Don't wake the baby! Min Pin guards baby.

Recent picture of us ^_^ 7/26/13: goo.gl/yzyR4w
Update: 9/10/11 Remy passed quietly away in his sleep at 6am this morning. I am forever grateful to have shared my family with such a kind and loving being. 4/26/05 - 9/10/11 I miss you already Remy.
9/07/11 Update: Remy had a checkup on the 5th and everything seemed to be going well, today Remy had a huge setback and had fainting episodes and a very blue tongue due to severe breathing problems and lack of oxygen his diuretics were increased, that has helped. It is so hard to accept that he is getting worse.
Why do we become so attached to another creature with such a short lifespan?
They love us so unconditionally, we willingly fall in love just to be wrecked when they pass. I almost lost him today, and I know am not ready to let go.
6/10/11 Update: Today Remy was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure, at 6yrs old Remy should be in the prime of his life I cannot imagine my family without him.
Remy says "let the baby sleep!" Dj, was 7 weeks old here :)
(There have been a few comments about the sounds that Dj is making .... actually Remy is making the strange sounds. Delilah is barking in the background)

I am so sorry for your loss. I know this is a late port. I can't bare the thought of losing any of my 3 min pins. My sister was told her dog has inoperable cancer of the heart and liver. She's a lot stronger then I. I would be none stop crying, and I have been a paramedic for nearly 40 years. You'd think it wouldn't bother me. People usually don't, that's what I'm trained for, but kids and pets, especially small ones they get under your skin and stay there until you cry it all out. I hope time has helped you and your family.

When a dog hovers over something, its claiming it as the owner, whether be food, a toy or baby. That means the dog is alpha in its family, and you and the kids are subordinates. Also means, the dog can bite the baby when he feels like it, because it belongs to him, and you are not allowed to touch his possessions, hence the growling. Big mistake owners make is humanizing the dog (as well as being beta). Dog language is different than people. He isnt saying" Dont wake the baby." hes saying "This is mine, dont touch or I will bite."

***** Some owners are so dense to not pick up growling as a warning sign. Laying on top of the baby, eyes bulging out, ears flat, growling, this is all possessive behavior. Dogs have different needs and language people should respect. Just because its cute, doesnt mean its not being serious. For example, looking at someone in the eyes while talking is a sign of respect, to dogs, eye contact is threatening and taken as a challenge.

I have a mini pin and she’s gentle and loving but very protective of us. She’s never bitten anyone but I don’t trust her with our grandchildren. She’s never growled or acted aggressive but she’s very territorial and what’s hers is hers and she doesn’t want anyone touching it. Even though ours is well trained and seems to enjoy kids I wouldn’t trust her or any other dog until the baby was older. It looks sweet and it looks like she thinks the baby is hers. That’s when they can become aggressive!

The dog can easily out of frustration with you trying to wake the baby, can chomp on the blanket or even the baby. I wouldn't let my min pin guard my child like that. I'm the mom, the owner. Neither of my dogs would even think about growling at me, my husband, my kids, or my grandkids. They are BELOVED, but they know their place in the pack. We never allow aggression (and this is definitely possessive behavior that will escalate to aggression) to even start; puppies are well socialized and have good manners by the time they get to their new families. I'm so sorry that Remy has passed, but I also hope that you educate yourself more about dog behavior before you get another dog. My brother had a min pin. For years. This is not really protective behavior, it is POSSESSIVE behavior. He is showing the bay is HIS which means everyone else in the house is his subordinate. He is the boss. This is not a good attitude for a dog to have, especially with an infant in the home. Unfortunately the owners show approval by laughing like it;s cute. My brother did the same thing. He adored his dog but sadly just about everyone else thought it was one of the most obnoxious animals they had ever met. He encouraged it's growling by laughing like it was cute. Then of course the dog got nippy, very early on, never bit anyone hard but nipped and snapped quite a few people. Luckily only people my brother knew and who were family and / or friends. Little dogs get this attitude by acting tough and their owners show approval. It is a terrible, stupid thing to do and shows very poor understanding of the breed and dogs in general. Behavior like this in ANY dog must be "nipped" in the bud immediately. My brother loved his dog and I am sure these people loved their dog. And I am sure in many ways it was a sweet dog. But I would hate to see anyone watch this video and think it's cute and then when their dog does the same thing to encourage THEIR dog as well. Love your dogs, but be in CONTROL of your dogs. If they are the ones in control, you've got a problem.

he is not showing possessive behavior, and he is not the boss, the woman had no problem touching the baby several times and the dog showed no signs of aggressive behavior, had he been the ''boss'' she would not have gotten anyplace near the baby, take a dog that is food or toy possive and try and take the toy from them and see what happens,

Your completley right Rebecca this woman doesnt understand what signals the dog is giving out. Half the posts on here show complete ignorance to what the dog is doing. Plus wtf is she doing letting a dog near her baby...

I think you are right and the owners need to get that dog to back off. Mom is not being aggressive to the baby so the dog has nothing to protect against. This dog thinks the baby is HIS. He is not saying, "Don't hurt the baby." The dog's attitude is "get away from MY baby!"

everyone min pin is not the same. not because yours was unruly means every other min pin is unruly once it growls or make funny noises. mines is very playful with everyone. no matter who they are. when you grow them with love, they grow loving everyone, but u hit them or punish them, they will grow with hate.

It is never in any way acceptable to allow a dog to go into an aggressive state of mind around a newborn baby. This dog is NOT protecting the child. It is guarding a resource that it thinks it owns. Allowing this state of mind in any dog is dangerous. It is highly possible that a dog in this aggressive state of mind could easily redirect and bite this baby if it moved suddenly. This is unbalanced and psychologically damaging behavior to this dog not to mention the lack of common sense endangering a child. Please DO NOT get another dog unless you educate yourself in dog psychology. You are sadly misinformed and frankly the comments of "cute" and "funny" in this section are alarmingly ignorant.

Taking the dogs tail and cutting their ears for optical purposes should be punished with a jail sentence, why do almost all americans do that to their dogs? It doesnt even look good, dogs need their tails and ears whole. and yes, by that way i say this is animal cruelty. be ashamed of yourself!

I did notice it was odd that the baby was sleeping on it's stomach but this video was probably done before the whole "back to sleep" theory came about. It may scare you because you don't know the dog personally. I'm sure the owner knew the dog well enough. I have one dog that I could do this with but not the other one.

So typical of a min pin, so protective. Sorry for your loss, we've had 3, all from rescue services. Still have one and he's a joy. King of the toy dogs but they're not for most people, Those who see animals as mindless creatures can't grasp how intelligent these little guys are. I've had large breeds and every min pin has had more "Personality" than most large ones I've known.

This particular video has always been a fave of mine because Remy looks like my Tipsy did. Tipsy passed 6/20 12 years of being my best friend. Today is the first time I have watched your video since she passed, and did so to share with a friend and to hear rose same sounds Remy made that only my Tipsy seemed to be able to make. Today I smiled because of it. Ty Dogs are everything that God wishes man could be

Yeah my ex had 3 min pins. They are all great dogs. One of them was named cooper who looks like remy. I was just sitting and he jumped on me and put his head on my chest. Very loving dogs. One was a rescue from a puppy mill and the last one is awesome. Very energetic and playful. Actually all of them are playful. I love how they love to be under blankets.
