"Don Pasquale" is one of my favorite operas, and I was lucky to find a magnificent performance on CD - from about 1932, starring the great Titta Ruffo as Ernesto, Adelaide Sarceni as Norina, and that unbeatable comic duo of Afro Polli and Ernesto Badini as Malatesta and Pasquale. What a comic gem the opera is, especially when sung by a really fine ensemble!

Impissible! Titta Ruffo was a baritone and he couldn't sing Ernesto!

@@szerminator355 Yes, you're right; I relied on my memory. I had to dig through a box of CDs to find the recording - and it was Tito Schipa as Ernesto. My apologies.

J-D Flores is a world treasure. What a gorgeous, powerful, sensitive voice! Obviously this production dates from several years ago, but it is still impressive. I have seen it on another channel with subtitles, but the clean screen is nice, too. Also JDF was very easy on the eyes in those days, and still is.

@@thomaslefrancois765 yes, because listen to his voice now. his vibrato is much too big in his higher register, he sings with too much pressure, the voice is not working very well anymore. Listen to current recordings, it is not a good technique that he has. it is nasal and thin. Listen to the traditional singing tenors like Gigli, Merli and Pertile for one hour, and then listen to Flores again. You should hear the difference.
