Gives you a real good idea as to how bricks and minifigs store locations and employees are all just scalpers. Please never buy from these stores, do whatever it takes for them to go out of business because they have zero interest in LEGO and are only there to give the bare minimum to try and reap the most reward. Its all just a scalper company designed to look like something else

@@jordanyoung6604 Not really, while an indentured servant usually isn't that much different from slavery in the way they are treated and limitations on their freedom and rights, the biggest difference is the timed contract that governs how long one stays a servant. There is at least a guarantee of freedom once this contract is fulfilled, the same can't be said of slaves .

Yes the starship is the “Firespray” however that’s like calling Bumblebee from transformers “The Camero” its not trying to be “technical” it’s called The Slave 1. And yes there are people saying “why do you care what it’s called? It’s just a product/toy” And true. Though you have to realize the reason why it was removed was to be more politically correct. Ask Disney, they said so. And while I’m not saying everyone should just go around saying derogatory words like it was the 1800s again, there is a line between making something that doesn’t offend, and censorship. This is a well known issue with brown and gold plastics in the transformers community it’s called “gold plastic syndrome” it was due to the dyes that where used for brown or gold coloring over time it causes the plastic to breakdown faster

Brittle Gold bricks were still a problem in legos or at least fairly recently, ie Disney Princess Friends sets

Part of your problem is UV light Exposure. This causes the plastic to degrade. It's exactly Gold Plastic Syndrome, but with the brown color making it harder to spot. Anything in display will degrade to an extend depending on the type of plastic. To prevent gradually plastic decline you either get display cases with a UV filtering film applies or get windows with the Low-e/Argon combination.

I have problems with Jango Fett’s version of Slave 1 from 2002. It easily falls apart when you grab it. I had it stored safely for 20 yrs where it would get damaged and when my daughter turned 21 (she was born in 2002 when it came out) I showed it to her and we built the newer Boba Fett ship (before they got rid of the “Slave I” name) and looked to see the difference in 20 years of design. How more secure Boba’s ship is compared to Jango’s ship.

They should have heavily discounted that set

Lime Joint Syndrome too (Bionicles with lime socket joints in 2007 had this problem, then they redesigned the sockets in 08, but made them too tight iirc and they all became brittle

During the 2010s Lego transitioned from ordering their pre-colored plastic granules to buying plain white granules and coloring it them selves. The brown coloring (and many other colors) however has made the plastic rigid and easy to snap, that's why many pieces broke from that time period. Any lego produced between 2009-2017 has a more likelihood of breaking/snapping.

Ugh, this explains why some sets I was finally assembling last night were making scary noises and felt funny. They were from 2016 & 2017. I thought I was crazy. Maybe not. 😢

I have one of those old MTT sets, I have no issue with any of the parts other than ones I broke by using them as a hammer *edit* for clarification the parts that broke were in fact NOT the brown ones, the ones I broke were the grey support struts

The reddish brown pieces were weaker and more fragile than regular bricks because of the dye used for the coloring

I have that ship...and it hasn't broken even after falling thrice.ive found the maroon pieces of the arc starfighter to be more brittle.

it wasn't 'back in' that they were weak. It's that after a few years the pieces became far more solid and fragile, leading to them snapping both easily and lacking the flexibility to actually cope with the strain caused in placing or removing, leading to a lot of the pieces snapping both easily and often in general wear and tear. Though with the sets themselves lego rarely leaves bricks under enough strain to break the pieces. So sets constructed are typically safe but sets still in the box or outright disassembling one is likely to break it in the process of using it. Lego replace these parts for free btw.

The combination of age plus sunlight/heat affects them but even then, they can still last and hold well against playwear or touch. I got sets from as far as 2000 and they're as sturdy as when I bought them as a kid.

Sets prior to 2009 actually weren’t affected by this. I’ve bought 2 new MTTs and one used and never have had a part break on those. The affected sets were from 09-16, RIP to my UCS Sandcrawler.

So I worked for the Lego Store for a while, and I actually have an answer; The brown and maroon red pigments did something chemically weird to the ABS LEGO was using, and it caused it to become brittle. The pigments have since been changed, so this doesn't happen anymore.

WHAT??? I had that same fett ship and same droid carrier but I had no idea they were so breakable! They’re still at my parents place, but DAMN I can’t believe I played with them so much and never broke anything. Not like my wayyy old tie fighter. That was so simple to put back together, the most common way I played with it was to throw it against the wall or at an angle so it would roll on the ground and come apart- because it exploded.

The ship is called Slave 1. I hate that they changed it because the word slave could be triggering. You do know no one alive in the US right now has been or knows someone who has been a slave.

The bribble parts are the darkest times to deal with. Here's the list for toys like this us collection to look after. - Clear Transparent Plastic. For Transformers modern toys.. -Red/Brown Plastic from 2000s Era. - Green Lime during Mahri Line. - Golden Plastic Syndrome. There are some, back then is infamous. But no longer carries in toy forms.

Firespray is the type of ship it is, so that’s a fairly valid name for it. However, I’d say it’s a 50/50 shot that the average Star Wars fan knows that Slave I is the name of Bobas ship, and a lot less likely that a Lego fan does. Firespray is the type of ship it is, so that’s a fairly valid name for it. However, I’d say it’s a 50/50 shot that the average Star Wars fan knows that Slave I is the name of Bobas ship, and a lot less likely that a Lego fan does. Honestly, I'd say the Slave 1 is iconic enough that most star wars fans would recognize the name period. It definitely reads as a dumb retcon for the sake of being pc now that they changed the name though.

I had this set but could never put it together as a kid.

No wonder I gave up on my LEGO sets

There is a similar issue with dark red pieces from that period. I´ve been wanting to wash and de-yellow my V19 starfighter for a while but I´m afraid to take it apart.

How are the brown pieces brittle? Ive had the slave 1 pieces since it's release and those things have gone through hell with my neqhew and still remained in one piece.

It was mainly due to the dyes that LEGO used. They fixed it, but now brown pieces have a terrible reputation.

I think a lot of toys from that era had an issue with their gold and brown pieces. I know it's really prevalent with old transformers toys as well.

I have an old Slave 1. (That's the name of Boba Fett's ship, don't have an aneurism).

The reason why those brown and dark red pieces are so brittle is because they were trying a new dye and that dye wouldn’t bond correctly and instead chemically made the pieces super brittle

Didn't know that LEGO could flex that much.

I bought Metalbeards SeaCow for around 4-500 on Amazon cause I loved the design and look. Little did I know that every brown piece was so brittle, and 90% of it was brown. I have barely touched it since, and I'm so glad Lego addressed this and fixed it.

I am not that deep into the Lego game. But if they are that fragile, why not rebuy the newer version of the fragile pieces? I mean you would still have the same set, but then it would at least be tough enough to lift or clean once in a while.

@@isaacb725 I have and if that’s something important to you I can understand that. That’s the reason I said I am not to deep into this. If retaining even the original pieces is important that’s fine. I just thought sometimes even an oldtimer car has new pieces in it and it’s still an oldtimer car. There using new parts can sometimes be inevitable.
