Thank you Richard for turning your pain & shame into art. It was so refreshing to hear a man being honest and vulnerable in this way. It set you free along with so many other people struggling. We don’t talk enough about men who have been sexually assaulted and it’s important that we do.
there’s something so meta about watching this after watching the show. What an incredibly complex psychological story to retell. This story means a lot to those that are struggling with ptsd or post trauma symptoms.

I think it’s brilliant how Gadd turned his trauma into art with this series. I’ve seen mixed reactions and many folks wonder how he could’ve possibly re-lived his trauma through acting it out, but I don’t think it’s much different (in regards to re-living past trauma) than someone writing a memoir featuring personal trauma. Or participating in TED Talks, speeches, interviews, etc. He created something that goes beyond just sharing one’s story via words. Film and TV provokes almost all of our senses. It goes beyond just reading or hearing about another’s lived experiences; It allows us to live it with them. Much like I’m sure young Gadd was at the time of the events of the show’s re-enactments, I had no idea what was coming next and was more horrified as every episode passed. The courage it took to create something that resonates with people, despite the outlandish nature of Martha’s character and even of Gadd’s comedic journey, is immeasurable. Many comments here convey that people think Gadd was unjustly portrayed in his show, but I think his portrayal of himself reflects how he was feeling about himself during the events. It’s not rare that we see ourselves drastically differently than others do, after all. Baby Reindeer is a beautiful and tragic work of art with which Richard Gadd has so graciously allowed us to see this part of his life through his eyes. Sharing something like this with the world, especially through film, is outrageously brave. I am just in awe of his courage and I hope this project has propelled his healing journey even further along. Well done.

I didn’t argue anything about stopping - I said any potential “trauma” is a result of his bad decisions. Everyone around him persistently tells him that he appears to enjoy the mayhem in his life, and he himself agrees (for example that he enjoys Martha being in his life as she sees him the way he wants to be seen, even though he admits she’s dangerous) - that’s HIS decision. He also ironically claims he wishes it could be him who has ruined his own life, totally oblivious that it’s his actions that put him there.

There's a saying that "comedy is tragedy plus time." It suggests that many comedians use humor as a coping mechanism to deal with their own personal struggles or hardships. So, while they may appear jovial and entertaining on stage, they may also carry a lot of sadness or pain when they're not performing. It's the irony of finding laughter in the midst of sorrow.

Yes. Yes you are
I just watched the show binged it all today and omg the way I bawled my eyes out at the end… fucking hell watching him having a panicked attack after talking to his rapist was so fucking hard to watch.. seeing himself in that bartender and seeing himself in Martha, the talk with his parents and how supportive they were made me cry so much too.. I just kept crying and crying. The whole monologue scene was so hard and cringe to watch but also so relatable and real…
He really channeled his art into a cathartic experience to cope with everything that has happened to him. I hate that some people are scruitinising everything he has ever done and whether he's a "good enough" victim just because the real Martha came out of the woodworks...
I recently went through rough things in my life, cancer, mom died, got divorced to name a few... going thorugh it and the aftermath have been the most difficult couple of years of my life but comedy, making it funny takes off some of the pain i guess because I've told my story to a few people and I tell it as a comedy routine. I dunno it's such a weird paradox

N i would’ve sat n listened to every word as well. He’s so well spoken it’s interesting, from the accent idk the tone, the comedy he throws in.. brave
I hope this was cathartic for him in these early days
Heartbreaking story
He did great :)
The scene in Baby Reindeer is an artistic representation, it doesn't make it untrue. Just like he's using art here to tell his truth.
Mans doing slam poetry
La risa de Martha💀
i was groomed for a few years as a kid when he was saying my fault his fault my fault his fault my fault his fault. it wasnt my fault. it took me like 6 or so years to actually realize that. it wasnt our fault. this made me tear up a bit damn

He looks like nitty 😂
This is from his show Monkey See Monkey Do. The T.V show brought me here and only just now realising I saw this live. Remembered it not being quite what I expected from a comedy show but as a 22 year old lad it was a really informative and eye opening experience. He is also far funnier than represented in the show
This has to be the hit broadway version before Netflix picked it up
