As long as Vietnam is still ruled by the oppressive and exploitive Communist regime, her potential remains greatly diminished. For any 1% that wants to stay, 99% of the population wants to get out, and many have risked their lives doing just that (for example, 39 doomed lives found in UK container truck recently on the news, and that's only what's been reported), unfortunately. Yet another shocking and also recent example is that during the Covid pandemic when almost all countries assisted their citizens with financial aids in one form or another, the corrupt and murderous Vietnamese Commie regime saw it just another opportunity not to help but to exploit its ruled citizens even more, essentially making money over the corpses of its citizens by presumably killing at least 30K of them, due to misdiagnosis and being and cramped into barbwired unhygenic living quarters for isolations, so that they had to sleep on the concrete floors, with inadequate food, water, or medicine, like animals, with the fake nostril Covid test kits, mislabeled as approved by World Health Organization (WHO) in Việt Á scandal, colluded by at least 4 different government agencies (Y Tế , Khoa Học, Công Nghệ, Quân y) and the top Politburo members, including Nguyễn Phú Trọng, Phạm Minh Chính, Nguyễn Xuân Phúc. Murderous Vietnamese Commie regime even had a thug murdered Christian pastor Giuse Trần Ngọc Thanh, like it has done with many other pastors across the nation. There is a reason why the current Commie Vietnam ranks at the bottom of the world in freedom of speech and freedom of the press, barely above Commie China and Commie North Korea. Similarly, its passport ranks at the bottom, 89th out of 111 countries for a reason, barely above North Koea 104th rank. even below many African nations. For comparison, South Korea 2nd rank. That's what Republic of South Vietnam would have likely been ranked among at least the top 10 had it not been invaded and occupied by the North Vietnamese Commie terrorists, aided by Commie Soviet and Commie China. Travelers to Vietnam in her current form (not at all like this before the Communists took over) should keep this in mind. Behind the beauty of the land and smiling faces at popular tourist destinations, there are a lot of darkness and sorrow, horror, and sufferings all over the country.

Whenever you eat Vietnamese food that is served or dipped in fishsauce, the fishsauce actually is the "MAIN" flavor. It does not matter whether you eat "banh xeo" or "banh khot" or "banh cuon" etc..., if the fishsauce is not good, the dish is not good. And each of the fishsauce for each of the dishes is mixed differently.

Hello Chase and Shelb. Thank you for your videos. I just came across this video. Sorry if someone has already commented on the mini potato-like root you were eating as part of your food tour, but i just found out they're called dwarf tubers. By the look and your description of the texture, they remind me of sunchokes/Jeruselem artichoke. They're supposed to be good to keep one from dehydration.

Regarding Pho... It comes from a very well done French dish called Pot au Feu, which translate to Pot of fire. It's a french meat stew usually cooked over fire with beef bones etc. So the french came to Indochina and that dish translated over time to Pho. :)

Your best food tour ever. Would I get on those bikes? Do I have a choice? I think it's half the fun. Having gone to Indochine in NYC so many times, I have an inkling how Vietnamese food usually tastes. I think it is my favorite cuisine, next to Filipino food.

Thank you! I believe they offer a walking tour as well, but we chose to do the bikes ☺️ We love how fresh Vietnamese food is! So many herbs and different flavour combinations. We can’t forget filipino food too.. it’s all so tasty!! 😍

Hello from Zürich, CH. Thanks for the fun videos! Yeah, it's POT AU FEU in French haha...Yes, lots of French influence from Vietnamese borrowed words (and Chinese) to food not to mentioned architectures...Old folks still can speak French fluently...My French husband's ancestors were in Vietnam. Food and the price cannot compared to here - have you been to Switzerland? It's 2-3x the price of the USA even except for toilet papers and milk.

That was top 5 one of the best food tours I've seen as far as the whole experience and the variety of stuff shown...but no dessert at the end? What?!? LOL! I loved the food tour guides that "Note and Flora" and MomDuty used in Hanoi as well as the one "Steph and Pete" used in Hoi An as well. All the guides were great. But now that you're tasted snails...you've got to go eat at the real snail restaurants on snail street. You'll love Vietnamese snails/seafood at the snail restaurants. Vietnamese people will probably help Westerners overcome snails and liver (via pate) with the magic they do to those ingredients.

Vietnamese don't really do desert, as in our deserts are quite boring. You probably notice that these s.e asian tours never really focus on deserts.

Thank you! So the main reason we booked a tour was because we know there is sooooo much incredible local foods to try! But in vietnam there isn’t really any English written on alot of the local street vendors or shops so we tend to not know what it is/what we are about to eat. We wanted a guide to help us understand new foods and also teach us things we didn’t. It was so worth it! We prefer mostly going out to eat on our own though, in vietnam it’s just a little harder for us.☺️
