It’s good advice if your suffering from sensory overload if you have to much negativity in your life coming from all sides it’s good to just lock yourself off for a while and meditate and ponder your next move for when you rejoin society because eventually you’ll have to just put some music in the background and sit and think what can make you happy what are you willing to do to reach that and if it’s worth the sacrifice and if you don’t want to just sit inside your room go to the park and sit in a bench and just take in the atmosphere and hopefully by the end of “monk mode” you’ll come back with some answers or at the very least some insight into what making you unhappy

I did this when i was 14, for 63 days (a whole summer break). The result? Social Anxiety disorder which just kept getting worse, to this day im still recovering from it. Not a good idea. You may learn new things you dont when youre with others but acquiring Social Anxiety is not worth it.

Agreed. All the answers and the highest levels of creativity come to you in solitude. I can attest to this from experience. It’s temporary periods not indefinitely lol. The reason why it may be hard or undesirable for many to do this is because many are not able to sit with themselves with no interruption for sustained amount of time. Anxiety that needs to be calmed and the fact that we (many) experience sensory overload daily. First requires discipline then after you overcome the discipline it requires to get to that level of stimuli, it’s a peaceful endeavor. Something you’ll want to do often.

@autumn-marissamcclounie7868 Жыл бұрын
Going monk mode is probably one of the best and worst things I did for myself. Best because I learned a lot of who i am and I needed a break from all the toxicity in my life. Being one with yourself and being happy with that is a truly special experience that really only comes from removing yourself from distractions. Worst though because I isolated myself away from people entirely and I very easily fell into a superiority complex because I finally saw my flaws, accepted them and improved them to make myself better. By lacking social interaction I lost some form of humility and held myself above others for “figuring it out” where it was obvious so many others hadn’t. Part of me wanted to help but I could help myself from looking down on them. It took a good year of just sitting back and watching ppl socialize in person instead of on social media to break the antisocial behaviour I had picked up. I came out of it with better clarity, more confidence and a genuine sense of self-love. But it came at a cost, as does everything in this world; I highly recommend doing it for the sake of tackling your inner demons and conquering them, then return to normal life - don’t keep yourself in it for too long or it’ll take longer for you to reintegrate, if at all (which is another discussion for those who achieve so much clarity that they can see very aura of our society and not want anything to do with it).

As an introvert, I have been anti-social from the very start. I decided to change my life from the start of college. So I displayed my confidence and made friends. I became more confident, happy and had better social skills. But my energy would be completely drained when it wasn't even the end of the day. I had a great social life but I would have 0 energy to invest in any activity which matters. I decided to go into monk mode. Now I am very very shy, anti-social, bad at conversations, always nervous , anxious and insecure but I found my life purpose and finally developed discipline. I made a list of all of the things that I wanna do before I pass away, mostly related to skills that I want to learn. Now I know where I want to be. I know the end goal. Now I work on a skill as soon as I wake up,workout, meditate and visualize in the morning, read a book, then go to college. After college, I again read books and I would learn something new everyday. I exchanged my social life for progress. "Sometimes, the price of progress is loneliness." I will try to get better at conversations as well in summer vacations.

It’s all personal interpretation and what works for you. Monk mode is about buckling down and getting done what you already have the desires for. If you need to get your ass in gear and write the book you’ve been wanting to, or work on yourself and focus on your business, chances are that you already have all of the knowledge and the experience to simply get started. It’s not about changing your entire life, it’s about forcing yourself to get started. I think it will work for anyone who tries it. It’s up to you how long you do it but I believe that it’s a very good thing to do

Agree to an extent. Monk mode can be helpful if you feel there’s too much noise from the exterior for you to discern what’s already inside your mind and heart. Sometimes, solitude is good to cultivate a quieter mind & heart. However, it’s certainly unhealthy if that’s the only source of creativity. External stimuli is needed. But to everything, there is a balance and a flow/ebb of tide with creativity.

I see some of your point of views. But I have integrated monk training into my daily life routine and especially when I exercise and train. After a workout or when I wake up I start meditating right away for 30 min, with a glass of water next to me in my hous's sunroom. It's reall great to be connected with nature but shut away in a room in solitude from the world at the same time. And I still enjoyed drinking with friends and eating food, gaming, watching movies. I just feel at ease meditating as my stress fades away from my body. But it is true, you shouldn't exclude yourse from experiences in life. You need the bad times and the good times to make you who you are.

Going from making 5k a month from my job to spending 30k a month on payroll is life changing. I have way more free time now to focus on other things like my physique, buying s fancy car, going on more trips. And I get to wake up every day with dozens of employees depending on me to lead this company. Don’t drink the kool aid. Being rich and the life possibilities that it opens up is NOT overrated. Monk mode was hijacked by the productivity influencers. It was much different when it started, I read it first on Illimitable men almost 7-8 year ago. It's for people with philosophical issues, not dopamine issues. It didn't mean cut out all social life and live in solitude. That's one-way ticket to mental illness. It's designed to make you stop and think about your life and why you're here. Living in solitude doesn't make someone a monk, confronting existential dread does. This was covered in the last chapter of The Way of Superior Men in 1997 which is what Monk Mode is based on. It's a bootcamp, not a meditation retreat. Passively giving up internet, social life, vices is what anyone who's arrested goes through. Very few convicts actually make something of themselves.

After a while i started having a hard time making new friends. I was left to my own thoughts for so long, i forgot what it felt like to associate, even with my family!! A few years later, i value my peace more than anything, and dont need anything or anyone. That said, i do miss so much of the human experience i once had and am not sure if i can get back to that. . . Trying to get off monk mode is much harder than going into it, believe it or not. . . If i could do it all over again, id do it with someone guiding me in and out... just be careful if you do decide to do this. Peaceful life is so addicting. . . But does get very lonely sometimes. . . Quick note: my sex life did take a hit, its not that difficult to get laid as im not a bad looking dude... but being in a relationship is such a drag now. . . Take it as a good thing or bad i guess.

I did this when i was 14, for 63 days (a whole summer break). The result? Social Anxiety disorder which just kept getting worse, to this day im still recovering from it. Not a good idea.
I've been in solitude for 3 years and this is where I developed most of communication skills, ironically, and understand more about the world and human, again ironically. But that's how it works for me. Now I'm outside the world, I'm finally helping those that needs help emotionally. Going monk mode is probably one of the best and worst things I did for myself. Best because I learned a lot of who i am and I needed a break from all the toxicity in my life.
Spoken like a true extrovert.

Your creativity explodes when you cut out all the distractions
You are right about one thing only... "...Don't listen to the hoopla on social media..."
I have to disagree with you here man. Going monk mode may be what's required for some. Sometimes you need to get rid of the distractions in order to tap into that innate discipline. Sometimes creativity comes from a deeper self, the one that exists in solitude. The one that doesn't need any external support. Einstein was known to essentially work in monk mode and would describe receiving profound ideas in solitude. I've practiced monk mode for a few weeks and experienced crazy progress financially and in increasing my self discipline.
I'm 50/50 on this one. I believe buckling down and discipling yourself is important. But you can't deprive yourself from enjoyment in life. Monk mode is supposed to be a temporary thing, like maybe 3 months.

Personally, when I wanted to achieve my goals in life I got it only by doing it again and again and again and again… no distractions whatsoever
Monk mode is about eliminating distractions and toxicity. Its about looking inward and sacrificing now for a better tomorrow. It is the first step towards cleaning up your mess, healing from the past and moving forward as a better, stronger version of yourself.
You're exactly right. We need to enrich our lives. Of course there's always a time and place for working, but without taking time for other things we enjoy, there's not going to be anything substantial on the other side. It's like working endlessly with no breaks. How do you expect to have any quality work by the end of it when you're feeling worn down and tired?
It depends ! Some people are wired to do things better in the monk mode. Loneliness can be boring sometimes and studies showed boredom actually works very well for creativity. If we speak about artists at least. And the analytical minf is there with oe without friends :) people just need to develop ! You need peace to analyze a thing. You can t analyze in so much noise.
Love it when you reinvent solitude in a totally different context for a totally different purpose. You supposed to stay in solitude so that you get rid of the analytical mind. So you tire it out and then you come back to thinking, in a way you don’t have to think
Been stuck in "monk" mode for 10 years, he's not wrong

It’s all personal interpretation and what works for you. Monk mode is about buckling down and getting done what you already have the desires for. If you need to get your ass in gear and write the book you’ve been wanting to, or work on yourself and focus on your business, chances are that you already have all of the knowledge and the experience to simply get started. It’s not about changing your entire life, it’s about forcing yourself to get started. I think it will work for anyone who tries it. It’s up to you how long you do it but I believe that it’s a very good thing to do

One man’s perspective is his own.
"All work and no play made a jack a dull boy"
From a creativity standpoint, it makes sense. During the pandemic, I heard Neil Gaiman say that it was difficult to write without being able to get external input.
"one cannot truly understand the world of meaning, without studying the world of meaningless." - Sum Dood
Monk mode is a way to train control over your desires. And being able to control yourself is a good thing
Monk mode is about one point focus bro, it's not about creativity, it's for using the knowledge we already have.
For spiritual reasons , going monk mode for as little as 30 days can change your life.
A man once said, A man with an opinion has nothing on a man with experience. i listened.

okay if you want to achieve good in life then dont follow monk mode but if you want to achieve the best then monk mode is actually helpful
Sitting back and doing absolutely nothing and being bored will inspire you also
I’ve been in monk mode for about 6 months now. All I’ve discovered is the fluff in my belly button.
Monk mode is a way of thinking and behaving. NOT literally locking yourself in room.
Anyone born without the internet or tv was born in this mode
isolation mode doesn't mean to stay there forever but very important for self growth you will not do it purposely this will happen to our body Mindy soul naturally .. to realise divine in ourselves it's very important to sit peacefully we are always in rush and hurry like that we can achieve worldly things but loose connection with divinity
My understanding is monk mode is to detoxify from a certain addiction that's holding you back. Not dealing with the addiction would be more dangerous to your growth then not experiencing new stimuli in that 2-3 months of self isolation
As someone in monk mode I have to tell that a small minority of people work differently
As a writer, he's absolutely right.
A friend did that monk mode. He is now the Sage of Six Paths
Here's the thing. 'Monk mode' essentially means taking a break, so that you can figure out from scratch what your sentiments are, allow them to not mislead you, detach from emotional baggage and bring peace into life. Once there's a reset and clarity, you can venture out.
I’m starting my own mobile auto repair business and my friends have not only helped spread my name but been loyal customers as well. Couldn’t do it without this one. I also use them to help me understand how other customers may respond to ideas I have.
I spent 2 years in monk mode creating my software consulting company. Was definitely worth it. Around the 1 year mark was when I could slowly transition to a more normal life. Well worth the year or 2 with a sub par social life
Dawg, if you don’t like the direction of your life and want to change it, temporarily giving up your social life can be a huge benefit. If you always do the same thing, you’ll always get the same results. If you can’t spend time alone, you need to make yourself better company. If you lose friends over it, they were never your friend anyways. All kinds of people experience mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual growth from a monk mode adventure.
Monk mode is all about connection with your own soul and the frequency on nature and to resonate with it.

loneliness is beautiful and peaceful. i wish i was left untouched and unbothered from the beginning of my existence. people are possessive and intrusive, especially older people
Basically don't listen to someone who says "do this don't do that". Everyone's different
Monk mode improves quality of life. I find solitude instead of loneliness, even im alone. Positivity & contentment does improve one's performance on social, career and life.
Went into monk mode with the advice i read up and how beneficial it is. At first i went a month on my own. Then 1 month turned into 6, then a year.
I did monk mode and it allowed me to connect to the deepest part of myself and I found myself and God in deep isolation just working on myself. Monk mode actually took me from from analytical mind to the creative mind. It actually took me into developing both instead of one.
Bro creative is 5%, incredible focus and hard work is 95%.
Monk mode is a way to appreciate what drives you. The only way to do that sometimes, is to remove yourself once in a while. Assess, analyze, act, and adjust
