The wipers in Rathbun have been exploding in size the last few years. Easy to pickup 24 to 30 inch wipers trolling flicker shads. The kingfisher has been our #1 lure for both wipers and walleye.
I fish all over the SE USA where the fishing is supposed to be so much better. It ain’t! Ill take the ponds and county lakes in SW Iowa any day!
I've fished Lake Sugema heavily since 2014 and havent caught a walleye there since 2015. Im pretty sure they dont stock them anymore either.

I think you’re underestimating the bluegill fishing in Iowa..I fish a farm pond where every 4-5 fish is 10”..many many farm ponds with 10” bluegill

Agreed but farm ponds are private and most people can’t fish them
Iowa needs a better population overall of saugeye and walleye, the rest are all over the place
