As for _Brake a leg_ we have in German a very similar idiom for wishing someone luck in a likewise contorted and oblique way. Maybe this derives from the thespians' superstition too? We wish them _Hals- und Beinbruch_ which translates to _Brake the neck and a leg_ . So we even top your (mal)wishes.

The German counterpart to _Fingers crossed_ is _Ich drück' Dir die Daumen_ (I squeeze my thumbs), whereto the wisher simultaneously forms a fist with both hands and presses the thumbs on the respective index finger. This difference in gestures between crossed fingers and squeezed thumbs sometimes leads to daft lost in translation scences if you watch a dubbed Hollywood movie (mind you we almost dub any foreign movie which is why e.g. the Scandinavians, who mostly are okay with merely subtitling, are on average much better in English) where the actor is gesturing crossed fingers and their dubbed voice is uttering _Ich drücke Dir die Daumen_ .

I guess the idea "we should avoid mentioning luck, because we will scare it away" is quite widespread. In Spanish we also say "¡Mucha mierda!" (lots of shit) = (referring to the carriages pulled by horses-times, when if the theatre had big success, lots of people came by carriages, therefore once the play was over, and everybody left, there the streets around the theatre were full of horse manure). In Hungarian we also say "With a big hat full of"- without mentioning the actual word shit. Everyone knows which omitted word was implied. This expression also refers to the same reality of the streets after a successful big theatre event.
