Very Useful info..TY I'm about to strip a 36' 2002 Forest River American Eagle Has water damage beyond repair. Going to use Windows and various parts to convert an Enclosed 1973 mint condition Featherlite 24' car hauler Into Camper. I DO NOT wanna F it up! Actually very nervous of mods... as it is rare find. But , Gonna Do It.. Again Thanks for sharing your experience. Alan

Thanks for watching and it sounds like you have an awesome project about to happen!! Be sure you join several cargo trailer conversion groups. You will find tons of info there. Good luck, you’ll do fine, just take your time and measure four times before you cut.
Great job and they look nice but I want to know more about the background music you were playing! I LOVE blues and always looking for some good slide guitar tracks can ya help a fellow blues lover out here?? Lol

You got it Alan! That is Chris Shards. I found his music on Epidemic Sounds, where I download my music for videos. Here's a link for his spotify channel. open.spotify.com/artist/1drrz7s5fhvO1dyvONKbFo
I see you cut out the opening before stripping the plywood off. Did having the wood on make cutting easier, less vibration etc?
@BuildYourOwnAdventure

Yes. This was our last window install and I wish I would have cut all of them like this. Cutting from the inside with the wood on was much easier and really cut down on the vibration.
great tips, strong work, terrifying it is :) ... getting ready to cut my trailer walls too

Lol! That’s a good approach but don’t get carried away. You wouldn’t want those windows installed in the wrong place, upside down and on an angle.

I need to weld window tube supports on my cargo trailer also. What keeps the heat from ruining the red paint? Are you only tack welding on the inside side of the tubing?
@BuildYourOwnAdventure

I was thinking the same on my first window install but I didn’t see any discoloration from the welding. I just tried to spot weld it and move to another area while it cooled. First window I tried the inside side of the tubing and after I saw no issues I went back and added a few more spot welds in the angles to hold it. I’m still not really sure how it didn’t discolor the aluminum but I installed all three with no issues.

look for a product by kimball midwest called "therma-shield heat protection gel" # 80-1159 i use it when welding/torching to protect wire harnesses, paint, near fuel lines, and anything else that requires heat dissipation....
Came out great, what size windows did you install along the main cargo area? (Not the goose)

@@BuildYourOwnAdventure great size!
is it absolutely nec to weld around the window frame? Ive never done welding before but it looks some what simple once you have the right tools?
@BuildYourOwnAdventure

It’s not necessary at all. I’ve seen many builds use lumber supports held in by brackets. Welding is awesome but takes lots of practice.

I plan to use steel tubing with angle brackets.
Youve never seen an emergency escape window in an RV? I assume you mean a converted cargo trailer? I have seen several such windows in CTCs. My “escape” of choice is an unlocked ramp on the outeide with inside barrel bolts… security plus throw the bolts and get out.
@BuildYourOwnAdventure

Oh I’ve seen many emergency windows in campers and CTCs. What I meant was I had never seen the window by itself, not installed. I wasn’t sure how the thickness was measured and how the trim ring worked to sandwich the wall.
Did you have to cut through wall studs ?
@BuildYourOwnAdventure

Yes I did. I welded a new frame and supports for the windows.

Where do you think is the best place to bring a cargo trailer for a window installation?
@BuildYourOwnAdventure
2 жыл бұрын
I would try a welding and fabrication shop. If not there maybe an RV or cargo trailer service center.

@@BuildYourOwnAdventure thanks! I just don’t have the tools to do this type of work and never did this before. I’d rather leave this to the professionals. I don’t want to ruin my new trailer.
