As of today, July 1, Florida has a new squatters law (HB621) to give property owners more rights to protect their homes. It also increases penalties on squatters. Jacksonville resident Patti Peeples was instrumental in getting the law passed after women broke into her home and claimed to have the rights to it. Here’s how she turned a nightmare scenario into change for the better. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office will actively enforce the new law to help protect property rights.
