killed).

Jane and Casey was so weird to me. They were in like 2 episodes and now they're in love? Anyways, this was sentimental. Cliff and Rita's ending hit hard. But this show and Young Justice were why I got a HBO Max subscription. Now they're done. Glad I was here for the ride

I agree... I think the Fog character would had been a better choice, because of the construction of their relationship.

Three romantic endings Rita/Jane/Larry, one good ending Vic, one depressing ending Cliff and one villan origins story Rouge. The romantic endings were so-so, Rita's was fine, Larry's felt selfish, much like Larry himself, and Jane's felt like she abandoned the possibility of finding out who she was, to hook up with a person who wasn't really real, and who she might only have feelings for because of a magic musical. Good ending was good. The depressing ending though - Cliff watched his grandson commit all the same mistakes as himself, and he didn't think there was anything wrong with it... I would have liked it better, if his last words had been "Don't let him be like me." Cliff faced all his mistakes throughout the show but in the end he learned nothing. I want to see a spin-off with Rouge being an antihero like The Punisher, killing people she deem to be worse than her. Vic could even show up from time to time, whenever she crossed the line, which would be often.

Feel like this series needed a 5th season to flesh things out a bit more. These last 3 episodes lacked Dorothy, she was there then randomly left off screen. Casey was just randomly there at times with no actual character development and never actually interacted with the team. Jane/K didn't need a love interest but rather be her own person(s). Larry really didn't learn much which is a shame. Rita is the only one to learn to truly let go. Would've been nice to have seen Cyborg joining the Teen. Titans at the end. Also would've been nice to see Flex and Willoughby one last time

Nice wrapup! I agree, the human stories were wrapped up beautifully, but it would have been nice to get a little more superhero. Budget and time issues, I guess. But these are characters I'll remember, so I call it good.
