    I see you cut out the opening before stripping the plywood off. Did having the wood on make cutting easier, less vibration etc?

  • @BuildYourOwnAdventure

    @BuildYourOwnAdventure

    Yes. This was our last window install and I wish I would have cut all of them like this. Cutting from the inside with the wood on was much easier and really cut down on the vibration.

    I need to weld window tube supports on my cargo trailer also. What keeps the heat from ruining the red paint? Are you only tack welding on the inside side of the tubing?

  • @BuildYourOwnAdventure

    @BuildYourOwnAdventure

    I was thinking the same on my first window install but I didn’t see any discoloration from the welding. I just tried to spot weld it and move to another area while it cooled. First window I tried the inside side of the tubing and after I saw no issues I went back and added a few more spot welds in the angles to hold it. I’m still not really sure how it didn’t discolor the aluminum but I installed all three with no issues.

    look for a product by kimball midwest called "therma-shield heat protection gel" # 80-1159 i use it when welding/torching to protect wire harnesses, paint, near fuel lines, and anything else that requires heat dissipation....

    It’s not necessary at all. I’ve seen many builds use lumber supports held in by brackets. Welding is awesome but takes lots of practice.

    Youve never seen an emergency escape window in an RV? I assume you mean a converted cargo trailer? I have seen several such windows in CTCs. My “escape” of choice is an unlocked ramp on the outeide with inside barrel bolts… security plus throw the bolts and get out.

    Oh I’ve seen many emergency windows in campers and CTCs. What I meant was I had never seen the window by itself, not installed. I wasn’t sure how the thickness was measured and how the trim ring worked to sandwich the wall.
