It’s good advice if your suffering from sensory overload if you have to much negativity in your life coming from all sides it’s good to just lock yourself off for a while and meditate and ponder your next move for when you rejoin society because eventually you’ll have to just put some music in the background and sit and think what can make you happy what are you willing to do to reach that and if it’s worth the sacrifice and if you don’t want to just sit inside your room go to the park and sit in a bench and just take in the atmosphere and hopefully by the end of “monk mode” you’ll come back with some answers or at the very least some insight into what making you unhappy

From personal experience, i can say that locking yourself up is not a good idea. Stopping having any kind of interaction with society is a very bad idea. I did this when i was 14, for 63 days (a whole summer break). The result? Social Anxiety disorder which just kept getting worse, to this day im still recovering from it. Not a good idea. You may learn new things you dont when youre with others but acquiring Social Anxiety is not worth it.

Agreed. All the answers and the highest levels of creativity come to you in solitude. I can attest to this from experience. It’s temporary periods not indefinitely lol. The reason why it may be hard or undesirable for many to do this is because many are not able to sit with themselves with no interruption for sustained amount of time. Anxiety that needs to be calmed and the fact that we (many) experience sensory overload daily. First requires discipline then after you overcome the discipline it requires to get to that level of stimuli, it’s a peaceful endeavor. Something you’ll want to do often.

Going monk mode is probably one of the best and worst things I did for myself. Best because I learned a lot of who i am and I needed a break from all the toxicity in my life. Being one with yourself and being happy with that is a truly special experience that really only comes from removing yourself from distractions. Worst though because I isolated myself away from people entirely and I very easily fell into a superiority complex because I finally saw my flaws, accepted them and improved them to make myself better. By lacking social interaction I lost some form of humility and held myself above others for “figuring it out” where it was obvious so many others hadn’t. Part of me wanted to help but I could help myself from looking down on them. It took a good year of just sitting back and watching ppl socialize in person instead of on social media to break the antisocial behaviour I had picked up. I came out of it with better clarity, more confidence and a genuine sense of self-love. But it came at a cost, as does everything in this world; I highly recommend doing it for the sake of tackling your inner demons and conquering them, then return to normal life - don’t keep yourself in it for too long or it’ll take longer for you to reintegrate, if at all (which is another discussion for those who achieve so much clarity that they can see very aura of our society and not want anything to do with it).

I have to disagree with you here man. Going monk mode may be what's required for some. Sometimes you need to get rid of the distractions in order to tap into that innate discipline. Sometimes creativity comes from a deeper self, the one that exists in solitude. The one that doesn't need any external support. Einstein was known to essentially work in monk mode and would describe receiving profound ideas in solitude. I've practiced monk mode for a few weeks and experienced crazy progress financially and in increasing my self discipline.

As an introvert, I have been anti-social from the very start. I decided to change my life from the start of college. So I displayed my confidence and made friends. I became more confident, happy and had better social skills. But my energy would be completely drained when it wasn't even the end of the day. I had a great social life but I would have 0 energy to invest in any activity which matters. I decided to go into monk mode. Now I am very very shy, anti-social, bad at conversations, always nervous , anxious and insecure but I found my life purpose and finally developed discipline. I made a list of all of the things that I wanna do before I pass away, mostly related to skills that I want to learn. Now I know where I want to be. I know the end goal. Now I work on a skill as soon as I wake up,workout, meditate and visualize in the morning, read a book, then go to college. After college, I again read books and I would learn something new everyday. I exchanged my social life for progress. "Sometimes, the price of progress is loneliness." I will try to get better at conversations as well in summer vacations.

It’s all personal interpretation and what works for you. Monk mode is about buckling down and getting done what you already have the desires for. If you need to get your ass in gear and write the book you’ve been wanting to, or work on yourself and focus on your business, chances are that you already have all of the knowledge and the experience to simply get started. It’s not about changing your entire life, it’s about forcing yourself to get started. I think it will work for anyone who tries it. It’s up to you how long you do it but I believe that it’s a very good thing to do

Agree to an extent. Monk mode can be helpful if you feel there’s too much noise from the exterior for you to discern what’s already inside your mind and heart. Sometimes, solitude is good to cultivate a quieter mind & heart. However, it’s certainly unhealthy if that’s the only source of creativity. External stimuli is needed. But to everything, there is a balance and a flow/ebb of tide with creativity.

I see some of your point of views. But I have integrated monk training into my daily life routine and especially when I exercise and train. After a workout or when I wake up I start meditating right away for 30 min, with a glass of water next to me in my hous's sunroom. It's reall great to be connected with nature but shut away in a room in solitude from the world at the same time. And I still enjoyed drinking with friends and eating food, gaming, watching movies. I just feel at ease meditating as my stress fades away from my body. But it is true, you shouldn't exclude yourse from experiences in life. You need the bad times and the good times to make you who you are.

Going from making 5k a month from my job to spending 30k a month on payroll is life changing. I have way more free time now to focus on other things like my physique, buying s fancy car, going on more trips. And I get to wake up every day with dozens of employees depending on me to lead this company. Don’t drink the kool aid. Being rich and the life possibilities that it opens up is NOT overrated. If you always do the same thing, you’ll always get the same results. If you can’t spend time alone, you need to make yourself better company. If you lose friends over it, they were never your friend anyways. All kinds of people experience mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual growth from a monk mode adventure.

Monk mode was hijacked by the productivity influencers. It was much different when it started, I read it first on Illimitable men almost 7-8 year ago. It's for people with philosophical issues, not dopamine issues. It didn't mean cut out all social life and live in solitude. That's one-way ticket to mental illness. It's designed to make you stop and think about your life and why you're here. Living in solitude doesn't make someone a monk, confronting existential dread does. This was covered in the last chapter of The Way of Superior Men in 1997 which is what Monk Mode is based on. It's a bootcamp, not a meditation retreat. Passively giving up internet, social life, vices is what anyone who's arrested goes through. Very few convicts actually make something of themselves.

Went into monk mode with the advice i read up and how beneficial it is. At first i went a month on my own. Then 1 month turned into 6, then a year. After a while i started having a hard time making new friends. I was left to my own thoughts for so long, i forgot what it felt like to associate, even with my family!! A few years later, i value my peace more than anything, and dont need anything or anyone. That said, i do miss so much of the human experience i once had and am not sure if i can get back to that. . . Trying to get off monk mode is much harder than going into it, believe it or not. . . If i could do it all over again, id do it with someone guiding me in and out... just be careful if you do decide to do this. Peaceful life is so addicting. . . But does get very lonely sometimes. . . Quick note: my sex life did take a hit, its not that difficult to get laid as im not a bad looking dude... but being in a relationship is such a drag now. . . Take it as a good thing or bad i guess.
