What a rare gift, to know that one decision you made set off a cascade of life. Thank you, Hendrik, for finding me and letting me know that my story inspired you to donate. Sending so much love to you, to your recipient, and to both of your families.

You both are amazing, I found this video so touching and warm, the kind of love and warmth humanity is missing nowadays. I'll make sure to donate my skin after I die, as much tissue as I can. Also bones, heart valves and corneas. If my other organs are good to give, I can give them too. I don't accept nor donor blood but I know that in these times the transplantation surgery requires less and less blood. I want the vessel that contained my soul to be useful after my living energy goes back to my creator, and after being helpful, I can donate my body to science or use as many tissues as I can to give. Everybody deserves life.

@@HendrikGerrits what a heartwarming story! And I’m so happy you got to meet the recipient. God bless you both!
Unreal. Had me in tears multiple times. My wife went into kidney failure in her late 20's for no known apparent cause. Her brother stepped up and turned out to be a perfect match! Merry Christmas everyone!
As a dialysis nurse, I'm so glad to see nat geo bring more attention to the immense needs of these patients waiting on kidneys. Dialysis takes over the patients entire life - Fluid, food restrictions, pill burdens, financial/emotional issues. I wish both angels in this story have the most blessed lives.
This morning, I scheduled my surgery to donate my kidney to a stranger on April 29. This was exactly what I needed to see. ❤ Thank you so much.

We couldn't have said it better, Martha.
May i wish him THE BEST
Only due to these kinds of people, the world is still so beautiful. Love you guys, really. Amen
I'm after a transplant from a dead donor. Getting a kidney from a living donor is said to be better. It's a miracle from a stranger. In our country, however, it is not easy at all, but rather discouraging it. Usually the waiting period is 1-2 years (dead donor).
I’m currently in the testing process to be a kidney donor and I couldn’t be more excited!
during the interview, I noticed he was crying (overwhelmed) and I was crying too all over..... such a nice guy. thank you Hendrik.
“I don’t see strangers as strangers anymore” I love that

People that fall victims to organ trafficking cartels in latin america also get to give their organs to complete strangers. Although unintentionally and by force.
Amazing human being. :-)
Hats off
I'm just starting my donation process and this sealed the deal and confirmed to me that this is the journey for me
Amazing!
Go to "Donate Life" and give the greatest gift. I have done this and my body will give other people life and after that, what's left will be cremated.

Interesting
I have a question: is rejection very common among patients who received an organ transplant in early childhood when they grow up, despite using immunosuppressants? In the Oregon family whose three out of five children got heart transplants due to a genetic heart disease (they were heavily publicized a few years ago), the oldest one also found herself rejecting the heart she received at 6 when she became a teenager and had to receive a second transplant. If this is true, doesn't it mean these patients have to receive multiple transplants during their lifetime?
@wouhoulifeisamazing
3 жыл бұрын
Despite advancements in immunosuppression, unless the donor and recipient are HLA identical, a transplant still can't last forever and will end up being rejected no matter what (after about 10 to 15 years but vary wildly depending on the organ and the context). It's because we can't suppress all the immune system without hurting the patient, and the transplant will still be considered foreign. Multiple small episodes of rejection will inevitably lead to chronic rejection. So children who receive a transplant early are more likely to need another one at some point in their life. Older patients may also benefit from immunosenescence (the aging of the immune system) which make them a little less prone to rejection.
