You're right, the cable for the X-T3 compatible dummy battery features a voltage regulator, but the cables for the Canon, X-T5, and Panasonic compatible dummy batteries DO NOT. Do you know whether there's a voltage regulator inside the dummy battery for those models?

Power Bank Method is much safer and it works well, and no wires to be plugged into the camera..

Insightful video, Sir. I'm planning to buy a similar dummy battery like yours for my Canon EOS 600D. But instead of using a powerbank or adapter, I'm planning to plug it directly on my PC's USB ports in the back like a webcam. What is your advice about this idea? Is it safe or risky? The voltage written on the battery is it's "nominal voltage". Nominal voltage is specified, not measured. It's a value, specified by the maker, that sits in the range between fully charged and discharge cutoff.

Helpful, thanks for sharing! I'm doing research before buying a dummy battery for my a7iii and I've seen a smattering of reviews on every product I find that it damaged someone's camera. These products include the whole kit with the power block and adaptor. I wish I knew what they did (if anything) to have a failure. Your testing process is at least a good start to verify before using anything you buy.

Do you have one you recommend for the A7iii ?

I have dummy battery for my canon r8. My power bank is samsung 25 W, and output is 5 V, 3A. And I can not use it for shooting. I can power on my cam with it but when trying to shoot it says "charge your battery"...?? Any solution to this? Thx

Can usb battery packs be linked via a USB cable for longer running time, or does the voltage increase like when you set up car batteries in a particular way?

No it wouldn't work that way, you could switch to another battery pack when the first one runs out, other than that you really can't link them.

it depends on what the voltage the gh5 takes if it only suppose to take no more then 8.5 volts then yes.. but you have to test the battery of the GH5 first then you will know what the battery puts out.

Yes a dummy battery would be safe so long as its made for that specific camera, now as far as using the Anker Power on the a6000 i'm not 100% sure on that, if it has a USBC connection then it probably is able to work with the Anker Power core. Most SONY dummy batteries have no current or voltage regulation or diode at all. I tried on SONY HX99v and ZV-1 and atleast they didn't die. Batteries for them are the NP-BX1 that outputs 3,6V. Hlwever when I measured the Dummy batteries, they were 5V. Same Voltage from dummy from USB standard. I'm gueeskng It is ok because these cameras charge through USB and maybe the Voltage regulator in the camera can handle 3-5,5Volts depending IF It is run on USB port power or battery, meaning the step down/up circuit is placed after the USB mains/Battery leads on the DC board inside the camera..

Yeah i don't use a Dummy battery for the Sony, i do how ever use the Anker powercore Power delivery pack, with that you can get 9 to 10 hours of battery life doing video with that on a Sony Camera, like the FX30

The following question seems to have slipped through the cracks so I'll ask again. I own an X-T5. I bought a dummy battery from GyroVu advertised to be compatible with the X-T4 and X-T5. Bottom line: It doesn’t work. The camera powers on but freezes when I try to shoot a photo. I can’t figure out how to use my voltage meter to test the dummy battery because the test leads on my voltage meter don’t fit into the tiny slits in the Fujifilm NP-W235 Li battery. Any suggestions for testing the power output? Can you recommend a dummy battery that will work with my X-T5? Thanks!

Ok first off the X-T4 and X-T5 are 2 different camera's and in fact when they came out with the X-T5 they used a different battery so a dummy battery would not work with and X-T5 2 different battery's , and X-T4 Battery wouldn't even fit in a X-T5 camera.. The X-T4 uses a (NP-W126S Battery) The XT-5 uses a (NP-W235 Battery) So the Dummy battery for an X-T3 or X-T4 would not work with an X-T5 if you want a dummy battery for the X-T5 Get one for that camera that is my suggestion..

Probably the Main board... You should always make sure you know what your hooking up to your camera for power this video explains that..

Thanks for the video but some things are a bit unclear to me so if you can help me out I would appreciate it: I would like to buy Nikon Z30 and Nikon has not released any official dummy battery. So instead of buying any 3rd party dummy battery could I use power bank plugged into the socket and than connecting it to the camera via USB? Would that give me infinite power? Or could I at least stream in 4k 12+ hours? Thanks.

The camera must have a Type-C port, and both the camera and the power bank support the Power Delivery "PD" , not Micro USB, Micro USB doesn't support "PD"

I own a Fujifilm X-T3, like you. It appears that you are using an AC converter made by GyroVu, right? But the cable for the dummy battery doesn’t look like the ones from GyroVu - their cables don’t feature a voltage regulator, just a straight cable. I just checked a fully charged non original battery (quite used) says 7.99v. It's like the battery u have in the video. Perhaps slightly different for the x-t2

It worked. As the link I posted, the camera regulated it to its needed voltage.

I just got 2 dummy batteries (one for each camera) with power supply from a brand called Andoer. I tried it last night and both worked. But I'm still hesitant that it may short the camera eventually after long periods of uses. Is there any way of knowing that? Or will the camera be safe if the dummy battery or power supply gets damaged?

I still haven't used them for my shoot though. Still hesitant (but setting it up to plug in to extension cords is also a pain).

if the dummy battery is putting out the same voltage as your battery would it will be fine it shouln't short out the camera..

question please help, what happens if u accidentally use a 5V power bank to your 8V NP-FZ100 dummy battery connected to your Sony A74 camera, would it have the chance to fry the camera or not? thank uu

If you use a Power Bank That Doesn't produce enough voltage then yes you could fry your camera.. Have not enough voltage to any circuit board is just as bad as having too much. that is why brown outs and voltage brown outs can damage computers, same with a camera.. Before you ever hook up any dummy battery to your camera make sure the voltage that is going to the dummy battery is the same as what your real battery would put out, make sure the voltage is not too low or too high, if your camera is suppose to be supplied 8V then make sure that is what the dummy battery is giving to the camera, it can be 8.2V or 7.9 that is ok, your real battery drops slight voltage as the batter is being used and wearing out, But a camera that is suppose to be supplied 8V should never be getting 5V that is not good.

@@Obscurainc Well there is no way to check that, if your camera is working fine then you are probably alright.. the signs of a damaged camera would be if you start seeing strange things happen such as the camera shutting down for no reason or the screen flickering or glitching.. Or functions not working like they should.. Chances are if the camera turns on and records video fine then your probably ok.. I wouldn't worry about it.. just make sure you use a volt meter before you use anything to power your camera.. Especially a Dummy Battery.. First off what camera do you have, what make and model? once you tell me that i can tell you what you can use to power your dummy battery..

@@Obscurainc Ok so that battery for that camera should be givingan Output Voltage 7.2 VDC So, that means 5v would not be enough voltage, make sure your Dummy Battery gives off around 7.2 Volts

First of all that AC unit , is USB and it sends 5V , not 8,4V ... then it goes it to that little box, in that box is a Boost converter that boosts that to 8,4V ... looks like you dont know that , the problem will arise if you give it less then 5V , everything below 4V will get that Boost converter in to crazy mode , and it can output more then 8,4V , because chips inside can go to 40V , and are known to go crazy if not supplied with above 4V , why , becase its electronics requires 3.5V to run it , if you dont give it that , then it doesnt work as planed , that is why . .. so just make sure your USB is 5V , and that the output after the converter is above 8V , below 9V .

Actually it's not a boost converter it's a Voltage regulator, because i have tested that AC to USB Adapter With out that chord just a strait chord with out the plastic regulator inbetween, and it out put 8.7 Volts, tested this in many ways and that never made it go into crazy mode and never out putted 40 Volts, first off that AC to USB you plug in the wall doesn't even out put 40 volts only 8.7 to 9 volts max.. Then i connected the Dummy Battery chord that has the regulator and plugged A AC to USB adapter that is used on a mac book which puts out 20 Volts, and the Dummy Battery End that goes in the Camera still only got 8.4 Volts, so that is a Voltage regulator Not a Boost Converter..

@@dedskin1 No, the amount of volts depends on the source where the Chord is plugged into, you could plug that chord into an Apple laptop DC power Supply and that would output 20 Volts, then the voltage that would reach the Camera would be only 8 Volts, because of the Voltage Regulator. it's not a Boost converter..
