    FYI, to keep those copper wort chillers looking brand new, I use a double strength solution of Star san, about 20 mil per gallon and 4 gallons of water in an old brew bucket. I leave the Star san mix in the bucket with a lid and reuse as needed. At the 10 minutes to flame out mark I drop the chiller into the bucket and if it's needed or not I rinse it off before dropping into the wort.

    Great suggestion! I keep mine really clean but would love to see a little shine come back like it used to be...all shiny. I always do the StarSan spray and rinse just before dropping it in but one time, I didn't do a very good job at rinsing, and my chill down had a ton of foaming bubbles. 🤣

    Blichmann/Anvil makes some great quality products, but Jaded Brewing only makes one main product, and they do an AMAZING job at it. Easy to clean and can't get clogged based on the way it is used. (I'm always a little scared to imagine what might be inside of many plate chillers and counter flow chillers - They might look like the inside of a fast food soda machine, one more reason I don't drink soda.)

    Thanks for the tip. I've got a jaded cooler in my gun sights very soon. Just one of those bad gut feelings when you realize you were screwed. Unfortunately part of life. I'd rather take a beating than buy a new car. (I could tell you some stories. ) again thanks!

    Fully understand. Sometimes I'll pay more to avoid a bigger hassle somewhere else or if the product will be in my possession much sooner if I really need it. As for buying cars, we could both share some fun stories. If my wife is at a car dealer before I arrive, she will build me up as a total backside, as I can be extremely passive-aggressive when I need to be, plus when it comes to spending a lot of money, I've been known to grab (3 times, so far) the finance person's LCD to see what kind of crazy crap they are trying to pull. (I've only had one get really upset and say, "Hey, that is my computer!" and my reply was, "Well, that is my money!". My son was buying a car, and we hit it off with one finance guy (We had a lot of the same interests), and even though we were already buying a brand-new car for less than anyone else in the last 6 months, according to CarFax, the finance guy was having issues with the numbers for the bank, so he took an extra $500 off the total price. (Only finance guy I ever enjoyed working with, but the sales manager hated me.) I always go into a car dealer with the attitude that I really don't need a new car/truck, and they need to earn my business. I usually take up 2 to 3 sales persons, and their manager's time to the point they aren't as worried about profit and more about just closing the deal as I become a personal challenge for them. (I also only go at the end of the month, usually after 5 PM, with rates from my favorite bank, and have my current vehicle presold if they can't offer me more.) (CarMax will almost always beat any dealer to buy your car from you.)

    Last Monday a homebrew website had a last straw bottle filler on sale so I decided to buy it. At checkout the shipping was almost $18 dollars and to top it off they are now charging $1 dollar "fuel" cost. Making matters worse is now there's a $99 minimum purchase for free shipping and without needing enough to make the free shipping I left without the bottle filler, sadly it was a one day sale.

  • @BitterRealityBrewing

    I know exactly who you are talking about without ever seeing the "fuel" charge on a beer brewing site. It was meant to be as I bought a Last Straw, and it looks like a cool, futuristic laser gun, but sadly any counter-pressure bottle filler will do a better job. There used to be a guy that sold a specially designed silicone addon for the last straw to help it work like a counterflow, but I haven't seen him online in years. The two companies (same actual company) that I know that sell it also used to offer an addon kit to help convert it into a counter-pressure bottle filler. Either get a TapCooler (or Kegland revision of it) or something like this - amzn.to/3MsL6kw which you don't need the gauge, but for an extra $10, you can score one with. The only pros and cons - the cheap one is a little difficult to handle without someone to assist due to the tubes (air and liquid) based on your setup. The TapCooler (which can leak a bit) works awesome for one person on the side of a keezer. I found it to have an issue with working under a lower tap on my new Kegerator setup, so I had to use an Intertap/Nukatap special adapter I bought a while back, just in case.

    I sent them an email a few weeks back. I have a 6 gallon Anvil system and absolutely love it. I bought it after viewing one of your comparison videos. It came with the stainless immersion chiller. It works great, but with two and a half gallons of wort, only the bottom five coils are immersed. I was hoping that they were considering making one for those of us who do smaller batches.

    Clay should respond, but there might be a delay as I sent them an email this morning letting them know about this video, and I got an auto-response about a medical issue. Someone at the company appears to have had a recent medical issue. (They are a small U.S. company of craftsman, so even one person being out can slow them down a bit, but for the quality of their products a little delay is more than worth it.)

    WOW! That is a huge jump! Sadly you will regret only one thing, not buying one sooner. When I first purchased mine, I questioned their claims of how fast it could chill my wort. After doing a few videos and many tests, I was sold. As you see, I bought a 2nd one (more for testing initially), but I knew I'd eventually buy a 2nd brewing system and would need it long-term.

    Hello Mike, I appreciate your passion, but did you check what shipping costs to Europe are? I have some experience with this, and shipping costs typically double (maybe even triple) the cost especially for a heavy and bulky item like this chiller.

  • @BitterRealityBrewing

    @BitterRealityBrewing

    No, and I know this won't work for everyone, but I based this video on a conversation Jaded Brewing had with a KZread viewer on one of their videos. The home brewer (I am pretty sure he was in England) said he loved the product but had paid a massive amount from his LHBS. Jaded Brewing said they felt bad and wished he had reached out to them as they had shipping methods that might have saved him a lot on the costs. I know this doesn't work for all countries, but if it can save a handful of fellow home brewers from overspending, then the video will be worth it. I love buying quality, but hate having to pay more than I have to.

  • @pv4669
    @pv46696 ай бұрын

    Have you contacted the foreign home brew shop? They will have incurred shipping costs, customs costs and perhaps duty on the imported item. Duty rates can differ by product category and country. Does Jaded have a wholesale program where the reseller is sold at a lower price in order to be able to make a profit and still be at the manufacturer's suggested price? If not, the home brew shop may have simply purchased the item and is reselling it to make it available. They are certainly entitled to make a profit. I don't know the particulars, but you are making claims without having all the information to digest. Thanks for the video.

  • @BitterRealityBrewing

    @BitterRealityBrewing

    This info came from a buyer and I was given estimates on what the "costs" should be to a company reselling it in the UK. It was a little bit crazy markup and a something the home brew shop simply probably wasn't all that profitable to resell in the UK. I've worked in corporate retail and not everything, no matter how good a product is, is actually worth reselling. I do understand what you are saying about customs with possible duty and even additional tax levies. We have friends in a country where it is extremely cost prohibitive to ship them any electronics. They pay less buying it themselves abroad and declaring it compared to us shipping it to them.

    Currently, almost everything is overpriced. As for the Jaded chillers, based on current copper prices, I'd have to argue that they are actually competitively priced. Some would argue they are a great deal compared to buying the copper yourself to make them from scratch to the same specs.
