    Omg i thought i was crazy but weights, plates, dumbells etc have become so expensive. 4 years ago i bought 2x 20kg dumbells (with the plates) for 85 euro. Today, from the same reseller and the same product, i paid 95 euros for 2x 10kg. 10 euro more for 20kg less weights. I guess it's because of covid and everyone workout out from home. Most stuff is sold out.

    For heavier dumbbells I can’t recommend the York Pro Style DBs enough... I bought the 105-125lb set before all the COVID craziness and they’re AMAZING. They’ve got a shorter handle with good control, rubberized and round (my preference vs hex) but the grips are what does it for me. I’m definitely loving your setup though for 5-50lbs and appreciate your thoughts on the Ironmaster as I use a lot of DBs with my training. Great video thanks!!

    Great video, thanks for sharing. I am currently building my own gym (corona-time). Most important point is what is said about assembling your DB with weight disk and changing disk during work out, yes, its a cheap option but its so so time consuming, you get tired of this quickly, its just not good it ruin your workout. I think the adjustable weights are great starting point when building a home gym. I got the bowflex 1090, since they cover my weight range better, however the core look awesome, definitely better design than the bowflex, if the core home fitness get available in europe at some point, then i might add them to my my gym, to cover the lower range.

    Just buy a four pack of straps off amazon. Set them up to be a rack to hold the dumbell for ohp or incline press or dumble bench press. Set it to whatever height is your bottom start height and then you are good to go. Costs about $10-15 for a four pack of really strong straps.

    They are awesome dumbbells, perfect for lighter workouts or to go in conjunction with real dumbbells for higher weight. I get a little worried about adjustable dumbbells that go to much heavier weight because if something malfunctions while over head you can really get hurt, plus with heavy weight sometimes you need to drop them after you last heavy set and adjustable dumbbells usually break much easier then real dumbbells so I’d be worried about dropping them. I’m still for it, just want it to be quick and convenient to change weight unlike iron master and also safe for overhead

    That's a nice setup. I went with the Powerblocks, and got annoyed with adder weights to do adjustments in 5 pounds. I ending up selling those, I actually was looking at Core, but someone down my street was moving and want to get rid of his rubber dumbbells so I took them off his hands (5-45lbs in 5lbs increments). Bought a vertical stand, and I'm way happier with them, then the Powerblocks. The vertical stands takes up no more space then the Powerblocks with their stand, but not as convenient as the horizontal stand you, but obviously less space.

  • @MattTolbers

    @MattTolbers

    4 жыл бұрын

    I know exactly what you mean about the adder weights. It’s little things like that, that bug me also and make working out with them not a good experience. That why I love the Core Fitness one because everything about them is convenient and works so well. You definitely upgraded getting real dumbbells over the powerblocks. Now when everything gets back in stock you can get some higher weight dumbbells

    I used to use those spinlock dumbbells in my teens at home. I had forgotten just how annoying they were changing the weights in between exercises. or even worse when they lock really tight and your grip isn't as strong between sets and you are on the floor hunched over a dumbbell using energy whilst trying your best to get the collar off, then realise that you have three more stiff collars to do lol

    Frankly, I have 552s and never noticed any bulky problem with them. They work perfectly fine for majority of my workouts. I'm 6ft tall and 205lbs. Chest press etc no problem, even biceps and triceps workouts. I use them with bowflex bench 5.1s and that one is very good quality too. No sharp edges to place them on my thighs when sitting etc. I can see them being too bulky for my lady. She's 5'-2" and about 120 lbs. If you need a set of dumbell 5-15lbs then buy a seperate one, they are cheap and available everywhere (even walmart). Pink color included. And Core dumbells had a problem with even minor drops, it can break the entire weight-block system and they become useless. Bowflex doesnt recommend dropping either but I did that a number of times and still are perfectly fine. Bowflex has better locking mechanism IMO.

  • @MattTolbers

    @MattTolbers

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yeah if you already have the 552 they will do fine. This is more for people who are looking to buy a set and help them choice which is best for them. The 552 aren’t super bulky like the 1090, but they are bulkier then the core fitness ones which you wouldn’t need to buy the extra 5-15lbs dumbbells for the wife or smaller people. Looking at the dials on all 4 sides and making sure you turn them them to the right weight is just not as quick and convenient, especially for drop sets. I’ve used both and the core home fitness actually seem stronger. If you want something you can toss around definitely get real dumbbells or iron master. I just feel 50lbs and under shouldn’t need to be thrown. I had the Bowflex 5.1 bench and loved it! Only draw back is it’s not meant for heavy lifts just dumbbell work. You got a good setup man, enjoy

I think everyone who can should start building up a home gym now as things come back in stock because you I’m sure some gyms will start closing down and others have less people which will raise prices and so on. I hope not, but the media burned a lot of fear in people so I’m sure it won’t be the same for a good while. Calisthenics is pretty awesome by the way, I played with it for a bit.

    Interesting to see a commitment to the heavy weights AND the core fitness option. I have seen the 75 pound Core Fitness style (nuo flexbell) which looks interesting but I’m not sure the extra savings is worth it for me over an indestructible hex grip option or even a round dumbbell option... the durability is huge of other people will touch your equipment and dumbbells get a lot of love from most gym goers

They also get wobbly, and I've had a plate just slide off from the rest in the past, as well as issues aligning them as I put them back causing plates to get stuck at the wrong angle and need pried off. Finally getting rid of them and upgrading to IronMasters.

    IDK why but I honestly prefer traditional independent dumbbells over adjustable ones. If you're really in a jam with your budget, then I'd go for adjustable of course. I just really like dropping the weights with the independent dumbbells. Feels good ya know what I mean? Especially after a hard set. Plus I like collecting them. It's like having your own dvds over digital download. I think the cons really is limited room or storage for them over adjustable ones and buying a dumbbell rack which I did. Plus it looks cool to have! Also, I'm about to paint the numbers on the dumbbells just to make it pop a bit, and give it a bit more professional look.

    Nice review. With the Covid stuff beggars cant be choosers so I would just take whatevers is available now lol. But personally, I would do the opposite set up from what you have under normal buying conditions - I.e. get HEX rubber dumbbells for the lower weights and then one adjustable dumbbell for the heavier ones. The Powerblock has options that go quite heavier- they are also slower to change weight but not as bad as the ironmaster. The advantage with them is they are also flat on the bottom and more durable then the select a size version of dumbbells like bowflex or the Core ones you bought. But the main reason I would switch up from what you are doing is cost - for the lower weights the difference between have an adjustable 5-50 dumbbell plus stand or just having the full set might be like 300 or so - and those HEX style dumbbells are super durable and will likely last forever. However, the heavier dumbbells are super expensive so you really start saving a ton of money and space. 90 pounds is enough for me so I got the power blocks that change in increments of 10 fast plus a few other dumbbells sizes that are useful to me and my wife (5, 15, 25, 35). The overall cost of this setup was pretty reasonable and overall pretty convenient and durable. The only reason I would do HEX for the larger weights is if they get a lot of abuse (I.e. you are going to be rough with them or expect to drop sometimes).

  • @MattTolbers

    @MattTolbers

    4 жыл бұрын

    If you're going to do that, I'd recommend the Core Fitness Adjustable dumbbells for your 5-50lbs lifts since it's cheaper, takes up less room and basically just as fast to change weight as it is to grab a different dumbbell. Much quicker to change weight, especially in 5lb increments then the powerblocks and they are alot more like real dumbbells and flat on the bottom also. Then use your Powerblocks for your 55-90lbs lifts. Me personally for the heavier lifts where you may need to drop the dumbbell after a lift you want the real dumbbells so they don't break, plus I don't fully trust some of they adjustable dumbbells at heavy weight over my face or head, they could easily malfunction and drop on you. My setup there is not extra weights sitting around like there would be if you have 5-50 lb dumbbels and then also had 5-90lb powerbock. What ever works best for you though brother, just giving my opinion :)
