I use rough sand paper to make sure the bed liner stuck. Did 2-3 coats and it's hella durable and helps seal possible leaks in joints. I honestly think it gets slightly louder

Went to home depot with wife and kids, Got distracted and bought under coating for chasis🙈😬😅. I did a side on 1 wedge monitor that I am trying to fix. Had to clean it when I realised it was under coating Have you finish your project?

@@audiovega55 I did the exact samething on the inside of a wood box with plexiglass window comes off rather easy scraping and sanding , but it was kind of oily and soaked into the wood , did you have the same issue , and were you able to remove it if you did , how ?? Used to do my boxes in spray-on Duplicolor/Rustoleum bedliner but Duratex is far superior. You can apply it indoors (no smell) and you can clean it up with water. On top of that it hardens in a couple of hours and doesn't smell. At high temperature is also doesn't get gummy like spray-on liner. If you want to get smoother texture that looks nicer (for HT installs) I recommend using a foam brush. Also before coating I recommend flattening any wood overhangs and routing the edges with a roundover to get even better looks and durability.

And thus is being conservative lol. It's dry to the touch in 10 mins. I waited 30 mins and was able to put my box together and start using it. It dries extremely quickly. Duratex is so much better

I'm going to use this kind of stuff for waterproofing my shower. Then lay tile in. Years ago I painted/ coated a pair of blue jeans and my leather work boots. 👍 it helps if they're already broken-in, that way it's already formed to you. Custom rain gear. Great-looking when riding your bike and wet weather. Age 65.

Dude loved the video I always wondered about that product. And I liked how you tripoded the camera, I watch on a 70" big screen tv and there was no blurry movements in the video 10 out of 10! the best best that has ever been bested lol wink wink.

Best subwoofer enclosure hack I've ever personally done, but I used HERCULINER with obvious sanding prep work, using multiple thick coats and waited for a low humidity perfect weather conditions kinda day, etc. You can actually hear the improved audio clarity afterwards 💪🏼🔥❤️

My roller included with a gallon of this was unusable. It wouldn't roll. Thought It was a simple fix but ended up just not using it cause it was really not wanting to roll. Luckily I bought spares and they worked. If I didn't the included roller would have set me back a trip to the hardware store. Not a huge deal. But something to be aware of. I thought it would cover seams better. My boxes were sanded to the point you couldn't feel the seams at all. But still showed up unless you put on multiple coats. Still. I really like the finish and its very durable and using white ended up looking great with my Dark Walnut stain.

I might have to try that my 1st plan was to use epoxy and do a thick clear coat over some silk fabric with leds routered in under the silk. but bein thus box is ugly and I keep tuning it to find the best sound. that this will be tougher, cheaper, and easily redone if I change something. Save the epoxy for the 6 pair isobaric 18s 6th order wall going in the 3/4ton suburban

What about the inside ? I feel like doing it inside would add some more stability structural wise and even add some damping increase bass response.

I have put a ns2 amplifier to a zv6 and it blew up for 5 minutes of music but luckily my ns2 didn't go into protect but I'm going to recone it with the SPL Corey dean recones

I've been using Behr Deckover from Home Depot. Its a rubberized acrylic that they can mix to match damn near any color. You can also vary the texture by using different rollers.

@@jimmiedean8035 I can't remember if I paid $35 or $70 for a gallon. So it's either 1/2 - 1/4 the price of Duratex. I've done at 2+ coats on a 3.25cu' box, 2 1cu' boxes, 2 .5cu' boxes, and I've got a little less than 1qt left. It seems to go a long ways. I'm sure you could price it on their website. Lowe's has the same stuff on their own brand, if you have a preference.

And you can do touch-ups with a cheap foam brush. Just dab it on to match your texture. Couple of tips: It needs a good 24hrs to dry, and at least 72hrs to cure. If you try to roll a box over to hit the other side within 24hrs, it's probably gonna stick. So patience is advised. It says it shouldn't be thinned, but if you goof up and not seal the can well(like I did), a little distilled water will fix it.

@@gakudzu7282 I’ve used the “Cabot” brand from lowes for years on inside of jonboats over alum and wood , it’s a great product and much more durable than bed liner and can be tinted to color of the boat .

Duratex is awesome! My qbomb box came with it, it's very durable, and looks good!

just to clarify, I assume you had to re drill the mounting holes for the subs, but how can you ensure a good seal between the sub and box? foam rings?

Kind of thinking that would work really well for sealing the inside of cabs too 🤔

I used rhino liner on my two 10 kicker comp box for my single cab truck 1 year in no prob other then dust once a week as off road dirt kicks up

I have a coustom box from Coustom Lowz ordered for 2 8" skar zvx's. It's bare wood with no rino linner . Might have to do this instead of painting it

Yeah Duratex is great!

I use that on a lot of the boxes I build for ppl. Works great. Just not good to have a lot of texture where the sub needs to seal bc it will definitely cause it to leak. Other than that it's great.

my brother did this and he just used like a gasket material like a jb weld almost but it wasn't hardened.. where the subs sit to seal

@@zanechristiansen yeah I've done that too with a weather strip type material that is sticky on one side. That's the only way I could get it to seal. Since then I've used a smooth roller and it seals fine without anything extra

how is it holding so far? i have a single GP Audio 12" Prefab and it's not painted or coated just wood

Just tried using this stuff. The coating seems durable, but the finish looks like crap. Very splotchy and uneven. I even bought an extra, bigger 4" foam roller, 4" paint tray, and 2 spare 4" foam inserts. They are the exact same texture as the included roller. I ended up doing about 4 coats on the majority of the box, and 2 on the back (depending how it's installed). It just looks really annoyingly bad. Maybe it won't be noticeable in a dark trunk but it definitely is in indirect sunlight. The box is a GP Audio vented single 8". Maybe I went too light on all 4 coats? I basically poured a moderate amount into the paint tray trough, rolled the roller back and forth to make sure I had even coating, went back and forth in horizontal rows, then noticed the same thing as Parker, it looked best when finishing with overlapping horizontal rows in one direction, or there was an overlap line that stayed. FWIW, it didn't even fill in the "nail holes" on my box. I had to put a thick dot of paint in each one with a tiny paint brush.

it seems the screws have an effect on the surface of the liner, i personally dont use screws on my boxes. i use a pin nailer because the glue is the actual bond between the wood panels

I've got to where I use a quarter-inch dowel tapped into a quarter inch hole I pre-drill on all the surfaces to glue my boxes together without screws much stronger and saves the cost of metal screws as I make my own quarter-inch dowel rods now. Makes a very nice finish and unique looking.

Can you apply over vinyl ??

Glue a second layer of 1/2 MDF over the particle board for strength the box will hold up a lot longer.

Hey Earl, I'm curious what you are running for power to the L7's? And what would you run for power to the single 15" Def Bounce? **Personally I would keep the L7's AND get the Def Bounce 15" too! Even if you have to run either one's with a cheap-o amp for a while. I had some seriously great results running this Audiopulse Axis quad 1 ohm voice coil 12" sub (like 54 lbs!) AND a TC Sounds Tropo 15" at .8 ohms off my Orion XTR 2500 amp(never got around to wiring up my other sub amp, which would have been much better for dialing in each amp's power and crossovers to their respective subs), and it absolutely rocked! Even with the 15" box being tuned much lower than the prefab 12" box it sounded great with every type of music I played, and I listen to basically EVERYTHING!!

Well done Parker ,now since the product is applied does it give more solid thump more dbs better sound. let us know

Yeah, I would wonder if there are any "coatings" that could/would maybe solidify (if that's the right term to use) the box making it hit a little harder, tighter? I guess there would have to be some resonance where the box is vibrating that could be helped reduce or stopped in the first place. Just got thinking about it and wondering if there's anything to it

@@BabyCharlotteschannel you would have to coat the inside of a box to effect sound waves. And then again it prob won't change the sound due to the box "should" already be air tight. But some have argued that using sound damping inside a box changes the sound.

@@jaz97 yes, I was thinking of the inside although I'm not convinced that there could be certain frequencies that might make the wood vibrate through the entire thickness. Obviously bracing has it's place big time on high powered, hard hitting subs, and I will be the first to admit I am not a professional in sound wave theory, though I have a decent amount of experience with putting together and installing HiFi stereo systems I have TONS more I would love to learn!

I just sold my Xterra so I could pick up a nice first generation Grand Cherokee, and I'm not concerned about the looks of the boxes too much because I usually have a bunch of tools for doing mobile mechanic work. Do they'd get scratched before long anyway..

I just recently built two enclosures for my two sundown x series 12's and for the baffles I used black faux alligator skin and for the rest of the boxes I used gray faux alligator skin and they look pretty awesome!!!

I used the Dupont liner paint on my box 4 weeks ago and I can still smell it 🤮

Why don’t you hang the box like everyone else and then paint? Lol

Side note: Don't do the inside of the box. It can cause turbulence and air noise from the rough texture.

Coated with whatever coating stuff you're talking about? Cause I would definitely think the air that comes rushing in and out through port would be very susceptible to that..

@@BabyCharlotteschannel I used hurculiner. It was s dual 15 prefab slots on the ends so it was 2 different chambers. I added another layer of 3/4 mdf to all sides then coated with the liner. After that I junked the box and went 4th order . Fiberglass resin coated the 4th order.

Xv3 12 or 10. Kinda looks like a 10.

Yeah that's what I've been doing since the 90s and I still haven't found anything better cheaper or more effective. Just got to sand it outside so you don't get fiberglass in the garage

Sound deadener is only so good. Just like adding it to metal panels to reduce vibration, it will only vibrate at a lower frequency than it did previously. It can not fully remove the vibration & resonate frequency, it only covers up some of it from being heard. The same goes for speaker enclosures too.
