I was born in 1991 and literally just found this album. This is my style, my god. So good. (Ive known who Donny was since I was 14 but I didnt think to deep dive his discography. Seeing him in Vegas so I decided to do some digging and oh my god where has this been my whole life lol)

This definitely is one of my favorite album by him. I can listen to it from beginning to end over and over again. Great songs and excellent vocals.

Way to go Peacock! You did a great job on the Masked Singer!

This is my fav Donny album. But he has MANY great ones! It's unfortunate that he, nor his brothers, ever got the recognition they really deserved! They were stereotyped as bubblegum because of Donny's teenage sound. But they wrote and recorded some great rock & roll songs!! Some were quite popular but once the Donny & Marie Show came out they were lost in the shuffle. They not only sing, but dance, act and play many instruments. They are multi-talented. And Donny is as well. People just never got over his "Puppy Love" image, which he was trying to change with this album and the Soldier of Love album. I think he proved to the world what a great singer he is though as the Peacock on Masked Singer. His Vegas run with Marie ended last year after 11 very successful years...and this year he is starting a solo run on the strip in August. I'm sure it will be just as successful!

I'm getting strong Prince vibes from this album. And I love it! Underrated!

if this was anyone else it would have been all over the airwaves, but since it was a grown man who was stigmatized in a certain image folks slept on a great album...'Never Too Late For Love' is still one of my favorite songs. 🙂

@@horsin6438 ... It actually WAS worlds apart. Come on... You can't compare Donny at 13 years old in 1973 to Donny at 31 in 1990 (respective ages at albums' release). I love both albums equally, and probably "Portrait of Donny" somewhat more (from whence came "Puppy Love"), because I was such a little kid.. 3, 4 years old.. when my older sisters and my mom were playing it. That said, I'd say that I love both albums for different reasons, but what ties them both together is their amazing MUSICALITY. Melodies, harmonies, production were all top-notch in their respective eras.

My favorite album from donny

i bought this album in a cassette form in 1991..it was my best collection ever. but years went by and it got lost and unfortunately i forgot the album's name all these years..don't know how, by luck i remembered 1 track title that is éyes don't lie' today. I googled and found this whole album..it's dejavu now listening to love will survive & private affair. OMG! No words to describe..TQ for uploading the album and tq to DO for singing such beautiful songs..

This album is the jam... Donny showed a very soulful sound. I must say I liked this album better then his comeback album. 😎

Me too! Some songs are outstanding! And "Never to late for love" is so good it almost make me cry

I love how "Take Another Try (At Love)" is kind of a take-off of "One Bad Apple," The Osmonds' huge hit from 1971, complete with samples.

I really observe with the look of the cover, lol. Great album.

I have loved this album front to back for over 30 years. It should been huge but even Soldier Of Love’s success started by not revealing who the artist was because Donny wasn’t cool enough. This album stands on its own. My Love Is A Fire sampling Ohio Players’ 1975 #1 song is 🔥, and Sure Lookin’ should have been a hit. But the title track was wild and Prince-like. Love Will Survive, Make It Last Forever, and Before It’s Too Late were amazing ballads, but my guilty pleasure was Take Another Try (At Love) which sampled the Osmonds’ 5 week #1 hit One Bad Apple 🍎, which took a kick at the new Jack swing sound of the early 90’s. This album deserved so much better, but it will always be in my heart. Thx Donny for my favourite album of yours. It’s a great accomplishment!

I was just a casual fan back in the 80's/90's so I didn't follow his career very closely. But I always really liked the Soldier of Love album & wondered if he did any more albums like that one. I just saw this on Amazon & had no idea this record even existed until now. I also noticed that it came out in 1990 (a year later) so I fig the style would be very similar. Much to my delight, it looks like I was right. Anyway, this is really good stuff & thanks alot for posting this.

Pop music brilliance. Eyes Don't Lie and Sure Looking are absolute pop masterpieces. Turn it up!

@@sanatino ... I think the observations here are more about the production and musical techniques-that actually do sound Prince-influenced-than Donny's voice. In fact, I guarantee that. It's about the production and music sounding a bit like Prince, and definitely not Donny's vocals.

I love that song but my fav is My Love is A Fire. It peaked at #21 on the Top 100 Billboard. Should have been #1 in my opinion!

Make it last forever and never too late for love segue too.

This album bring back sweet memories. The only song I did not like was another try in love 1991
