Great channel and a great review, of the lightbar, I love your honesty, make sure to keep that honesty when you review products given to you by manufacturers

Hope you’re doing well in these times, miss watching your videos and now getting a job at ARB, it’s interesting hearing some actual review/opinions from someone else.

I have a 22 inch combo from Supercheap for $60 dollars and it works a treat. The thing is most people seem to go for lights that go far down the road where you are not really looking anyhow and in your video is a common problem which is that right up to the car down the sides of the road it is still black which is where the animals jump from. Good spots for down the road and small light bars on each side of your bar where the angle points to the side of the road . Just under your headlights so that the light bars create a radius of light out to the sides lighting up the dark edges of the road.

Good god...1000 I bought a 50inch led light bar for 100 on eBay had it for 2 years now no problems...mounts and wiring kit included

i use 4x kings 7" spotlights, ive put cheap yellow/amber film over the covers which makes the light temperature much warmer and nicer on the eyes, also less bounce back off signs

Some of these comments were amusing, I run a set of AR32's and An AR40 bar. Never had an issue with eye fatigue, as I always drive at night with my sunglasses on ;) .

Nice and honest review! We love ARB but 1k$ is an insane price!!! And personaly we have 4 x36watt cheap led light on the roof rack and two 100watt lightforce halogen spots on the bullbar and we prefer the halogen for the same reason!!! Great job!

100% agree. I have the ARB 9" Intensity led spotlights (were on when I brought it) & the reflections when rd driving are insane BUT when in the bush (reflecting of leafy green anything is massive) they truly come to work. Lighting up a track been able to see all obstacles is something that can save you. I wouldn't swap for anything. Seriously solid build 100% H2o proof.

I agree about the light color. I run a cheap light bar and 4) KC Gravity LED lights. I like the warmer color of the KC, but they did cost me $700. USD. Good video!

Ive had a 36’ Sun Yee International lightbar on my 80 for 4 years and its been under water many times hit with rocks and sticks and i cant fault it. $129 bucks delivered. Great products at great prices.

Agree with you Micheal , the white light's are hard on your eye's when driving long distances at night / all night . much better with a yellow light . like the old KC 100w sealed beam .

$1k including mounts. LMFAO!!! I'd rather buy two much cheaper ones plus $700 of diesel for a trip. ARB have lost it.

Thank you for your review. I drive only about 6,000kms on outback roads per month. I have several types of spot and flood lights fitted to the front of my truck, all below the level of the top of my bar work. Regardless of the type, all lights will cause reflective glare. The more lumens you shine, the more that are reflected back. I think that LED light sources can be the most frustrating and more than often, the ones that cause the least amount of fatigue on long trips if used correctly. A reflective sign unless around a corner will not sneak up into your line of sight. If you are a defensive driver, you will change your speed when the conditions change. For me, I turn off my additional lights when I gauge on coming traffic is close enough and just use my factory fitted high beams. My eyes adjust to the different light better than the intensely bright additional light, so my vision can better see potential hazards. I agree that some good lights do have a very high price tag, I also recognise that the investment in good driving lights save in excess insurance claims and pay for themselves after the first miss. Reflective signs are usually a clear indication of potential hazards ahead, so slowing down is often a defensive habit to adopt. Light technology is changing very quickly. Softer light is a great goal if you can find them, but everyone’s eyes are different, and as you get older, your eyes react slower and take longer to adjust to changing conditions. Good driving lights are a cheap form of insurance. No one likes insurance costs until you are called upon to use it.

I personally find the reflected glare of high Kelvin lights to be very fatiguing, more than half of my driving is done at night (shift worker), I also find that when you have the glare off signs and road markers, it obscures anything behind it in darkness by contrast, which is quite dangerous. I agree you need to slow down, but the entire point of aftermarket lighting is to give you more warning of hazards, if the lights make the hazards harder to see, why buy them?

I'm Hearing you on the reflection issue. Agree 100%. Probably gonna get shut down here but I have my lights pointing off the side of the road. I really don't care about the Skippy on the road 2 kms away, he's long gone by the time I get there. It's the one 50m away coming onto the road that is the one that's gonna spoil my night. The down side is reflection off signage.

That sucker was blinding hey, can’t believe how much it lit up your cab with the reflection from the signs. Basically, if they changed the colour of the bar to a warmer colour most of the issue would be sorted. But as you said, the price factor is pretty hard to swallow. Especially when you know what we’ve spent on lights and how they perform. As I’ve said, mechanically for your car always buy the best quality you can, stuff like light bars ect if they fail it’s no big deal, you can still drive home 👍😎

I think the intension is to use them in total darkness off-road, with no signs. But I totally understand you I get the same with my hid I actually added a yellow tint to them because the reflection off the road signs were almost blinding.

I never imagined people used those lights on paved roads with reflective signs, I thought that's what you used when you turned off pavement and were headed into the woods to the campsite/hunt camp/job site.

Bugger the expensive ARB stuff, what do you reckon about the Fyrlyt spotties?

Good honest video , i'm with you , you can have too much light , every time you're high powered light hits a sign in the distance , it is like someone is coming at you with the beams on. My young brother has the cheaper brand similar item with the combo spot and flood , and they are pretty good . I haven't driven his landcruiser on the highway , but i suspect his combo light might also do the reflect back thing off the signs too. you have to find that happy medium .

I have the AR40C (Combo flood and spot), on country roads that I may not know at all, I can turn on the sun in the middle of the night. The increased visibility is a huge safety advantage. Over years or decades even, for me I reckon it is money well spent. I have an ARB swag and absolutely love it. You pay a massive premium for the ARB products, but they DO make basically the best stuff and it's so well designed. But a lightbar is kind of a lightbar, so any cheap brand would probably do, like you said.

And i have a kings big daddy deluxe swag prob cost 1/4 the price of your ARB swag is completely waterproof and as comfy as hell.Brought it 3 years ago & take it on all my camping trips

I had the blue covers on the ARB 32's - they helped a lot with the colours. The lights themselves were great however their mounts failed after a Gibb River trip and they wouldn't cover them under warranty despite redesigning their mounts due to the same fractures I had in the stainless. Will NOT buy another ARB product due to their after sales service and charging $150 for EACH mount that was replaced due to their faulty design.

I’ve noticed that the round ARB led lights have a brightness control. Does this bar not have the option of that? Also when I had a pair of big Lightforce spots I found them to be too bright so fitted green covers which made them much nicer to drive with. Great vid, thanks.

Damn right. Very much agree with you. I myself just got rid of a stupidly expensive 240w led light bar, for the same reason. Was to bright, and too white, which was extremely blinding. Now I Replaced it with just a very cheap set of adventure kings lights, which work a dream. The only thing I will be doing to them, is putting a slight yellow tint on the cover, just to make the light look a lot warmer, making it less blinding,. Definitely, the brighter the light is, doesn’t mean it is better.

Mate. They're good off road where there's no road signs. I have one and agree it's glare from signs is bad. I find brighter lights keep me more awake though.

Well done Michael that was excellent. I too only run 2 Cibi 5 inch ling range D/lights and they work just fine and yes some lights do tire your eyes very quickly with reflection. I really enjoyed the pros and cons thank you

I've always wondered why these light bars don't come with a sharp cutoff as an option, more like a good car headlight. even offroad, do you really need the tree tops lit up? I don't. I suppose if/when enough customers request it, they'll finally figure it out.

Good video Michael. I'm a fellow Sandgroper who's been on the Canning Stock Route three times since 2014 on my Enduro bike and 4wd. I can't see the sense in fitting $1000 spotties or light bars when you're in an environment that will so easily damage them. I use a 120W 5D Cree light bar mounted low in the ARB bullbar in the spot where a winch would go. Cost me $50 on eBay. I use two $50 per item HID 7" driving lights that throw a great beam. The reflector is good and it's well sealed from dust and water ingress. The housing is tough but very light ABS that I reinforced with a rear mount to the top of the bullbar. I also remounted the internal ballasts. The light weight is better on rough roads due to less dynamic load. The corrugations on the CSR are brutal but all lights performed faultlessly with no fatigue breakages ... and I wasn't driving at night on the CSR. The extra lights are for the highway or for emergencies because night travel in the north is risky. Too many animals leaping at you from all directions. For $50 you can carry a spare driving light and spare ballasts/bulbs because they're very cheap. I'm dammed if I'm going onto the CSR with $3000 worth of driving lights. The CREE LED bar gives heaps of light but lacks distance so the two HID driving lights give you the penetration. You don't need anymore than about 500m because the human eye can't see much detail beyond that even in daylight. The ARB light bars still come from China as do nearly all manufactured goods. Michael I must be a sucker for punishment because I'll be on the CSR twice this year. I'm doing the full 1850km/820 sand dunes/four deserts from Wiluna to Wolfe Creek Crater in August on my KTM Enduro bike. A friend will be driving my Navara providing support. In April I'm doing Well 24 to Well 9 in my Navara supporting a another fella who will be on an enduro bike. It's an epic off road adventure but requires planning. The country is beautiful and so vast. From my experience 4wd's suffer failures due to: too much weight, traveling too fast and tyre pressures too high. I run the original standard light truck tyres 205R16 at 20psi hot and it climbs the dunes like a camel. I've only had one puncture in three expeditions. I made this short highlights video of our enduro ride last July from Wiluna to Well 23. I'm the good looking bloke in the red/blue enduro pants and black body armour. I rarely have my helmet off because I didn't want to be seen with helmet hair. kzread.info/dash/bejne/p2RqzJelebbRlqg.html Fuel consumption for my Navara was 14.5L per 100km and the 79 series V8 Landcruiser tray back 18L per 100km. You need enough fuel to travel 1000km which is the longest stretch from Wiluna to Well 33. About 150km per day is not a bad budget to work to. Some days will be a bit more and some a bit less depending on the terrain.

I forgot to say I left Wiluna with a full tank (80 litres) and 6 x 20 litre plastic jerries. At 14.5 l per 100km I'd use about 150 litres to do the 1000km to Well 33 but you must carry spare fuel in case you split a jerry. Fuel at the Well 33 community is about $4.00 per litre! I'm wary about long range tanks because some people have had leaks and lost their fuel. It's too dangerous out there to run out of anything.

The white light is a problem but I have fitted a yellow tinted clip on to my LED unit, what a difference .

Agree with you, leds are too white,too much glare. Fyrlites onthe other hand awsome, had them for years. Best driving lights ever.

Great review Michael. You probably won’t be ARB’s favourite customer, but it’s an honest review. I’ve never really been a fan of ARB products, I found them to be overpriced when compared to other reputable brands. I did have have a pair of IPF Extreme lights for a while but they again were overpriced for what they were. I bought a 30 inch STEDI milspec lightbar around 5 years ago and it’s still going strong. They have a huge range of light bars I had a Kings for a week before chucking it under the bench,it was hopeless. I looked at the FyrLyte but settled on LightForce 50w HID. The only issue with them is the mounting system. They don’t like vibration and it’s difficult to keep them focused off road. Again great review.

Another great vid. I have the original Kings Osram LEDs 1/4 the price of others, probably less now, as bright as any light I’ve seen but same thing, signs are very bright, very white light etc. The other problem is that on windy country roads I can no longer see the headlights of oncoming vehicles approaching to dip mine in anticipation. Consequently, they get blinded when they appear, I nearly fly off the road going for the low beams and truckies are only too happy to give it back with interest. Anyone else?

Look for a 1/4 CTO tungsten gel. We use them in the photography industry. Basically a heat proof piece of cellophane which will bring the color temp down if you can find a way to place it in front of the light.

Hmmm, another happy fyrlyt customer, been thinking about these for a while.

I'm very happy with mine - far better than the LED light bars I took off.

I got two 7 inch spotties and a 23 inch light bar and harness for $160 at Aldi. I'm happy

I can buy a car for $1000 The Mrs just went to Bali (Flights and Accom for 10 days) $400 A tiny light bar for $1000..... Tell him he's dreaming

I run the Solis spots and the V2 and the V2 does work nicely. Makes the Frontrunner bar in my roof rack look like Ambiant mood lighting in comparison. I would not say it is not worth the money as the combination I run is brilliant.

I can say after owning one these for 3years I have same thoughts looks and works really well. But the colour temp and the way it reflect signs back at you is blinding. Also they are made in China so don't believe for a second they are Australian or American assembled cause mine faded and the indestructible polycarbonate cover disintegrated in the sun went yellow and flaked in the first year. But the warranty is 2 or 3 years so ARB replaced the cover.

@@gailwatson9653 maybe the first few were manufactured in America. But mine clearly said made in China. I bought and had it installed with ARB. They were surprised to but it's not uncommon for products to be made in China. The first run of a product is usually designed and manufactured here and then mass produced overseas.

LED's are very much the mainstream thing these days, good to know there are a few that have seen the light! I wish I came across them 6 years ago, hands down the best driving lights I have ever had. Good to know they have lasted you that long! 🙂👍

Good review, just quoted $1300 for ARB lightbar, I find it that ARB hit you with everything seperate like screws & bolts To add to the cost.

Yep totally agree with this review, high colour temperature lights for driving aren't as good as people make out ... It tricks the brain into thinking it must be brighter because of the whiter looking light. Manufacturers such as ARB have jumped on it because they sell more lights. It's a complete gimmick people! High quality and lower colour temperature lights such as the Fyrlyts are a far better option. For that bit extra when you're away from road signs, led light bars as an additional light fill in the gaps out wide work okay but best if they're switch separate from your Fyrlyts. And yeah ARB do have some great products but they also have some complete crap.

Very few will talk the truth like you ... keep it up ....!!!

I got a cheap as chips 20 inch lightbar off eBay, been going strong for a few years now. Might not have the distance of the expensive brands, but I honestly don't care what's a kilometre away down the highway. I'm more interested in those bloody kangaroos flying in from the sides 100m ahead of me! Cheers for the review

Coming from Canada Where Running the Light bar on the road is Illegal my review on this would be geared more toward using it on trails/ offroad. Would love to see your review of the ARB light bar on a trail where there are no Signs that are blinding you. Should maybe have a set of lights for road driving and a bright set for trail driving.

In oz our light laws are pretty lax imo , Unless you piss a copper off for some reason , you are unlikely to get pinged , Even replacing headlight globes with super bright ones non legal ones , generally coppers couldn't give a toss . Australia is a weird place , in other areas they will crucify you for the slightest infringement 😁.

Where are the mounts from and do thay work on stedi light bars ?

Couldn't agree more - I got rid of all my LED light bars and fitted the FYRLYT 9000 instead. Far better!!! LED lights are way too white and they wash out all the colours - it's actually harder to see roos and as for mist or dust, forget any depth of vision....

I installed hid bixenon projectors on my daily and I am most definitely installing them on my 4wd. They are insane daylight makers. If any of the offroad guys would properly retrofit their headlight they wouldn't need all those led bars. Hids blow LEDs out of the water.

for your driving lights run light blue filters it made a huge diffrence on the roadtrain after dark and for camp don't tell any one go green don't waste ya time with warm white do the test bugs not like green

I have this light and you can buy defuses for the light to change the color to suit you eyes and what your comfort leave is, but saying that l would not buy it again if it broke as theier to much money the E-cheap light bars you get on ebay are ok most of the time.

Hey mate pull it apart and change the LED to a warm white high CRI LED . You can get LED in every tint common tints would be from 2800k-10000k best option would would be around 4500-5000k you get the best mix between output and colour plus you still have the option of going high CRI. Light bars are built down to a price point some better than others generally i would look for light bars using 10w LEDs preferably Cree branded. These light bars will most likely be using XML2 in a cold white 6500k its a cold tint but not blue by any means. You may also find option using Nichia LED these will be high CRI in warmer tints. The use of many smaller LED can be more efficient if using an efficient LED to begin with most times manufacturers use cheaper LEDs so the whole setup sucks. Also you could paint the top black as to eliminate glare. Main issue is people only want to see lumens so manufacturers will continue to use these cold white LEDs because they give the most output from the least energy/price big lumens sell but pointless if you don't or can't use it.

Where do you get lower temp LEDs though? I'd love to try that out - I've got 3400 Hz HID bulbs in my headlights and they are excellent - much better than the 6000 Hz LEDs.....

$1000 for a small light bar, crazy. I bought a 42" LB from 4wd supacentre on clearance for $49 granted it won't land as long but I could of bought 20 of them for the price of this.

it most likely will last just as long, its probably from the same factory and has the same LEDS, these 4WD accessory places just buy and rebrand chinese stuff from the same factory, honest to god these lights probably cost them $20 to make, $800??? that is an INSANE markup holy lord

So I do approx. 100,000 km's p/yr in some of the darkest, blackest voids on earth that you have ever seen, I run the Big red 78 x 3w 18200 Lumen combo & the ARB Bush Ranger Spot light bar. I'm lighting up the road & hitting signs north of 1.2km's in fringe of me, i am am so relaxed when I have everything on and lit up in front of me , its when I don't / can't have them on that i get tired because I am struggling to see clearly, the amount of times that my lights have saved me I hav3 lost count of but lets just say that they have paid from them selves many times over.. Yes I agree that that reflected signage light can be a bit much at times but if that is the only draw back of having plenty of safe light, I will take that every day & twice in Sundays.😊

@@SeekAdventure mate you have my job tomorrow if you want, travelling by your self, working by your self, eating by your self, sleeping by your self & staying by your self some times not seeing, talking to eating with or drinking with another human for any thing from days to weeks at a time. Its a very lonely existence, the job is very mentally, physically & emotionally challenging some times working 16 to 18 hr days and 20hr days are not uncommon, no public holidays, working 6 days a week after 25 years in done.

FyrLyt have good research on the colour/temperature of LED lights. Interesting and well thought through product. Not LED by the way, so easier on the eyes on reflective signs...

The ARB light bar the red surround will oxidise and fade very quickly I have a set of Drive lights they are faded after three months in the sun and peeling people say having a cover over it will help it from oxidising and peeling But I’m afraid someone will steal them

Beam important to make where the spot you want to see actually...

Maybe it was too bright because you were testing the ‘spot’ light bar instead of the ‘combo’ light bar?

Just can't find any decent video footage of the arb light bar. Saw 2 videos but didn't seem impressive with the video quality. I saw one video with a Stedi light bar and that was impressive. But reserching because I may be buying the arb v2 combination light bar.

You speak of driving on the road but I'm sure this light mainly design form offroad use where you need good lighting

With those LED's you gotta aim them downwards more so that they aren't lighting up signs on the road. :p

Denis, they are adjustable. There's a fitting on the back - you can turn it from spread to spot in 10 seconds.

Yeah not sure on fyrlrt, 250w globs! That's a lot of amp draw. Plus being so yellow they I find it hard to see detail. Baja lights I think are the way to go, compared to the rigid design (arb) they are warmer.

I guess you could say that the ARB lights are too... Intense. 😎

Halogen is much nicer for interior and driving lights. LED strains the eyes and also have a high flicker rate it's not a good thing health wise.

Good review. I have one that looks just like that from Amazon.ca for $99.99. (Probably a knock-off) but it works great!

"To white and to bright", is probably going to attract certain people to this product. Normally, that's what people are looking for, when buying a light bar. "The whitest and the brightest bang for your buck." No doubt the quality of that ARB light is very good, but the price is ridiculous. An excellent review Michael. I love your channel.

Yep amber / yellow lenses are not offered by many LED companies , 6000K is pure evil on human eyeballs .. speaking from experience I moved my ridged industries & Baja Designs LEDs to yellow and its fabulous in fog, dust and generally all round. I still one of the best LEDs on the market is Baja Design LP9 !!!

Check Stedi lights, they are amazing.

If ARB so good why don’t they offer warranty more than 3yrs, Stedi Australian owned offer 5yrs on there lights, and specs look better than overpriced ARB lights.

Your spotties are halogen bulb thats why has little glare. And the arb light bar is Led.. maybe compare the arb with stedi led light. 👍

No bullbars sold or supplied new in Europe now! What would you hang it on?

@@EvantsStudio Legal as long as it's not wired into your high beams, anything above the headlights is offroad use only. It's a pain having different laws in every state.

I think all light bars or spotties give intense glare back off signs, but honestly like the white light over the warm yellow. Personally preference I guess. The spotties in your video looked crap IMO, but maybe just because I like the intense white light... 🤷🏽‍♂️ Price is epic and not value for money compared to lots of similar quality and features. That’s the deal breaker IMO and the colour of light is personally preference

couldn't agree more. spend good money where it counts, on the bullbar itself. and just get a Stedi light bar. or Kings spotties / light bars. Stedi is becoming more overpriced so Kings will take over eventually.

$1k for light bar? That's old school pricing. There are soooo many choices now that are a fraction of the cost of those lights but are not a fraction of the quality. Even if those only last 5yrs each, it's still far far cheaper than those ARB light bar.

The blue in the leds will ruin your eye sight... ever notice how many young kids are wearing glasses? They add blue to make them super white. Same with paint, if you want a really white paint, add some blue.

Crazy price!! $1000!!

Not trying to be funny... Being a city guy. Can you do a video describing how one would tend to toileting? Let's say a few days trip.

Heard this about some of their other LED products. They look great, but mediocre performance. I went with rigid industries.

All arb's intensity lights are made by Rigid Industries but to arb's design specs, they're a good quality light. But I've looked at some of the Rigid combo light bars too and they do look pretty good. I've never heard of a Rigid Industries light losing an led like some of the cheaper lights out there.

I run Rigid Industries, SRQ2 went black from water ingress. Replaced under warranty. The e2 20inch driving light lost a row of LEDs (1/4 of them) again warranty replaced years later. Bloody good lights but shouldn't be failing like this. The e2 was replaced with the new 'Pro' series. Much prefer the older e2.

@@moto4x4adventure9 Interesting to hear that, I've got a mate in Darwin who swears by the Rigid lights, he's had cheaper light bars and they kept loosing led's from the hot conditions so he decided to spend more and get a better light. He's never had a problem with the Rigid bars and loves their performance. Hopefully you don't have any more trouble with them and it was just an issue with the first two, the E2 combo performance is pretty impressive for a 20 inch bar.

I got my first set of LED lights last year, Baja Design’s and I love them, they have a lower light intensity 5000k compared to most others at 6000k+, but honestly the lights have a super silky smooth spread of light that’s easy on the eyes, have a lifetime warranty, made in USA and have replaceable optics/bezels etc. there expensive, but there that good I just ordered another set for the roof

The Kings fan club will be all over this video. Lol

@@Phil_McAvity I'm far from a "povo feral" mate but the fact of the matter is, you can buy an ARB lightbar for $1k or a kings lightbar for $100. I can tell you an ARB light bar isn't 10x better as the price says it should be. I love kings gear. Not that I can't afford the big brands, I just don't see the point in pouring heaps of cash into something when you can get it for 1/10 of the price and it does (pretty well) the same job. In my opinion it's the big brand snobs who are worse than the "kings fan club" for putting everyone down who buys kings gear

@@Phil_McAvity I think you may have missed my point mate. I'm saying you can't justify the price of the ARB light bar when a kings one does the same job. I've had a set of kings spotlights and light bar for 4 years and they've worked hard the whole time.

Lachlan Ascott I have these “discussions” with Kings fan-boys daily. You think I’m stupid for buying expensive branded gear and I think you’re stupid for buying cheap Kings gear. One thing we do have in common is we both love 4wding & camping. So let’s say live and let live.... you live with your cheap stuff and I’ll live with my expensive stuff.
