Don’t Buy This Wayne Dalton Door Ever

For a picnic plastic forks work fine but when it comes to your house metal forks are better for long term. Pay me now or pay me later lol.
Good luck people my you have a wonderful day or night.

Through bolts are the way to go and we always get to that easy set torsion and if they’re broken always just convert to standard torsion but I can’t tell you how many wd doors I’ve through bolted lol

I would never buy a WD door. I have installed thousands. They are junk. I prefer CHI. solid build door

I’ve put up a few of those and they do seem solid. I wouldn’t mind doing more if I had a good dealer nearby. Fortunately/unfortunately I took over a business that dealt with WD and the dealer is close so I use what I can get, which is half the battle these days.

Another thing could possibly be going on is some door companies used a open cell foam in their door panels and over time the door panels soak up water causing them to be heavier which also cause the operator to struggle and cause strain on the hinges. If this is the case you're best to buy a new door.

Shouldn’t be the case with this door but there could be other damage we don’t know about that is stressing the hinge.

Looked like a 9605 door. 2-sided steel with urethane foam insulation in between. There are 2 springs in that Torquemaster tube. Very hard to visually observe when you have a broken spring until your operator has issues or you break a panel, or both. Actually I like to do the torsion conversions because you can see the spring and the parts aren’t proprietary to WD. Costs more the first time but cheaper down the road. Just did a torsion conversion conversion today on a WD9605 16x8 where the opener caved the top panel. Also switched to a jack shaft opener to eliminate the push/pull on the top panel.

It’s a $35 upcharge for me to spec regular torsion springs over Torquemaster on a new WD door, which I do most of the time. Not as clean of a look but well worth it for many other reasons.

must have better profit margin on the jackshaft operators....a properly sprung and tensioned door dont need the higher cost operator.

converted to a torsion spring and shaft system. Hinges the ones that are loose. I would drill through the door and through bold it that would last the longest not a fan of Wayne Dalton. You are limited on how you can fix. Good luck, Tony with Tony’s garage door service LLC

Might be able to replace the style on that panel where the hinge is loose instead of drilling through.

sorry been in this business 40+ yrs. and this is the typical residential sales pitch....yes i do agree Wayne Dalton residential doors suck, but its the price range some are stuck with. no need to bash them just to try and make your product sound better. I wouldn't come on your video and tell people that if i6ts a tough door they want they should buy Overhead Door Corp. Thermocore doors. Walmart used them for 18 years as their dock doors and buggy doors, they went to a Raynor recently but are already looking back at the Thermocore its tough and has a super high $R-factor. I retired from this business I got no reason to lie or promote products that dont make the cut. have a nice day

WD are a bad door there kinda a pain to fix and most of the time they should just be replaced. I think Clopay is the next level up, not a fan, most of them have cheap track, hinges, rollers, special tongue, and groove design. We are a CHI dealer and there a great door, I would highly recommend them, Safeway and Amarr/Delden, Doorlink are fine. CHI I think just have the best quality, look good, made well, but they are more expensive normally, all are door come will heavier hinges, nylon coated rollers, a strut! Our track is normally riveted for faster install.

I would say they are one step up. Just try and pay attention to the hardware. Rollers, hinges, torsion spring not extension springs. Good luck 🍀

When showing customer how bad this system torque master is i like to shove a broken piece of the small ass sping in through the hole of the torsion spring where the tube goes😂. To visually show the difference and lifespan potential of a hogher cycle spring🎉

Those Wayne Daltons are crap. The commercial sections seem to be better like the TM5155 for example but the resi paperback ones are junk.

The worst thing about those cheap azz Wayne Dalton doors is there is no backing plate or strip to fasten the hinges to. The end hinges only attach to the cheap end caps and the center hinges attach to nothing but the cheap gauge skin steel with their proprietary screws. Worst door design ever. Cheap! cheap! cheap!
