I used to work in the child watch rooms which members could use for free for up to 2 hours while they worked out. I watched peoples kids and was able to bring mine to work with me. 39 minutes...if she works very much she won't qualify for state aid, unfortunately. Also not allowed to save much. I think she's doing really well for where she is. When the youngest is older life will be entirely different. She could work when the baby was tiny, slept and ate. Now it's crawling, starting to walk. Caring for it is a full time job.

She definitely withheld that student debt. She should have found a job working from home to pay that debt or take on odd jobs. Personally, I was very upfront with my ex-husband about my debt. I also work jobs to pay it down as well. It wasn't an issue for him because he knew I was responsible enough to pay it. He even offered to help but of course I refused because that's not the way I was raised. I continued to pay my debt. Eventually, we divorce for other reasons. Honesty is always best. You'll be surprised with how far just being honest will get you. We are still cordial to this day. I always encourage people to disclose it before that person falls for you so that they can make an informed decision. You wouldn't want someone to hide that from you.

In Victorian times sub letting was the norm. In England it was common for the poorer in society to keep a lodger who would sleep at the end of the bed. There was no limit at one time to the number of children people had because they just all slept in the same bed. I live in a house built in 1860 with two bedrooms. There would have been ten people living here at one point. Its not as far fetched as you might think.

$60,000 in student loan is not a bit deal. It is not $600,000! She and her mother who co-signed are responsible for it, not the husband. He did not incur the debt. The wife can slowly pay it back with a job. Her mother can provide free babysitting if she cannot help pay off the loan. The wife should work at home or during odd hours when the husband can take care of the kids. Avoid babysitting expenses, otherwise, the wife’s earnings will be a wash. Buying a house makes sense since the mortgage is lower than the rent. They are, more importantly, building equity. There is more space in the house versus a two-bedroom apartment. Be careful, folks, with your advice. You must not break up the marriage because two young children are involved. $60,000 can be paid off systematically. Not to worry. Others have done it.

@@Trustbutverify2651 Totally. Frankly, I truly wish they would stop throwing around the term “fidelity” when it comes to financial situations. It’s just Not the same thing. The idea of tossing aside an entire marriage because of money disagreements is really outer limits, to me. There definitely are degrees of financial trouble but some folks simply don’t know better because they haven’t been exposed to a different way of doing things. There’s always room to learn and grow.

Dave tends to play "blame the man." I've said it before, women are the deciders. Men will hit on women, ask them out, and ultimately the woman makes the decision whether or not to take the guy home. If you're a single mom and the dad is a deadbeat or a criminal, it was your choice to let that guy into your life. Until we stop calling single moms heroes and asking them to take accountability for their poor decisions, there's no helping. P.S. I know some people are single parents because their spouse died. I'm not talking about that, I'm talking about the most common situation, which is getting knocked up by a deadbeat or by a boyfriend that you don't really feel that strongly about.

100%. I taught college 35 years and got sick and tired of the single mom excuse for everything. In addition, women also use that at work to get preferential treatment. Sex is a CHOICE and everyone knows that not using effective birth control can lead to a baby. I am a woman. Time for all women to take responsibility for the CHOICES they make!

This is for Hunter in Louisville - and anyone else considering a PhD in Practical Theology. John was quite right in asking if the degree was actually a DMin. In years past, individuals who wanted to devote their lives to biblical scholarship research (and perhaps a little teaching), got a PhD or a ThD (doctorate in theology). Those who wanted to devote their study to practical application of spiritual truths for use, for example, as a church minister went for the DMin. We have several PhDs in the family, as well as a retired pastor brother who earned a DMin (for just the reason given.) The PhD in Practical Theology is a real degree, and the target is very specific. It is offered by several universities including more secular universities such as Princeton and Boston U, and several Christian universities such as Liberty, Trinity, and Palm Beach Atlantic - among others. It is a degree that is very in vogue now because Christian academics are looking for a way to bridge biblical advanced study and research with various cultural disciplines. Almost all of the mainline denominational churches are in decline because they are perceived as no longer being culturally in touch. The churches that are growing are those that are biblically solid, but also culturally relevant. There is a strong element of Christian apologetics in this degree - giving a rational answer for Christian beliefs. Much of the focus of this degree is on crafting solid, but culturally relevant arguments based on research studies, and in that respect more like a PhD than a DMin. My guess from the tuition # he gave which would be very low for Princeton or Boston U is that he is considering or is in the online program at Liberty which has a very low flat tuition rate per semester regardless of # of credits taken and is, thus, one of the lowest costs. Southern Baptist seminaries are also low cost because they are supported by the denomination, but I am not aware of them offering specifically a PhD in Practical Theology (that is so-named.) My caution to Hunter is that this degree is new, largely unproven at this point, and the degree itself causes confusion (as it did with John.) It's sort of like a degree in "humanities" - no one knows what that is until a person with the degree explains it. I think the likelihood of Hunter finding a full-time university teaching job with this degree is very slim. It is more likely tailored to those already working in a church or in a university in another capacity and want to get this cultural nexus. Most universities would prefer a PhD in a particular biblical field or a ThD for teaching faculty because those degrees have stronger identities and standing in the academic community.

I actually don’t agree with your comments regarding the wife who committed financial infidelity because she didn’t disclose the student loan. I felt nauseous as I listened how you dissected the case. Poorly done. I married my husband who had a student loan who didn’t tell me really much about while we were dating. He totally didn’t think was such a big deal, he also owned a house and he assumed just as much he had a mortgage, he also had a student loan. You both called her a liar … you destroyed her reputation in national radio. Very disappointed… What do you know ?? Perhaps her parents told her they were paying ? Even though she consigned? Maybe she didn’t feel the need ? Maybe she was just naive? Maybe she felt embarrassed? Who knows but your words were not the best … I am a faithful follower of this plan but listening to you both have caused me to see you as judgmental and truly not Christlike.
