Donovan Mitchell created 83 points in 30 minutes!

Спорт

Donovan Mitchell scored 71 points with 11 assists -- making him "responsible" for 99 points (from his points and points off assists), the second highest total in NBA history behind Wilt's 100 point game. This detailed film breakdown looks at how Mitchell was able to use his slashing, savvy reads and pick-and-roll change of direction to slice up the Bulls as a scorer and playmaker on a record-setting night.

Been saying for some time, league is so infinitly more talented right now than in any era before it is not even funny. Like the only era that comes even kind of close would be the early to mid 2000s, but even that dosent quite match it. Makes sense too as basketball exploded in popularity outside od USA lately. I can very much remember how just like a decade ago it was not even close to football in almost any EU country, now it is almost on the same level in many of them (tho still not quite there, but nowdays it is easier to go out and play pickup ball 3x3 then a futsal game, when that used to be all we played when I was a kid).

What I love about Mitchell besides his great skill and him being team oriented is how nice a guy he is. One example: a while ago at Cavs pre game shoot around a youngster with an item of Evan Mobley apparel (jersey I believe) seeing Spida but not Evan, asked the former to sign the item. Not only did Mitchell do so, he even sought out Mobley, obtained his signature and returned it to the young fan with 2 signatures. How many players would made said young fan's day by going out of his way like he did? My guess is not very many!

One thing about the size thing between him and Sexton. They are the same height, but Mitchell's height is misleading as it relates to his overall size. It is crazy how similar this game was to what Luka did just a week ago. Both games adjusted to who Luka and Mitchell are as players, sith Luka getting 21 rebounds as one of the best guard rebounders ever while Mitchell scored more due to his speed and increased pace that follows (dallas has by far the slowest pace in the league I think-not that it is good or bad but it does making scoring outbursts harder due to less shots going up). Both even forced OT in almost the same way. Genuinly crazy how much talent there is in the league right now. Lets be real, skills and talent wise Mitchell is basicly a DWade clone with an elite 3pt shot and he still isnt even concidered top10 in the league by most. Sure he isnt half the defender prime Wade was but still to me that is just insane. Put a talent like that in the early 2010s and he is top3 MVP candidate almost every season.

@Larry James lets calm down now. There are clear top 7 players right now and mitchell isnt one of them (yet). There is next to no argument for putting him ahead of Luka, Jokic, Giannis, Embiid, Curry, KD or even Tatum. He is great but there is too much talent in the league.

Hey man one thing I think you would be good at commentating on is a thing I only saw once last year … it’s the 7 point play. As crazy as that sounds I’ve seen it 4 or 5 times this year so it’s no longer an anomaly. Im talking about shooting 3, getting a tech for someone stepping under you as you land, making the shot, and getting the shot (3 + 1) PLUS the ball back again and then draining a 3. So it takes a certain serendipity you can’t plan for it it’s easier than you think and will feature in playoffs soon too.

Is there are why any foul outside the arc can't be 3 free throws? I can't see a clear reason for why that would somehow break the game and it prevents situations like this where players intentionally foul a player to force them to take 2 free throw. Alternatively I heard of the proposition (I think JJ advocated this) that if you foul someone in the backcourt, the team on offense should repossess the ball after the free-throws, but that seems even harsher to me. You could even make it something like in the last minute of the game, any foul outside of the arc is worth three free-throws. I've seen too many situations like this (although miraculously both Mitchell and Doncic made it) or discussion on whether someone was in the act of shooting when they were blatantly hacked. To me it shouldn't make a difference, if a team is down 3 in the last moments of a game, they should get 3 free-throws if their opponent blatantly hacks them.

I knew Donovan was capable of something stupid like this. We saw him scoring 40 and 50 almost effortlessly in the bubble a couple years back. He's developed into an even better player and as the #1 guy in Cleveland it was only a matter of time and circumstance before he did something crazy like this. The truly scary thing is too, I think he can do it again. This guy is an all time scorer. He doesn't have the volume of points that other guys have had due to how much time he's missed in his young career or the post season success that guys like Luka have, but it's just a matter of time and circumstance before he gets those too.
