I think KUM brand invented those! Also they have a patent on using a slightly curved blade that is screwed into place, and that tension makes it apply pressure evenly on the pencil, so it sharpens smoother. I don’t know if it actually makes a difference but they invented the two point system and are cheaper, imo it’s only logical to buy theirs

People just don't know how to use the small silver/metal sharpeners. It just takes the right technique. Keep the pencil comfortably flush up against the surface opposite the blade through the whole twisting action. Pay attention to not over sharpen. It works perfect. Often when you sharpen a pencil and the tip keeps falling off it is because the pencil was dropped and the core has shattered. That pencil is defective.

Didn't realize people used sharpeners for pencils. I use a knife. The sharpener is for getting a fire going

Blackwing sharpeners are fantastic!!! Amazingly good. I additionally have the Mobius & Rupert brass sharpeners, which are also very well made and efficient. I have an enormous collection as both an artist, writer, and researcher. I use sharpeners a lot, despite my love of mechanical pencils. I have sharpeners dating back to the late 1800s. The Japanese Holbien T'Gaal adjustable sharpeners are great, or the Nitram sharpening blocks, and good old fashioned kn*ves. I have used plain sanding paper, emery boards, kn*ves and X-acto bl@des. 😊😊😊 In addition to my own collection when I began when I was almost five (necessitated by my father's need to actually keep a sharpeners as he made accusations stating that I alledgedly "stole" his sharpeners to divide amongst grandfather and myself) I also have inherited quite the collection, one of which I added on to for decades in addition to my father and myself, and unfortunately, it became mine when my grandfather passed away in 2013.

There are a few things that can cause that! First, make sure your pencils are from a brand that you can trust to have good cores. Next, make sure you or the store you're buying from isn't bashing the pencils around in carrying or shipping (as much as you can). And finally, it might just be your sharpener or sharpening method. Make sure that the sharpening is happening smoothly and not twisting or breaking the core. If it's happening that often with the same sharpener, try another. Those are the typical points where issues come up. Good luck with it!

Kum makes a sharpener does this exact same sharpener lettering on the plastic cover and all? It just doesn't have a black cover that says black wing. It's red and I paid like less than $10 for it

Also I use the electric sharpener not these boring menu surfinders what kind of AI use one but I also use my menu firmware which is way cooler than what this black linen sharpener I don't use those black and sharp and there's any more than even the ones that you don't even use anymore
