Its all about taking YOUR time. My routine: pre-shave applied after shower, while thatbis soaking in I mix up my lather in a heated bowl. Apply hot lather. Now assemble your razor and blade while the hot lather gets to work. Take your time. Check the blade alignment and exposure. Position the alum block beside the sink. Now at last warm up the razor and start with pass #1. All of these little delays have added up to extended face prep time. Rinse, repeat, rinse, buff iff necessary. Warm rinse. Alum block applied, leave it on while you rinse your lather bowl brush, and razor. If you have done everything right the alum block did not produce lots of stinging. Rinse off the alum with cold water. Pat dry. Apply balm or aftershave. Again if it was a good shave the aftershave will not produce a "Home Alone" scream! Dry off the shaving impliments and put them away until the next shave. Walk out of the bathroom with a smooth face. No stinging or rashes. Aim for this success everytime you shave. Life is full of pain and disappointment. Dont let disappointment YOUR shaves ever go that way. If something is not working STOP! Fix it or f**k it and try over. This is your time. Enjoy it!

So, shave # 3 with the Leaf Twig. @ Ohio Shaves, I remembered your tip about not going against the grain starting out. I did two passes with the grain and one final pass across the grain. There was little to no irritation on my neck, except the left side, but very minimal. BBS on my face except my neck area, and there I had very minimal stubble, so I called it a day. The Parker Alum bar, little to no stinging all over, except for a slight bit in the mouth area. Anyway, thanks for the channel, and I got a perfectly fine shave by avoiding an against the grain pass. 👍

@Ohio Shaves Time to explore the wide world of styptics. They have more hemostatic power than a block of alum and work way better than a little piece of toilet paper. I'm a big fan of My-Nik-Is-Sealed. It's in a little roll-on bottle. It's less messy than dealing with powder or a pencil and it won't shatter if you drop it on a hard surface like a stone countertop or tile floor. I dries clear, unlike the pencils that leave dry white residue.

Instead of using a cream and doing it by hand, use your shaving soap and a brush to wash your face. Make a lather then just rinse it off. You'll be surprised at how much better of a lather you start making and with how good your skin will start feeling!

Practice at night with your shaving brush to clean your face. If you have a complexion problem, it will definitely clear it up quickly. At least that's been my experience.
