Cock and Ball Torture, from Wikipedia. The free encyclopedia at en.wikipedia.org. Cock and ball torture (CBT), occasionally known as penis torture, dick torture, or male genitorture/male genital torture, is a sexual activity involving the application of pain or constriction to the penis or testicles. This may involve directly painful activities, such as genital piercing, wax play, genital spanking, squeezing, ball-busting, genital flogging, urethral play, tickle torture, erotic electrostimulation, kneeing or kicking. The recipient of such activities may receive direct physical pleasure via masochism, or emotional pleasure through erotic humiliation, or knowledge that the play is pleasing to a sadistic dominant. Many of these practices carry significant health risks.

It's amazing how things in Doom just work, no wonder the game has survived so long (obviously thanks to the ID guys' philosophy of being friendly to hackers and then even releasing the source code for players to make their own modifications). For being the first game you can really take seriously of this style, it pretty much does everything right. Even the Nightmare difficulty that I thought wasn't viable and that the devs probably didn't care much about balancing properly, ends up generating a very interesting gameplay even by today's standards.

I think Toxic Refinery is Doom's trial by fire level on ANY difficulty when starting out. To to total newcomer, it starts forcing you to get serious in general, when you're doing UV for the first time it teaches you the need to dodge, threat assessment, and crowd control, and on Nightmare, the forced backtracking gives you the first taste of what you're really in for after the mostly linear first two levels. Just surviving this level on Nightmare feels like a real accomplishment.

I tried Nightmare once just to see how far I could get and E1M3 was where I gave up due to the hitscan.

I love Turbo Pinkies, no enemy can invoke a fight or flight response like a horde of them rushing you can, would be neat if WADs utilized them outside of Nightmare/fast monsters.
