    @@joshuafrazier3904 Circe turned them into pigs, but technically speaking, they were still alive, when she could have chosen to eat them or poison them in their sleep. She's the least monstruous of the three justifications Odysseus later uses to turn to the darkside. Well, if we don't count with the sex slave thing. The point is, aside from that detail, she was smart enough to find ways to keep them alive while protecting herself and her people.

    God, I love the loom. Like, yes, this is a thing that Circe would have probably been doing. Even as a goddess and a queen, these are things that even Athena and Penelope would do - weave. And it's a moment of mundanity for the start of this song, like Odysseus has just caught Circe when she was occupied, as opposed to lounging on a throne or something else like that. It's real nice.

    Okay but, the way you draw Circe's expressions >>>>>>> She's clearly bored of Ody from the second he walks in and she doesn't see him as a threat, but she gets nervous when he reveals her magic doesn't work on him. Everyone I've watched draws her as somewhat "flirty" and fun from the beginning, but with your depiction flirting is just a fallback once fighting him proves not to be enough! 💚

    Well it was a stupid bluff and he realized it immediately, no need to lie about it. Even if he wasn't the one uprotting the flower he still got the immunity from it and that was the important part.

  • @jsc1jake512

    @jsc1jake512

    6 ай бұрын

    @@gergelykollar7833 I would argue that the bluff wasn't entirely pointless. The line "I must be a god like you" implies he's trying to get Circe to be more intimidated by him than she was at the beginning. A flower that dulls her magic is one thing, but that and thinking he's a god? That'd be a good advantage. Unfortunately, Circe sees right through him though and her deadpan way of saying it makes it clear that she's entirely convinced that Hermes did, in fact, give him the Moly flower at which point it's worthless to keep trying to trick her.

    Alright, I'll put this here because what people seem to forget is that this story was written by a man... Circe was indeed protecting her Nymphs AND herself. Read the book Circe. It's a retelling of her story and, frankly, the way the author portrays her in there puts this whole song into perspective and makes you think of the countless myths where Nymphs were assaulted because many were as defenseless as normal women.
